Let me remind you the era when build in Aim assistance has been reduced to non existent value, when everyone actually had to aim precisely to hit anything and how it was unplayable with ping 100+ and majority of “n00bs” could not hit anything even with 50 ping.
I tested all of the weapons. Recons are now more of annoyance, but since I was the Recon as well, you can counter that pretty much, if you hide behind safe spots. However, if you’re a slow frigate out in the open, things could get nasty.
Destructor I used on my Inq S handles pretty much not so good and I was using curved reflector as well on the weapon. It does thermal damage over time, but for me, I wouldn’t recommend one on it.
An average weapon, but it does not really excel in anything, unless, if your thermal resistance is non-existent, then it’s decent.
The 3rd one is pretty much funny and reminds me of Unreal Tournament matches and plasma rifle. Fire a plasma ball projectile, then trigger the blast effect. Still, it’s good for owning fresh meat, no use against pros.
Too much conditions for perfect set up and timing must be impecable.

Why would you use curve reflectors on the destructor? They are ment to stop beacon captures, uncloak ships and get the occasional kill. Use the default ammo or, if there is one, the ammo that increases crit. Then fit pulse discharges if you plan on having an energy engi around or fit the heatsink. Then if you got CPU fit horizons or crit chances. Have anomalies in the missiles slot for beacons or the standard octopus missiles. This is build for jerry destructor guard.
phaser is awesome for harrassing, being your personal mini positron and switching to bubble mode. it isn’t the most damage you can get, but certainly helps in being very useful because of you carrying two, or three (with the ut shock rifle combo), weapon mechanics. also you are a menace for cruise fighters, you got the range and projectile speed to hit them; just not the dps to easily kill them
the bubbles could trigger slightly faster, and there could be some indication in the weapon cross for the shots.
destructor really doesn’t live by its name; the vorlon-beam doesn’t compare overly in dps to other weapons, and this is good, because the beam cannon otherwise would be useless. however it’s damage aura makes it again useful, for capping purposes or better, for decloaking enemies, or the occasional kill of someone who escaped behind an obstacle with almost no hp. in a team, the guard becomes again stronger in its usefulness, so it is usable in pvp aswell, especially against hit&run cloak attacks, or rescuing a bacon from being captured by a ceptor hidden behind it, which in real gameplay is a very common situation for a defending guard.
could get bonus damage against stationary objects (turrets, force fields), for its namesake.
scatter is where it belongs, it is very situational, does not make other weapons useless, but can help to land some damage on otherwise hard to hit opponents. it’s mechanic makes it into two different weapons, a short range em shrapnel or a medium range guided snipe weapon.
could have bonus damage against drones
i like em. new weapons shouldn’t be “uber”. they should complement other weapons.
The phaser is definitely a great weapon. I’ve even found that not detonating the charges and letting them pass through the target does considerably more damage. I’ve gotten upwards of 12k crits on the hull of a ship. Granted, the slow charges are hard to aim, since the reticle is positioned for the fast charges, but shooting them at a beacon has proven useful.
i see the combo much more as “switch damage type” - also the explosion seems to have slightly bigger range, so the combo is really not the usual attack you go for. however, i would be interested, how much a crit-combo does i know crit bubbles can go high up.

It can definitely work as a combo, but I’ve found that (especially with high ping), that actually hitting the bubbles to detonate them. I’ve also noticed that the explosions don’t do as much as the bubbles themselves, although if you can time it right, you could hit the bubble after it hits the ship.
So… the new guard weapon is still broken in beacon games, and a single guard firing at the beacon can just nullify any capture attempts.
Nice to know.
And that is supposed to be good because??? do you want to drop recons from the game since they CAN’T xxxx do their job now if it is just a guard firing at the beacon from 7 km away?

Good job.
Guard was one of the underpowered ship roles in the game. Now that they got a buff to their purpose you want to nerf it? wth… Recon is still good. stop complaining.
