For example:
A silly newbie tier rusher tries to queue for T5 PvP with their Silent Fox! So skilled.
They move to play PvP, eager to unknowingly screw over their team for many games in a row, but what’s this?!
A simple, easy to understand prompt explains that there will be no teamscrewing today!
My suggestion is this: Add a simple, easy to understand error message prompt when players attempt to queue outside their tier, or when they queue with ships that are too far distant in their ranks to each other.
With the new ranking change, the prompt would change to reflect that the player has ships outside the +/- bounds of their highest-ranked ship. (So if they had a rank 9 equipped, and the +/- bound is 1 [meaning they can face ranks 8-10], then they receive a prompt if they attempt to queue with a rank 7 in their lineup.
But wait! There’s a problem. This guy really, really wants to screw his team. He wants to be a one-ship wonder in T4/T5 capture the beacons and screw his team right from the start! So he loads up a single T4 ship and heads off into queue, when suddenly!
If “Capture the Beacons” is a game mode the player is eligible to queue for, that player will receive another easy to understand error message prompt when they queue with an ineligible lineup - one of fewer than three ships of the tier (or now to be grouping of ranks).
Though it may frustrate some, this will DRAMATICALLY improve matchmaking as a whole. Players will not be finding themselves ‘outmatched’ in ships too low-ranked to compete. They can find out more information on tiers, and when the rank system changes, information on that.
Oh, and a failsafe for squad issues as well:
I’ll be honest. When I said I was quitting, I meant it. A hefty effort on the Developer’s part convinced me that I should stay and help, but I specifically stated that I would only do so if I felt I could create positive change.
If I can’t get any positive change, I will leave as I said I would. Here is one attempt at said change.
