Recruitment of active GMs (Discussion)

While our priority is to find people who are as you described, knowledge of the game is also a very important factor. GMs must respond to questions presented to them about the game, and are expected to assist players in topics ranging from mechanics to metagame.

What tier you prefer does not matter so long as the GM has a good grasp of all tiers.

Oh I don’t dispute that at all and I fully agree. I was merely talking about what tier said person might or might not prefer.

On a completely unrelated note, your name still cracks me up.

I don’t know if they need some “French” GM…

If the answer is “Yes”, I will probably apply.

Welp, I got rejected from becoming a GM.

Anyone else succeeded?

Most likely reason I got rejected: I tell them what is wrong with the game instead of kissing their collective asses \o/

I’ve not heard anything, but I suspect I’ll be rejected on the same grounds - I want this game to do well, but I won’t hesitate to call them out on things they are blatantly doing wrong.

Thus, none of you will ever become a GM.

I didn’t bother applying because I knew that would happen.

Yeah I suspected it as well, But seeing how i got a 8 week vaction or so coming up, I thought it would be good to spend it help other people…

Guess they don’t want GM’s with knowledge of the game after all

Um…I have vast knowledge of the game and don’t approve at all on a lot of stuff. But it still dont stop me from being a very active in the community and helping others in game and on the forums.

You can be critical without being provocative or offensive. I’ve never seen this be a problem - if anything, constructive criticism is highly desired.

It’s not what you put, it’s how you put it.

And don’t give me the usual “this is a game, yadi I tell it as I see it, yadi” nonsense as real life doesn’t work like that either.

True, I could. But we’ve all tried that. I did it in the beginning, that turned out marvellously as everyone’s prayers were viciously ignored.

Kind of have to echo Oryngton here; I want to support this game, but every other update makes me feel like this game is a giant bait-and-switch; a glorified scam to rob people of their money with no intent to deliver a quality product in return.

Expect 0.8.6 to provide further proof of this mindset, seeing as this one was a doozy of a middle finger salute to the community.

Welp, I got rejected from becoming a GM.

Not rejected, but there are enough GMs for the times I could be on. No problem, just keep doing what I do.

I don’t see any benefit of having purple or red text under your avatar “game master”.

Having worked in game development in the past - bear in mind that acquiring feedback, sifting through what is worthwhile and what isn’t, adding good suggestions into the development cycle (together with the existing development path/blueprint) and having them come into actual play is a lengthy and complicated process.

In addition to this - not every tweak on paper will work out quite as well in practice. Some changes will have a crappy effect and will need to be reverted or tweaked further. As we are in Beta right now, they can somewhat justify being drastic with these attempts - which can no longer be done when the game is properly live/launched officially.

I share your frustration with some changes - everyone that actively plays does. But making a blanket statement suggesting that they on purpose release xxxx updates or are only out to grab your money is inaccurate and doesn’t help make things better. Yeah, the devs are obviously interesting in making money as they have costs to cover. But at this point they want to produce a good game - so that more people play it upon launch and they thus make more money.

You can help with that by providing accurate, detailed feedback and suggestions on how to improve things for the best. Not all suggestions will be implemented as there are plenty which may sound good, but don’t work out in practice. It’s impossible for devs to reply to every single suggestion individually and explain in depth why they can’t implement them, so that is just something you have to accept.

Point is… They’re NOT listening. Otherwise, we’d have seen some useful changes.

But by the same token, we hear the same or similar comments over and over from the community and nothing changes.

There has been, and continues to be, contradictory application of terms. We are all “open beta testers”, and yet we are not treated as such. We are not made privy to how features should work, nor do the devs make it easier to access late game / premium content so that can be tested. Instead, the updates come to us as if it were a release product, with only vague, non-commital comments about features that “may” be improved in the future.

I’d like to see Gaijin take a page out of Jagex’s book - start of each month make an announcement of what they hope to achieve that month and why.

Well we could partake in a super testers group…or something. Runescape for life!

Yeah. Well that’s what we need to do. More constructive critics. Less bias opinionated suggestions. More facts and figures.

Case in point, here is how I think the Pirate Pack should have been handled:

  1. All Pirate ships are made available to everyone - for free - to the community. Possibly with some kind of restriction in place (ie: you have to be Rank 9 to access the Rank 9 pirate ship) but they are free and we can do with them as we will.

  1. The patch notes clearly state “these ships are only free for a limited time as we want to see what the community thinks of them. Their attributes may change and they will cease to be available after a set period of time.”

  1. Continuous feedback is acquired through in-game polls and forum messages, asking for feedback on all aspects - what do you like about the ships? What don’t you like? What do you think is a fair price for purchasing these ships? Are you even using them, and if not why not?

  1. Content properly applied to the game based on actual player feedback.

This development cycle can be applied to pretty much everything. The problem as is comes from the fact that on the rare occasions they do ask for feedback we are ignored. People don’t want mixed tiers, yet tiers are mixed. People don’t like the new ship tree, yet the tree has never been adjusted. People have made it very clear that T3 heals are overpowered and T2 interceptors are out of hand, yet these things do not change. At the very least, we should be told why they are not being changed.

Good idea on the pirate release.

I think the new remake on engineers activated heals was a attempt to fix the frigball/engineer problems after listening to the community.

Not that everyone think that this change was good though.

It was good in that they didn’t screw Tier 2 up trying to make Tier 3 happy, but they wound up making things worse and not better. The new Healing Drones have made the healing issues even worse, and the larger mobile barriers have done nothing to counter the problem of turtle-fests or frig-balls.

I havent been able to play since the patch so enlighten me, would the situation improve if thoes healing beacons became AoE but had their heal rate cut in half? (would that make them to powerfull or would they become useless?)
