I don’t see the need for increasing the grind time for the subfaction standing, because they ONLY give you the blue mods. Increase main faction rep requirement so it takes longer to grind ship tiers, now that’s more reasonable change to promote longer time to reach the top ships, but simple mods? That’s just plainly stupid, the time to grind the mods for ships already was 3x-5x the time you needed to get the ship and the money for the mods even before this change.
Except that the equivalent of the blue mods can also be purchased with cash. I do not think this change is related to longevity, which would make more sense in a subscription-based or one-time payment model. This change reeks of cash grab, which is sad, since pay2win games usually fall on their face.
I disagree with that too. I can’t imagine that being the reason.
If anything, moving the goalposts to a point where it is almost infeasible has quite the opposite effect on me.
Case in point:
Quake III. This game offered NO progression, no change. The only thing that progressed was your own skill.
I have played that game for many years. Why? Because the gameplay was fun and ever challenging and everyone was on equal footing.
Now with loyalty being such a PITA to attain, I can’t fly the ships I want with the gear I want, unless I spend 15 billion years waiting for contract cooldowns or spend ludicrous amounts of gold (well over $110 to fully fit ONE T4 ship. Seriously?), and people that already have rank 12 in everything because loyalty was ok to grind before this patch have an absolutely massive advantage.
Also, If this is some cheap trick to get people to buy gold guns/modules then think again. People are not going to buy gold gear just because it was made it impossible to grind for the blue stuff before the heat death of the universe; It’s only going to make people find something else to do with their time and money.
I have found this post to be quite entertaining, the most vehement back-lash has come from players who brag about the money they have invested into this game. In fact the change will most likely exacerbate the pay to win options, which many people have already taken full advantage of. Personally I am content with the change. As it stands blues are more common than greens, and if were following the common MMO loot coloring system that’s a little backwards. Now I won’t lie to you, I have a few hundred hours invested into this game and already have all sub factions to at least 9, so when I saw the news all I could think was how overpowered I would be. Most my ships can fit full blues as sit stands, so no skin off my back.
As a final thought-
In the most resent Q&A the devs mentioned implementing a crafting system, which I would assume would help to gear out your ship. So look to the future folks.
P.S. remember this is BETA people, the money you/we have invested into the game at this point should be considered a donation to the developers. If you feel you have been shafted that’s on you. In Beta things change, a lot, the developers need do do there job. If you are looking for a secure investment “donating” to a beta game might not be the strongest choice.
ok I get your point but in that case they should of done this in conjunction with the crafting system which I am sure every one would agree would have been fine… but fact is they did not killing the game for many people at this moment, and since this is a twitch fighter game, we live in the moment, the players who leave today most likely will not come back tomorrow so your point as to look to the future is mute, and yes people like me have spent money on the gam our sour because what we bought 2 days ago is damn near worthless by the time they implement any meaningful stuff people feel there license will be up or almost up making it a waste…
Simple solution would be an increase of availible contracts even small ammounts of reputation for a Battle but having all Factin vontracts on massive cooldown is rather annoying. The Rest well its slow but steady work.
500 point Contracts are an unfunny joke. They need to be 1000 at least.
And I’d love to see twice as many Contracts, even more complicated ones.
Its good Loyalty isn’t given away just for playing a match.
There are a lot of matches which don’t have any chance of completing the Contracts I have, they need to be more flexible or have more available.
Domination-only Contracts should only work on Domination maps…or have an alternative for other maps even if it is much harder, at least I’m not wasting a game unable to perform my Contracts.
Increased from what, 100 to 200?
Yes, really. There used to be a lot of 160-200 loyalty contracts before the patch. It was sort of sad.
After thinking about it for a while. Takeing the bonus away per game is fine. IF they make contracts respawn time a lot faster, or cycle one after another. There should ALLWAYS be one up if this is the case. There also are other problems that need to be addressed.
The amount of time played should be the same no matter how spread out it is over. This new way also makes the game better for people who can play 1 or 2 hours a day comparied to some one spending their day off playing all day. Here is a quick comparison. Useing 7 hours 1 day and only 7 hours over 7 days so no repeats on 7day contracts.
