Ok people, the internet makes us all faceless ageless users, so I’m just going to assume that my audience is made up of 12 year-olds and explain this plainly and simply (I know that fortunately this is not the case, but bare with me here).
Yes, the game is a beta (even if in name only). Yes, betas are about trying things out. But the things you have to try out have to be SENSIBLE and have to, at least potentially, lead to an improvement.
Let me use an analogy. Let’s assume you’re training mixed martial arts. Training is about trying tactics and strategies out, but you have to be SENSIBLE. If you’re going to “try out” fighting with a blindfold or with your hands behind your back, you’re not “experimenting for potential improvement”, you’re just an idiot. Before training MMA, I used to train Kyokushin Karate, and my gym had a few very talented juniors - some were national and European champions. One of them, Cristiana Stancu, was a multiple national champion, a brown belt and a European vice-champion. Her skill was far superior to mine, but because she was a 17 year old girl that weighed 62 kilos and I was, at the time, a 25 year old weighing 85 kilos, her skill could hardly help her in a match against me. That’s why girls don’t fight boys in competitions and juniors don’t fight seniors. That’s why there are weight classes. Simple enough analogy?
The same is true for tiers. Your skill never really comes into play against someone whose shield regen is higher than your dps. What are you going to do, exactly? Use your skill to make them crash into asteroids until they eventually die?
This move is obviously a shift towards pay to win, which would have been a clever, though dastardly move, if the devs had a xxxx game. But they actually had a great game (my friends more than halved their LoL playing time to play Star Conflict, and they were pretty hardcore players - a testament to how good the game was).
What worries me the most about this patch is that it clearly shows the devs themselves have no faith in the longevity of their own game and are looking for a quick payoff. If that’s the case, why should we, the players, have any faith?
I honestly haven’t found a game I liked this much since WoW, and I am SO disappointed it’s going to xxxx. So very disappointed. I can live with the hike in ship prices and loyalty mess, because I honestly play it for the awesome game mechanics - but those no longer exists now.
PLEASE - listen to your players and roll back the patch!
