Please, we are getting off topic. Let your rants, suggestions, and ideas go to another appropriate thread. Thanks guys. Geez, making me do my job as a moderator. Why!?
Hi Error. Can I join your GM plan? Summer5 said he would have not much time and tell me that you need a GM who can speak Chinese and English. My id is ProfessorS. I would be happy to help.

Hi SOTG,
I would suggest sending Error a Private Message with some relevant information;
- You as a person
- Language Skills
- Relevant Experience
- Time Zone
- Available Times / Activity
This will help him a lot in getting back to you.
You should be online in game for at least 2 hours each day and able to watch the chat.
You should have decent English skills, because your main task will be to talk with other players.
You should be at least 18 years old.
You should act friendly in each situation and be resistant to provocations.
You should have a skype account.
At the moment we are focussing on recruiting GMs for this time: 12 – 17 MSK(UTC + 4)
If you can speak different languages it would be nice, but it is not required.
I find myself meet most of those requirements.
I don’t know about how my reputation is, or how others judge me though.
If there are some encouragement, maybe I’ll apply.

It’s another way to ask how you judge me, and my reputation, before I make an application.
Ain’t got time to make an application, and get turned down without knowing the reason.

Looks like you just applied.
I agree

Whoever is the head honcho I would say should set up where players can submit such proofs or complaints where nobody else can access, only the guy at the top can and therefore can review each GM. It’s great to have GMs in the game playing with us, I love the idea of being one of us. But the problem is when they start abusing these powers they have.
Hi Cr0ss,
Please note that such a system already exists:
[http://forum.star-conflict.com/index.php?/forum/223-violations-and-penalties/](< base_url >/index.php?/forum/223-violations-and-penalties/)
The game rules are there for the protection of the players, not to hinder or harass them. The manner in which GMs condone themselves is carefully monitored. Complaints are always taken seriously and looked into. Do note that false claims/reports are also taken seriously and can lead to further punishment by the Administrators.
In regards to your specific issue - please follow the stated procedure in the [Chat Amnesties](< base_url >/index.php?/topic/8918-chat-amnesties/) topic. Discussing these issues or making any accusations in public is specifically prohibited by the forum rules, which is why any such references have been removed.
Please feel free to contact me by PM if you wish to discuss this further. If your issue is more serious/wide-spread or happens to involve myself - please contact Error instead.
Your post has been hidden as parts of it violated the rules as well - please do rest assured that ‘the powers to be’ are still able to read it.
Best regards,
Evil Tactician.
I wouldn’t know who to complain about lol I don’t remember the GM’s name that had an arguement with me and next thing I know I was muted, I only posted because I started seeing more people complaining in chat about GMs. I’d hate the community shrink or get bad because of this. I like the game a lot, I wanna see more people playing and this game to go on. Also shouldn’t be such system easier for people to find, front page of the website, also not many people will associate chat/ban amnesty with reporting a problem with a GM.
The GM monitoring system reminds me of how my work monitors me. At any given rate I am late to join the discussion as this is my first time to truly be on the forums since I started playing roughly 4 days ago. I will however return to the original subject of discussing the GM recruitment. Before I get to that let me first say my views come as a volunteer and civil servant. I have been a volunteer for 12 years now. I have served my city as well for 2 years (in a paid position). With that said I have no issues bringing in people from the outside so long as there is a good system in place. The next thing I would consider is not making this a popularity contest. Do not make the requirement a good reputation based on the forums. People say what they want to on the internet and it is hard to tell who is telling the truth. It does not give an applicant a fair chance. Rather they should be judged on their abilities. Past experiences in a GM or Admin position should be strongly considered with their ability to speak another language seeing as this is an international game. Last but, not least don’t make this guild or corporation based.
People ask me why should another language be a consideration. It is because I have learned from past experience that when you learn a language you learn to communicate in a different manor. For example… I started learning Russian one year ago. Before this I use normal words that were not complicated and straight foward. When I was taught Russian I learned I had to change that philosophy because some words like “gang” is bandit in the Russian language. This was not the first time I had this issue. When I talked to other communities in Europe I had to use Latin for them to understand. That is because some of the Latin based languages still understand their old roots making translation easier. In one case I had to use Vitae instead of Vita (Life).
As for the final part of my point the reason I say previous GM or Admin positions is because they will know what to expect. They can tell when someone is “trash talking” or truly harassing another person. As I said it is hard to tell online as to what a persons intentions can be.
I would like to discuss the responsibility of a GM to “monitor” the chat for language. I think it is a great idea to monitor the chat to answer questions, support users and help out new players, but I think active moderation is not required.
What I mean by “active” moderation is where a GM watches the chat and makes their own determination and takes action of their own accord based on the discussions taking place. I believe that their role should be more “reactive” instead of “proactive” in moderating the chat. If there are complaints or reports, they can then look into the issue.
Instead what we are currently seeing is GMs attempting to resolve issues before they occur, or make use of their power to manipulate the discussion, often for good intention but it unfortunately creates frustration in the community. For example, a simple concept people fail to recognize is that disagreements and heated discussions are a normal part of life. Vulgar words may be used as expression but both parties have the freewill to continue their discussion or leave. People need to sort their differences. Cutting them off can just lead to both players unhappy with the outcome.
Some people just use more “colorful” language, even if good spirits. It’s just expressive. [The game itself even uses profanity in the pilot voices](< base_url >/index.php?/topic/20891-about-offensive-language-and-such/). I agree that in a public forum, such as this, language should be a bit more regulated - the same as it would be within a corporate email environment. Chat, on the other hand, can be compared to just casual conversation. As I mentioned in the other topic, the game itself simulates military-styled pilots, in which most military recruits swear often, and that is perfectly fine. The game is not targeted to a younger audience, which is given by the fact it has paid content in it we can assume it is targeting the working force. The game has a built in filter, and it must be removed to see offensive words. Only attempts to circumvent the filtering should be moderated.
Lastly, chat is also temporary for most players. They only talk while waiting for the next match. This is important because it means less control is required to calm down a heated discussion. Players will eventually be queued into a game, and continue playing and leave the discussion behind. Action from a GM is not needed.
Thanks for reading, I apologize for the long message but had to express the concerns I was seeing talking to fellow players in game. If needed please extract me message elsewhere (I wasn’t sure where) but please do not remove it.

