Currently the matchmaking throws you in very imbalanced mixed tier games. For example, earlier today, my squad was running low rank Tier 3 ships and we were getting mixed in with Tier 5 ships. Although mixed tiers makes for shorter match-finding times, it creates imbalances in the battles.
My suggestion is that Mixed Tiers be an opt-in function if people want shorter match times. There could be a small check box for mixed tiers by the Sector Conquest map that could be selected if someone wanted a shorter wait time. Otherwise, the matchmaking would only put ships of the same tier together.
I think that this is at least worth trying out. Let me know what you guys think in the comments below.
If 75% of the server opted out of mixed tiers, then the wait times would be shorter in the Single tier battles and the mixed tiers option would not be needed by the players.
the 25% who wanted shorter wait times end up having it longer
then we all go back to no mixed tiers
:happy ending:

I’m not a math god by any stretch, but I’m pretty sure Kine was correct.
800 people playing. 75% (600) not mixed and 25% (200) mixed. So each pool now contains fewer players. Based on the fact that matches are taking place all the time, there’s actually a very small amount of people who would be queueing for either option at any given time. So now, for example’s sake we’ll say we’re looking at maybe 75% (12) not mixed and 25% (4) mixed queueing up each minute. This verse the 100% of 16 queueing up each minute is a (16/12) 133% increase in waiting time for the non mixed and a (16/4) 400% increase in waiting time for mixed.
Yeah, I guess it isn’t currently isn’t feasible, but it would be nice to have single tier matches.
Well, who knows. The reason it isn’t feasible is because of a small player base. But perhaps the player base is also partly caused by it not being feasible. There are a lot of improvements that could be made to this game to encourage people to stick around and grow the base. But until gaijin starts focusing on social improvements of the game - adding features instead of removing them, the base will remain small and the queue will remain long.
non mixed waiting times will be shorter than mixed so over the long term no one will choose the mixed option
but overall and until that happens, average waiting times for both will be longer than what it is right now
Makes no sense. If this got implemented the only reasonable way anyone would do it is to have players with the mixed tiers option checked also queue for single tier battles. So their wait times would be shorter than that of single tier only players, but overall wait times would go up for everyone regardless indeed.
Don’t forget this game really has no publicity at this point besides on Steam so that’s part of the reason why the player base is so small. The dev’s have said before they want to wait until 1.0 of the game to start a real ad campaign. If you think about it, especially considering the volatile nature of game mechanic changes in a beta, it’s better to wait until you have a more polished product to market.
Ah, I remember when it was not mixed Tiered matches. Fun times. Good Times. But those wait times were HORRENDIUS.
This past weekend was absolutely painful dabbling into T4. ( probably for those that were unfortuantly happened to have me as a boat anchor on thier side) I didn’t see any mixed tiers… strictly T4… (small groups 4 on each side) with an occasional BOT. Then of course a couple of episodes\matches you were grouped against those KILLING SPREE tandums. Not very good when you have the wrong ships in your slots…
I started thinking … wow is this what you get to look forward too in T4… Guess I better ramp up !!!

Thats why I moved to T4 and stay there. I have to force myself and my squad to stick it through and try to win. Though ESB and NOVA squads…usually hamper progress, we have a way to stop them. We just sit at spawn and get the match over with. If they want a win so badly, just give it to them. Don’t prolong the match in that vain hope of winning.

Not detecting any irony but please say you were joking.

Its like this. I ask my team the following “Okay this is gonna be a very hard fight against So and so. What do you want to do?” They either say yes, lets give them a run for there credits or No, I rather skip this match. Its all up to the team. I personally can care less hence why I ask my squad mates what they want to do. (I am a leader for a reason!)

Abosulutley not. NASA members can care less about DSR as it generally means nothing but of a basis of how much a person plays and at what level there skill is. Russian Corps care about DSR so much that they will stop at nothing to win
I dont want matches that are completely one sided. Its not fun. And when non of my corp mates have fun, there is that lingering question “Why the hell are we even bothering?”
That also goes to say that my DSR fluctuates so much that you really cant tell if I am a bad player or one that dont care. I seen it goe from 1200 to 1450 and then back to 1340…in less than 5 matches…

seems contradictory.
from my observation (at lower tier and mostly non elite corp) they play ultra-defensively and hardly ever pursue objectives.
that isn’t to say they lack skill, quite the contrary - most russian solo heroes I fly against / with have bags of skill. they only refuse to push for strategic advantages if there is even a risk of getting themselves blown up.
that normally translates to them giving away wins if opposing team puts up a fight or
they steamroll everyone because opponents are of lesser skill and winning the match a pleasant byproduct.
from memory I can only remember one Russian corp (cant remember which) that played for wins every single time. They relied heavily on frigballs but atleast they played the game mode. Other than those guys, the stereotype remains generally true.
