Star Conflict OBT v.0.9.7 Discussion

Sorry, Ales, but I need to quote DOOM again!

Modern FPS with no [noticable] aim assist are all Ace friendly games. Even the “hardcore” ones. All you need to do is click your mouse on the right part of the screen at the right time. It’s a QTE pretending to be a serious shooter.

DOOM, the God of FPS, does not require amazing accuracy. What it requires is supreme skill.

You must manage your health, locating medipacks and stimpacks and health pots. You must decide which to use and when. You must manage armour, factoring in the % damage absorbed by the two types. You must manage four ammo types across 6+ weapons, each with distinct strengths and weaknesses. You must learn how to counter each foe, knowing its strengths and weaknesses. You must learn to explore, to navigate hazardous jump puzzles, ambush sites, traps and secret areas. You must plan not only for this level, but what you might need to stockpile for the next, or the one after.

In short, DOOM can be conquered by someone with low aiming skills, so long as their skill in other aspects is high. That makes it a vastly superior game to any linear shooting gallery with infinite health, ammo, 1 gun that comes in 300 skins and “headshots win vs everything” enemy design.

I see Star Conflict the same way. Map awareness, teamwork and solid module choice should trump twitch-play skill every time, and having lots of aim-assist encourages that. You can’t outshoot the “n00b” because you are not supposed to. You are supposed to OUTPLAY them!

What was the update for? I noticed i had to agree with the ToS/EULA again and that the last update was released today.

So what changed?

There are 3 ut… original one (1999),UT 2004 (erm … names says it) and UT3 (2008). Anyway there ppl still playing the original… it is a very skilled and serious game… course graphic is vintage :stuck_out_tongue:

Played both. UT gave me headaches and I honestly don’t remember much of quake - it’s been too long.

DOOM I could play all day and all night (and have done so). As a game it is infinitely more approachable than CoD because failure is a result of a clear mistake. DOOM kills you because you were unprepared, you used the wrong weapon, the wrong approach, were too reckless or too cowardly. If all else was right, then “you suck at aiming” is a factor, but the game does a lot to make sure that in and of itself isn’t the cause of death. It’s always bad (not “average”, but BAD) aim plus another factor. It is tough but fair, and there is rarely only one right answer. Compare to the modern FPS…

You can’t be unprepared - health recharges, there is no armour mechanic and ammo is infinite.

You can’t use the wrong weapon - there’s essentially only one gun.

You can’t take the wrong approach because the game is on rails.

You can’t be too cautious because the game rewards camping (see health above).

So… You fail in a modern FPS because you rushed, or were a bad shot. Since rushing is so easily fixed, the only source of difficulty they have left is demanding perfect aim from the player. Once you have that the game has no challenge.

Too many neckbeards on this forum want Star Conflict to be CoD. They want pixel-perfect aim to be the ONLY factor in victory. I personally like the fact that I can utterly destroy enemies just through better choice of modules. I have caused more deaths through the use of mines, spy drones and remodulators than I ever would relying purely on missiles and shrapnel cannons. I am an average shot at best, yet I have never felt Star Conflict excluded me fron endgame content because of that… Until they took away aim assists.

Dude both Ut and Quake series are as u described. Lot of weapons u have to collect around thhhe map, munitions, medikits around the map, armors around the map… exetera exetera. Basically this is a description of an FPS Arena.

And in UT or Quake too aim isn’0t the only factor you have to considering: timing respawn, positioning, knowdledge of the map, prediction, right usage oif area weapons …

Paradoxically you could be aim god and suck hard in those game versus people with “not so good” aim.

BUT if it happens is becouse they overplayed you someway: better strategy, better timing… will never be becouse that guy with poor aim kept Headshoting at you becouse the game itself corrects his poor aim making him an Elite sniper.

This is the ridicolous part of starconflict: nobody here is saying (not me at least) if you are not good as hell in aiming you shouldn’t be able to play or to be competitive… but in the name of the lord you should be becouse of different aspects.

If u have no aim u haven’t to use sniper weapons. period.

The game hasn’t to compensate ur lack of a trait… rather it should offerts you different ways to be good player.

SC is just downloading new files…

What´s the hotfix about?

The reticle looks different.  It’s an improvement over yesterday.

the reticle is still transparent, and almost invisible in maps with red backgrounds

It’s odd, the tutorial reticle is different than the PvP reticle.

My Crus S with mortars reticle is horrible.  Prometheus with assault rails is good.  Kris AE’s is horrible and the white bars more with weapon overheating.  Anaconda with heavy blaster is decent and doesn’t change with overheating.

Weird mechanics.

Just wanted to say, THANK YOU.

The aiming seems to be MUCH better now. I have nothing negative to say about this patch. Keep up the good work.

Offcourse it seems… game is aiming for u…

Just wanted to say, THANK YOU.

