Star Conflict OBT v.0.9.5 Discussion

They quietly changed the Fed R5 implant from a boost to pitch (up/down) rotation rate to a strafe speed boost.

This is a HORRIBLE change.  That implant was one of the few things that made turning fights interesting because you had to be constantly be rolling to orient yourself for maximum turn speed.  Now that significant skill element is completely gone because ships turn equally fast on all axis.

Seriously, may as well take rolling out of the game now.  I’ve put up with a lot of crap–patches always seem to catch me right after I’ve finished outfitting a bunch of ships with new gear–but this seriously impacts my enjoyment of the game and for the first time I’m questioning why I invested any cash in it.  This is a SERIOUS change to flight dynamics that dumbs it down horrifically.

I hadn’t noticed the change.  Maybe I’ll switch from Empire R5 to Fed R5.  That is a significant change indeed.

Yep, I kept missing missile shots because my muscles memory said that I should have rotated in time given my orientation, but my ship was only half-way round…I started looking for a cause and lo and behold found a stealth change in the implant that literally made the game for me…

I’ve already changed over to the empire implant and rebound the extra keys on my mouse to somehting more useful than roll :-\

i dont get it, Empire implant was always Rotation speed, while Federation was strafe boost, what did they change?

Nope.  Fed USED to be 75% bonus to rotation on the pitch axis.

Empire is a smaller (I recall 25%, but it reads 30 now) flat boost to all rotation: Left, right, up, down.

Fed WAS a significant (75%) boost to pitch only: up, down.

Fed is now a strafe speed boost.

Edit: Here’s a post from March explicitly noting it’s old bonus: [http://forum.star-conflict.com/index.php?/topic/18093-federation-skill-5-alpha-inhibitor-cheetah/](< base_url >/index.php?/topic/18093-federation-skill-5-alpha-inhibitor-cheetah/)

They did change a description god know when, but mechanics are the same

Federation implant 75% Strafe speed means that your ship get horizontal strafe speed boost and up and down “strafe”  those speeds are exactly the same adn affected by “strafe” modifiers/engine modules

Federation was never a “rotation”,

empire as i recall correctly was always 30%

Not that!!!

Was referring to the hidden ones like the speed bonus for Katana S… They’re in a thread around here somewhere. Posted by Error.

There are no hidden ones. The ship stats are as displayed.

Error’s thread is from June, I’ll assume the full ship info popup didn’t exist back then, don’t remember.

True that they reflect in the ship’s stats, but i want to know which stat gets boosted. I know it’s speed for katana s so i’m looking at speed. Where am i supposed to look at the Prometheis? I have a vague impression it’s extra energy regen, but no clue whatsoever.

Those hidden stats are still present, despite the changes.

Federation implant was 75% turn up and down. Imp was and is 30% turn in all directions. I used to fly with it solo on inty a lot before I decided that disorientation that constant rotation caused did more harm then implant did good.

As far as I remember, the implant tooltip was changed, yes, but a while ago.

But as far as I remember watching my ship values and discussing ship stats with others who had different faction sets around there, there always was an implant which gave strafe speed in the t2 federation line.

I am confused myself.

There ARE hidden stats, like the K-S speed bonus, the Ira Deus strafe speed bonus and so forth. Those are the only two I can think of, atm.

How can they be hidden stats when those stats are plainly displayed?

It means they’re not clearly shown that “this ship has these bonuses on top of standard base stats”.

It’s true that you can in fact see them in the stat sheet, but it would take a damn good memory and math head to be able to calculate that certain ship has more energy in capacitor or more turning rate then it should have based on it’s slot in ship tree.

and here they are:

The very few times I care I just mouse over two ships of the same class and the higher stats, if any, are readily apparent then. /shrug

Thx borg.

How can they be hidden stats when those stats are plainly displayed?

Because they’re not listed as a ship bonus on the ship info screen.
