What if a player disabled Trails for other ships or all ships?
That would make this quite OP to those with super super low graphics (no trails)
Trails don’t eat up that much memory and are really a matter of personal preference. I only use/see others use no trails when they are recording, just to make it look better. This is not a problem.
This is not a problem.
Uh, there is a problem. Two interceptors circling a frigate with this mod + collision compensators. They could ram ships to death by leaving exhaust trails all around it.
Not a fun prospect.
Scale damage then. Frigs take less. Inthe take more~
Fixed
I had this in mind for fighters and frigates anyways. To keep intys from swirling as much.

still, if we have players who disable them they will get screwed since they won’t see trails and if they ignore implementation of this, they will report this as a bugged Plas Web or a hack.
Then they will learn like the rest of us~
IDK, mate. I’m of a mind that we should leave visual aesthetics and game mechanics separate.
It’s a fun idea, but it has too many potential consequences. I’d be all for a Tron engine trail that doesn’t dissipate for a longer time, but not one that deals damage.
Then they will learn like the rest of us~
By flooding forums and leaving the game in frustration?
and how in heck are you supposed to determine damage stats and range?
I could lag and see a tail get stretched for kilometers around a map in a crazy long clipping worm of death, and with this in the game I would not enjoy having to trail around it. Might make intercepts more useful but it is not really good if you’d need to be within pulsar range to trap anyone in a “shell” of damage trails.
Fixed
so two trails… How much damage, what type, and is it -3% energy regen (so if i have 100er/s, it’s reduced to 97 energy/second) or -3 E-Regen (182 energy regen becomes 179 energy regen)?
Read in more detail. I mention this, but not how much damage.
And it takes away from energy regen. As 100 regen -3% = 97 regen. ^^
Fixed
Read new op
Rather than it being a constant stream, why not suggest this as an active module? Engine vent, or something? That way it has a cooldown, a short period of use, and can be made visually separate from stock engine trails in the game’s code?
You, sir, are a magical person. *re-writing op*

Name: Phase Engine/Tron Engine/Lightline Engine
Type: Passive Engine Mod
Upgradable: no
Tooltip: Turns engine exhaust in to damaging plasma for 3% energy regeneration.
Function: Makes a secondary orange engine trail that is shorter that deals heavy Thermal damage when enemies fly though them.
doesn’t say how much damage, also should be “Turns engine exhaust into damaging plasma with a 3% reducton in energy regeneration (-3% energy regeneration)”
Turns engine exhaust in to damaging plasma for 3% energy regeneration.
Re-designed. No longer uses energy regen, but instead uses energy directly.
Well, it’s like a plasma arc, but on the butt of ship instead of the nose, amaright?
So basically you want a plasma arc to come out of your butt? Why not, I guess…
I like the Tron engine idea, but the problem is, we are in 3D, not in 2D. It would be so easy to dodge.
