Well same can be said about any interceptor. Interceptors are close-range fighters and any interceptor can be dangerous up close, ECMs especially so. I was talking in the scenarios where ECMs fight you. If you are within range of the ECM’s weapons/modules, the ECM is only weak to ECMs.
The ecm is weak to covert ops. Also, an ecm can’t put out enough damage casually to take down other ships quickly.
If you have a good tanky recon, with high dps crit damage, the ecm will be dead if you have similar skill to the ecm pilot.
Currently CovOp is the easiest and most reliable (on average) tool to win a game in T5, just supplement it with anti frig ball gunship and you’re set.
insane agility, dodging next to every projectile based weapons in 1000+ range
Extremely short cool down on orion (with E13 it gets xxxx)
Ability to easily deal with tackler “disables”, more and more covops adopting 2x multipurpose modules, so 10 seconds immune to slow, and one of these multipurpose modules is Shield Booster that has short CD as Orion +E13 you almost don’t have down time with in slow immunity
Emergency barrier, the module that allows Inties to #Yolo into multiple enemies and get out alive, resets by E13. Imho Emergency barrier one of the biggest things that takes away a “skill” in flying interceptor- you make a mistake - you should die, not just “lol, nothing but a scratch”
I don’t think CovOps are extremely OP though, but they require fine tuning, currently they are on OP side of the balance.
And only without mentionning the mechanics favorizing interceptors.

to balance in small ships, star conflict has done a great job. there is nothing wrong with matching the small ships to be useful - most games failed exactly because of that missing.
as if empire fighters would not rule that tier as well, when it comes to fierce matches; and every second pub T5 match is a guard skirmish which just does not want to end. to frigate players ceptors might look frightening, but to every other class, they aren’t.

Since the latest plasma arc nerf, I’m switching to white noise in order to shut down ECM for a short time. They still jinx and run to cover on their engineer side, but at least you render them useless for a short period of time.

Currently energy drain is the ONLY effective and reliable way to counter Covop, Combination of F8, J2 and proton walls, render everything else useless, on top of that consecutive disables gets diminishing effect on top of reductions from J2/Proton wall, you survive 1st one (which isn’t that hard with half the brain) all others ECMs are waste of space on enemy team vs you, and they better fight something else… And even that has get out of jail card - E14 for 7 seconds, that has 240 seconds cooldown as well. Btw Nothing prevent CovOps form dropping arc, and have Orion+Camo+2xMP modules, and just keep murdering everything with orion, let me remind you that under orion CovOp dmg reaches 10 000 DPS (throw in rockets and you are hitting 13 000 dps), and that has 30 seconds Cooldown that gets shorter and shorter with E13

range of fighters is 500-3000, interceptors have ~500-1300 vs fighters, it takes 2 seconds to close 1000m gap or get of the line of fire.

Tackler is my favorite role, i hate flying interceptors, but if you want to deal with enemy interceptors, the most efficient way is to go interceptor yourself, unless you are in squad. All these buble tacklers, ions, gauss, drones, assault rails are laughable vs good interceptors, they can sneak in a kill or 2 during the match, but they will not prevent 10-15 kills for covop meanwhile, the only way to put good Covop on defencive is Inhibitor Beam+Gravy beam at ~3.5-4k, period, there is nothing else.

The only ships that are competitive in DMG vs CovOps in T5 are Spark and Mjolnir, where Spark is OP in its own. As long as Enemy does not fly full blown Frig ball on small map, going CovOp is the easiest most efficient way to win the game. And not every frig ball is dangerous to Covops as well, it is mostly drone swarms that your teammates do not clear.

show me the video where you, as patch 1.0.6, are shutting down good interceptors, that knows how to fly with 200+ rotation, and not some brainless bots, with any of these guns (Ions/Bubbles/Assault Rails/Gauss) i will uninstall this game and will never come back to live servers.
And not sneaking in a kill with a missile (and if it is not EM+Speed/rotation implant missile, that can be fairly easily dodged) here and there with 3+ man focus, but being a driving force on shutting down those interceptors.
