Star Conflict OBT v.0.9.18 Discussion

Using a controller is bullshit, and this is why:

We do, however, want to see if there is a possibility to add gamepad support in the future, on condition that it won’t be a game-changing aspect. Players with keyboard+mouse should not be at disadvantage to players with gamepads. And vice versa.

People with keyboards shouldn’t be at a disadvantage: solvable.

Making it through both ways: no way. You either dumb the controls (and so the game) down, or make the controller uselessly complex.

aiming with gamepad or joistick with anyone else is using mouse is simply pain…

but cockpit view could be great but it shpuld be the only avaible view for all And u will et something very immersive like this:

Wish clan wars with dreadnoughhts will look like that lol

Well. I really think that future spaceships wouldn’t have joysticks, but more Freelancer style controls. With cameras pointing out of the ship even a third person view is perfectly reasonable as computers can generate the image, you just have to know the blind spots (for example the top of your ship is probably rendered, not actual footage). Probably you just click to stuff when not aiming/maneuvering, and switch to the other control when aiming the ship.

The perfect starship if you don’t need to fly in atmosphere is a spheric or elipsoid with one boost in one of the axis and several thrusters around the sphere for maneuverability. And the pilot should be in the inside without any window with a VR helmet recibing sensor input though external cameras. orbiter drones can be deployed once achieved standard orbit, but any speed change will make them loose.

You totally have to share your “hacked control system”

Wrong usage of hacked, JP. I said I hacked [the controls] apart. As in “hacked to pieces”, or “cut up”. I don’t think I use a single default keybind; everything’s on the NUM pad, or the keys right next to it.

Even then it took me ages to get used to it…

Ah, makes sense now. why cant we have a nice compromise and use a game pad and a multiple button mouse? Thats what I use and my hands NEVER leave the keys.

Ahahaha, I just played CR, I wasn’t chosen as captain under the new old system, but apparently the guy who was did chose to DC after the start of the battle because he did not want to be it. So it switched to me then without me noticing. I admit to wondering a little bit why the enemy were focussing me so hard throughout the battle but that’s not entirely unusual either. I only noticed that I was the captain when I saw the captain victorious medal pop up.

Funny stuff, but please make the notification bigger (if there is one at all)? With all the efficiency spam on the screen that has still not been reverted to a usable system I kinda look past all light blue text. WE NEED A BIG FAT RED AND BLINKING NOTIFICATION WHEN YOU GET CHOSEN AS CAPTAIN MID BATTLE

Thank you for your attention.

PS: I’d still prefer an opt-in/-out system for captaincy

Maybe I’ll buy myself one of those gamer mice. I mean, I bought a headset specifically because my Corp complained about my crappy old setup, so I’m clearly willing to throw money at peripherals.

I’m seriously interested to know, as the last update made only rank 11 and above into Sector Conquest, whether that means wings can contain any level ships so all a corporations members can now do Sector Conquest?

And the changes for the Custom PvP… maybe they should have just banned the cheaters instead of hurting the honest players…!!

Getting rid of rewards in custom battle really is kinda pointless… For starters, why don’t you guys fix the matchmaker for it? I see no possible way to cheat manually, so it must be on your end. In custom battle, the only thing I should see disabled is the self destruct option. That being said, that wouldn’t improve anything on the strategic side of battle. (Sometimes you need to get out of your frigate, and exchange it for an interceptor.) Bottom line, this part of the patch is a good deal useless. Especially for those of us that used it (perfectly legally) to synergize our T4 ships. Also, it was an awesome way to get Into the game (with rewards) when the queue had basically no games to give. I beseech thee, give it back. Improve the matchmaker for it, and give it back.

There is no match-maker, that’s why it’s a “custom” battle. and easy to cheat in and was done regularly

People were creating regulated custom games and then took turns in farming kills (i.e. synergy, loot, credits) with no efforts

On a patch notes:

  • Big thanks for squad indications in matches

On Wings

A) at this stage of the game wings should be 6-8 players at most, due to the way you are separating wings from randoms/squads, there will be no wings of 6-8 players due to very high chance of playing vs 10-12 players, so if you cant get 10-12 in the same time - there will be no wings, and you can count corporations that can provide 10-12 sized wings on fingers of one hand.

B) Separating wings in different queue means that you are separating Good players from Random Men in different queues, meaning that zerg corporation are going to have much-much easier life in sector conquest, in a sense simply mimicking PvP skirmishes, but with influence as rewards, while in the same time Skilled corporations that decide to tough it up and fly in wings will have much-much harder times every single battle, and influence gains will be incomparably lower than simple zerg corp in regular SecCon queue, I personally believe that Sec Con should reward toughests and skilled players/corporations more than simple mindless beacon rushers, currently design wise it is opposite.

As of now, i do not see a single reason (reward wise) for NASA to try and coordinate a wing, squads of 4 man will do the job much better (our games are rarely even 6v6, i doubt we will see any wings in opposite queue anyways)

I understand this is a 1st implementation on wings, and you want to see what will happen (beta it is) and i, partly, agree with this, but i think things like this could be thought out 1 step ahead, so we don’t have “pointless” weeks between iterations of tested features.

Edit: P.S. what could help is limiting wings to 2 sizes: 6 and 12, and don’t put 6 v 12. it will be easier to find games for 6v6 wings and possible allow a temporal mix of 6+6 from different corporations vs 12 (or allow Alliance to have 2 6 man wings combined into alliance 12 man wing)

I agree with Kostyan, wings right now are like “beyond” end game, so making a wing and going to battle will be a really though challenge, and the rewards will simple not be enough. While some corps known as the Swarm will have easier games in Sector Conquest.

Btw, question to Antibus:

Micro-locators require line-of-sight this patch. Since it wasn’t in the patch notes: Bug or feature? If feature, the description needs to be changed to reflect the new functionality.

Require line-of-sight for what? I don’t get it =/

I couldn’t play today so no idea about what you’re talking about

First google result since I’m lazy. Imagine a locator on the left and a stealthed ship on the right. You won’t locate it in the example at the bottom this patch whereas previously you would.

(and you don’t miss anything, it’s unplayably laggy, tried several times to play but no point)

I believe it isn’t in this patch, i have noticed LoS on MicroLocator at least before this patch, maybe 2 patches ago.

I only started playing recons again last patch and I didn’t notice it there whereas I instantly noticed it the first battle I played after this patch, so I had the impression it was new but I cannot guarantee it.

Be that as it may, a while ago they definitely did not require line-of-sight (I always used to place them behind a rock/structure to protect them and the worked fine like that), and the description wasn’t changed nor was there anything in the past couple of patch notes. So it’s worth a clarification as to what actually is the intended behaviour so I know whether I need to file a module or a description bug report.

I get it know, thanks Snib. And I used to do the same, like I do with Engi stations, placing them behind things so they don’t die.

I’m unsure of why they classify that as “unfair matches”

This is not unfair matches. An unfair match would be stacking your team. The item you’re referring to is helpful synergization/credits/loot, etc. albeit, illegal and should deserve a one week ban with proof, ( multiple stacks of proof). Else wise, this has nothing to do with having unfair matches ( which are impossible to have) and everything to do with trading kills for synergy.          (which, as if current, isn’t entirely a bad thing. the grind really is too much for allot of people, and it’s a good way to skip the otherwise empty and boring T4, which no one can skip, even legally, now.)

In short, this is a cash grab.

Personally, I’ll still play with custom battles for the ease of actually getting into a good, stable, game in a timely fashion.