Your concern and suggestion about the prominence and clarity of how to report a problem with a GM has been noted and will be forwarded to the administration, who will then decide whether or not we can make improvements to this.

Whether or not a person enjoys a ‘celebrity’ status within the community or is considered widely popular is not an important criteria. If a person is widely unpopular, that would of course be a different matter - as there often is a reason behind this.
The ability to speak another language is not a requirement but is a highly desirable trait. As you say, it provides someone with cultural knowledge and the understanding of language and cultural differences which a counterpart who only speaks English might not posses. That said, good English language skills are extremely valuable and assist with communicating with the majority of the (English speaking) player base, so this is obviously more important.
Corporations don’t come into play at all in the decision making process - which is why you find that the current team is spread quite nicely across the community.
As far as previous experience is concerned - this is obviously a highly desirable trait. Some of us do actually have an extensive (15+ years) experience in these areas, often including paid positions for large commercial titles in the past.

I fully understand and sympathise with your opinion, but please note that it’s not currently possible for players to leave or hide global chat altogether. The presence of a profanity filter is there to provide further assistance to people who don’t wish to be confronted with ‘colourful’ language, but doesn’t create an excuse for others to swear. It’s there as a first line of defence for those who wish to use it and distance themselves from such behaviour, it’s not an indication that the game was designed to allow people to swear. (If anything, it shows the opposite as even during the development process it was already considered how users can be protected against such behaviour.)
If two people have an active disagreement and feel the need to argue in a more ‘heated’ manner, they can simply do so through private messages/whispers - rather than confronting the entire chat with it and dragging many people into their argument. As long as neither player feels offended - this type of chat is not ‘actively’ moderated but only ‘after the fact’ if someone reports the other.
Most of the community would prefer a constructive, helpful and engaging global chat - ideally free of spam, vulgar language or abuse. Anyone who joins the game accepts the game rules and code of conduct and if people decide to ignore this and break the rules, they have to then accept the consequences. These rules aren’t in place to harass or annoy players, but to protect them from behaviour and language which most simply don’t find pleasant in what is ultimately their precious leisure time.
I disagree that the GM are monitored. I will probably stop playing soon.
for now I am trying to rescue this game. Replying to topic above me. But to save space I am not using the quotes.
Like my other reply on my own thread, this will most likely just get deleted.
The poster above me is one of the worst offenders.
Unfortunately My main PC with all the chat logs got stolen Friday along with my Rotel amps, or I would upload them.
Yep my luck is just really bad. So at the moment all I can do is post here because my laptop is not good for gaming.
Maybe I can help save this game by the time all my new parts arrive to play again.
Trollbaiting only gets you so far on these forums before you start getting warnings, Sum…
I will get back on topic in a second. Before I say this please keep in mind I am not for or against anyone. I am simply speaking from my experience. That said Sumguy believes that something is wrong and no one is listening Oryngton. It’s not a matter of trolling. I have been in this predicament. I do not like talking about my old job in the forums. It is something I talk about only in private. I will say that I came from a community where corruption and other major problems was rampant. When I went against said corruption my own community and other communities were against me. I was hated for trying to correct something that was in place before I joined the team. If I was not so morally upright and ignored the problem I would still have my job and not be in the state I am in now. Was it worth it? Yes. I was not about to compromise myself for an idea that I did not believe in. The lesson here is don’t be so literal and call him trollbaiting. If you want to fix the problem find a middle ground.
