I don’t need to run from pulsar >.,> my regeneration usually negates the damage to 0.
And the range to dodge the torps while staying on the offensive is somewhere around 800. it’s also very easy to tank even if you’re hit by the torp. (so long as you’ve taken care of your shield)
What makes inties extremely hard to hit (besides speed and small size) is the fact inertia don’t apply when turning; they can make extremely sharp turns like on rail. If they had coded it right, ships should not be able to make turns sharper than what their side thrusters can handle; turn too fast and you spinnout/slide out/face the wrong way. That would be nice if we could do the Wing Commander’s afterburner slide or a Turn-around-Shoot-Backward by abusing inertia…

It would, but that’d require extreme physics coding this game isn’t prepared for. Plus, weapons are turret-mounted, unlike in, ie, the X-series, where the mounts are fixed.
I play all ship classes and I believe interceptor are OP. Their only weakness is bad ping and packet loss.
I play all ship classes and inties are not OP. This is far too great of a generalization. Interceptors seem OP because you get into certain scenarios in which inties are superior. If an inty has lots of cover near him, it is easy to break line-of-sight with a tacklers slows, or when dogfighting, intys have the advantage of speed and maneuverability, which makes them hard to hit, but if you do hit them, it does significant damage. Bad ping and packet loss are detrimental to inty pilots, but that is not the only weakness. Slowing an inty down almost insures its demise, face-torps work wonders on intys, and bubble gunships also are effective.
Point being, intys are far from OP. They are better than other ships in certain scenarios, but the same can be said for any role.
Well, If Interceptors could start Intercepting instead of Diving/Dogfighting/ectect, that would be a good start.
Guard is a game term specific to star conflict
Interceptor however is not, it designates an aircraft designed to attack and catch another.
So “Dogfighting” is one kind of intercepting. And the CO and Recon are good in that regard, and it needs time to learn to shoot another Interceptor while he is evading.
Dogfights usually are also quite rare, since it needs two experienced pilots being alone, and one ECM at a dogfight party already sends everybody home.
If a dogfight didn’t last long, it usually wasn’t one.
You have to specify, what you subjectively mean with “intercepting” to make this clear.
What you “expect” that Interceptors do.
Most top ceptors I can think of are usually not playing only Intie, anyway, and are as dangerous in any other class.
players are OP not ships
Final stand: Ceptors are not OP. Definitely not CO and Recons, they have plenty of counters, inclusive their own class. ECM might be worth a discussion, tho. In PvE, Ceptors are mostly useless, except for objectives. If they would be OP, you would use them in PvE, too.

Problem is: in a ceptor you can dodge one skilled player, or two avarage players (best ceptor pilots maybe can dodge 3 and more avarage plrs) or a whole bunch of nabs firing at you. But you can’t dodge more than one autofire/autoaim bot/drone, that’s why ceptors sucks in PVE where it’s not a matter about “beeing shoted or not”. You WILL be shooted, and they are not so tanky as a well fitted fighter or a guard/engi.
Anyway, pls stop whining about 'ceptors. Becoming more flexible in your role choise and a better MM with larger match are the solutions to inty spam.

well, exactly my point. You dodge other human’s humanly shots. That doesn’t make it OP.
Raw numbers will not be on your side. If it would be OP, other pilot’s “missing” would not count, you would be OP.
And if the bots have Tacklers and ECMs…

can’t emphasize that enough, albeit the whole sentence just sums it up perfectly.
Definitely. I disagree with this thread topic because it is far to generalized. Simply saying “Interceptors are OP” is not true. ECMs however are extremely OP compared to any other ship role, as their only weakness is another ECM, which is a huge flaw in the system. Every other role in this game as several other classes that it is strong against and several it is weak against. ECM is strong against every role, and only weak to ECM.
The only balance shift in ECMs power is ability to equip dmg ammo (supernova/curved deflector), making it having a bit “to much” dmg.
If one to generalize the whole Interceptor OP thing without looking into it in mroe detailed and specific, that be an ability of interceptors naturally overcome downsides of DMG ammo