Still invisible, though.

I would love to see a single shooter that has no elevations and would not require you to move your mouse on Y axis

nope… it’s just that they are more predictable, since most motion in those games is lateral…

Offcourse it seems… game is aiming for u…

inb4.

so try some UT3 engine, with buggy lag prediction and hitscan weapons. ← aim assist, but buggy.

or try some cod/mw, same thing… plus crappy peer-2-peer hosts.

or BF series, which stretch hitboxes so players are easier to hit… you don’t even have to aim directly at them bcs their hitbox is larger than the player when they run…

sounds like fun, right?

It’s not like there aren’t enought option to play this game if you haven’t a good aim: you can use frigates with tactical propouses, same for interceptors, you can fly a singularity frigate killers fighters… tou can fly jerico long range…

You can actually be a good pilot withouth a good aim… what you shouldn’t be able to be withouth a good aim is a bloody sniper becouse people, be serious, this is just ridicolous.

I could eventually tollerate a sort of aim assit (on the records: i wrote tollerate, not approve) for dog fights and close range… i mean in those cases where a guy has to fight to survive …

But you can’t be a sniper withouth high aim skill.

It’s like pretend to be a Nascar Pilot withouth being able to drive a car…

it’s just a completly idiot claim none serious game should even consider to satisfy.

The problem Ales are the dimensions of this game, while in a FPS shooter you have a dude moving at max 700m distance and moving at an outstanding speed of 20 Km/h it is easyer to shoot and kill, since snipers in fps tend to be instant hit. Now here, we have projectile speed, distances that go beyond 10Km, and targets moving at 2520 km/h. So it becomes MUCH more complicated to land a hit.

It doesn’t matter what class you are playing; if you aim where the game TELLS YOU TO AIM and fire, you should hit. If the target performs evasive action between you firing and the shot reaching them then fine, that’s a fair miss, but if the shot is going wide because your PC and the other guy’s PC can’t agree where he is then that is not fair and should be corrected for.

Also, let’s face it… this is meant to be somewhere in the 40th century, not World War II; the idea that we should have to aim manually at all is farcical. It is not that unreasonable to expect there to be some degree of pilot assistance in the use of weapons.

Well not exaclty couse distance here are bigger on the paper but in real it’s not so different. Anyway… let say you are right: but Jesus… inrease projectiles speed, remove spread, do anything but a legal aimbot.

Anyway we will come back on auto aim again later… now just let me say this: how hard could to make a visible crosshair ? And this is a thing that alost EVERYONE is asking from monthhs. So?

Actually looks like it becomes less visible patch after patch.

I actually can’t aim! Seriously. I can withouth aim assist … can’t now… just becouse my bloody crosshair is invisible most of the time.

[As luckyo said… u should know where it is… and infact i know … i mean i never thing it is on bottom left when it is actually on top right… but considerinng it moves itself… u have to move it… for pilot your ship… so well when i have to aim i have to adjust its position by some millimeters or centimeters… and if i can’t see it…]

; if you aim where the game TELLS YOU TO AIM and fire, y

Agree. But this is not auto aim works. It is more like: if u aim a little bit wrong …well who cares… Anyway i ll be back on auto aim tomorrow. Now id like to know why i must be unable to see my fuking crosshair.

[started skipping pages again so sorry if this is repetition]
[jk there’s enough repetition in here to never matter]
Playing devil’s advocate over here, what if they simply doubled red and black’s cost because they were tired of seeing it in space and/or they were the colors that made it hardest to see them in space? If I were a developer or coder or [something] who thought like that, I would have also doubled the price on those colors in the hopes that people WOULDN’T buy them anymore, because just removal of those colors would alienate people more. Honestly, a doubling of the most popular colors at the current prices will not raise funding because you [most likely with the health of the game] have more people dropping off the color bandwagon than you do still willing to pay the premium. That is, you lose over 50% of the customers for those colors by doubling the price, meaning loss of money. The only reason I could think of for the move is to stop people from buying those colors for some other reason than profit.

Also, the more hopeful theory, this is a price markup that will lead to sweeping price lowering for all the colors [keeping red and black still more expensive, but in this case, increasing their price now so that they aren’t super-cheap when they initiate the full discount over all colors.]

Semi-related question: Last I checked, the no expiry stickers were different priced between tiers. Are non-expiry stickers now tier locked [that is, you can only apply them to that tier] or is it just an oversight?

I noticed I’m losing track of the reticle too, much more than before in fact.

A more visible color (green?) would be appreciated in the next patch.

But who the hell is caring about proice of bloody colours while the game is broken as hell???

It’s like people plòaying TF2,sucking, and caring only about what will be the new 100euros hat will be released.

Please … we are trying to give suggestions to make a good game… leave “BARBIE Fashions” alone … at least for now.