There is one thing I will say on my own though. I will again warn you I am merely being upfront and honest. I do not have any malicious intentions with this statement. I am just saying this. I do not know Eviltactician as I am brand new to the game. I will say however that when I did joke around in main chat a day or two ago about Eviltactician I did get a response. I said “rude? coming from the frigate camper?”. The response I got was something along the lines of it’s intriguing that I would make this kind of comment seeing as I am not in the same tier as you. That is odd because just a few hours later I was put in a match against EvilTactician and WPK. This response made people think I was lieng or joining the “anti-EvilTactician” band wagon which I found minorly offensive because I was not. I was in a match where Eviltactican did use a Styx T3 Engineering Frigate. I know he has that ship along with a Kris AE T3 interceptor. In short that was not like a black mark but, I made note of that. I am not even sure what to think now of EvilTactician.
Ok now in response to Eviltactician (and to get back on subject). The reason I made that statement is because anything and everything goes on the internet. If someone is un popular MOST of the time you can’t rely on that. The reason I say that is because I have a few haters myself. This is because of my jokes in Main Chat. They are perfectly harmless. They were not racist or targeting any one person. I am very careful about my humor in a public setting. If you ask anyone about me (from what I have seen) they will tell you I am either Neutral or an xxxx. I come back to my point that what other people say have no value to the selection (in most cases).
What I meant by having a second language is I am not asking them to be fluent. If they took a few classes they would reach the level of understanding I have when it comes to other languages. There is a test here in the United States that I had to take when it came to my Russian. It was called the Interagency Language Roundtable. It is more commonly known as the I.L.R Scale. The point I was coming to this is that even the most basic (level 1) is required by most agencies or major job postings. These postings are not even international jobs. I was thinking something similar based on this theory.
I actually remember that conversation on global, Mikula. That’s the same day he was calling everyone on global little children who need punishment.
If you recall the day, please send the logs to Error to review. It is located in Documents/ My Games/ Star Conflict/ logs / chat.
They will be indexed by date. The chat logs only hold for a week. So if possible copy them and paste them to a different folder so they don’t delete in 7 days.
You can message me and I can remote in with a well known program if you need help.
I don’t remember your in game name, but I remember the frigate camping response.
Since my Main PC was stolen the other day during my move. So now I can’t send the chat logs. I have been asked to, and I so badly would like too.
I should not have procrastinated. I got the tracking numbers today my for my new stuff. So I will be in game soon or banned for trying to fix a morally wrong problem.
I really like the game, but the politics of it.

I don’t understand what you meant to say here.
I am merely saying that my first impression of EvilTactician was changed when he made that comment in that way. I felt that ONE comment was written in a way that was not of GM quality. For him to completely deny my presence and then say this is odd because I am not in the same Tier I feel is trying to say to everyone that I am a liar. It also tells me that he said something that was not true. A simple “I do not remember you” would suffice in a case like this. Sorry if I was not clear. I was trying to be as nice as I could while relaying my concerns.
I recognize in any job the way we improve is by feedback. If I didn’t have someone telling me I was doing something wrong I wouldn’t be like I am today. I was doing the same by saying the way EvilTactician handled me was something I will remember because of the fact I did take some offense. The reason I did not take more offense is because I know it is the internet and I can’t get worked up over it. Did I clarify?