The person playing 7 hours in one day will get each of the hour contracts 7 times, each day one 1 time and each week 1 time.
The person playing 1hour each day for 7 days will get each hour contract 7 times, each day one 7 times and each week one 1 time.
Same time not same results for same effort. Kind of screws people who can only play on days off compaired to people who can play each day.
Contracts require certant missions. This I could accept if there was a reliable way of getting the one I need. I saw I had only domination ones left, and remembered that time I got 5 protect the captan ones in a row. So now I have to hope I get the right mission to do contracts? Posable fix for this is make contracts that require a certant mission something like "do A or do B or do C. That way you can do it in any mission or even just A or B and can not be done in all 3 game modes but at least 2 so I get what I need 2/3 of the time. That or make it so I can que up for a game mode and after X time if I did not get a game it ques me for all of them. Makes it so if I want to spend my time working to a goal I can, with out the game does not just screw me out of the time I am trying to use with a random game mode I do not need.
Since I’ve already got Rank 12 with both Legion and Wardens, I’m not all that upset.
That being said, I do think it’s a little harsh to take away to most consistent source of loyalty. The contracts A. take ages to reset, B. are glitched so badly they don’t work half the time, and C. are not set up for the detonation game-mode (by far the most common game-mode it seems).
I get that the original system made it excessively easy to get all the Mk. III modules and thus gave players no reason to buy the premium modules, but the current system just seems to be pissing people off.
To the devs: I’d respond to all this public ire quickly if I were you…
Since I’ve already got Rank 12 with both Legion and Wardens, I’m not all that upset.
Of course you aren’t.
I have rank 9 everything and two rank 12 main factions and I’m -still- upset. Mostly over the fact that this:
- makes friends stop playing because they are casual and have no chance to grind up loyalty ever.
- creates a huge difference between races and factions ranks. You will probably rank 15 on all races before you rank 9 the factions.
“yeah cool you can fly our most advanced ships available, but TROLLOLOLOL you ain’t getting our toys!”
- renders license and firmware boosters useless. I won’t be buying boosters anymore because I’m not getting any loyalty for the boosters to boost.
- forces me to play the game in a way I don’t want to now that contracts are no longer a bonus to progress, but a requirement to progress.
- separates the community into a group of “elite” that have gotten rank 12 everything when it was still feasible, and those that will probably never see a rank 12 faction in all the time they will be playing the game, never unlocking the full potential of the ships they can fly (unless you spend $120 per T4 ship)
To be quite frank, the whole “I got rank 9/12 everything so I don’t care” attitude people seem to have here says a lot, too. You damn well should care, it’s both the loyal veterans (see what I did there) and the flow of casuals that come and go that keep this kind of game afloat. Especially at this point in the game’s life it is of absolute importance to build a solid player base of people enthusiastic about the game, getting their friends to play, etc, not scare them off with absolutely insane changes like this.
If I was a new player and I joined today, I would be packing my bags again as soon as it was clear that there is no way I could catch up to veterans anytime this millennium while they had a relatively easy cruise to the top.
Also “bla bla bla the MK2 gear is almost as good as the MK3”. No, it’s not even close. A ship with gear that’s 10%-20% better at everything, is 10%-20% better at everything, equal pilot skill considered.
I think they did this to us for 2 reasons:
1. Make us more likely to buy premium gear - making them more money
- Make people who won’t spend real money play/grind for longer.
I haven’t logged in yet, but when I do tonight I’ll see firsthand just how slow it takes to rank up in loyalty.
That’s the reason right there. It’s a F2P game, they need to get their money grabs to keep it going.
Well its not making me want to buy stuff. At this rate I’d rather not play at all. Sure, I never spent money in the first place, but now that I’m gone I never will. If league is any indicator is that keeping someone around long enough with the right products will eventually loosen their wallet. See: the number of costumes I buy.
- renders license and firmware boosters useless. I won’t be buying boosters anymore because I’m not getting any loyalty for the boosters to boost.
This will catch their eye most if it’s meant to be a cash grab. This is big. This will lose money. It will lose my money.
As it is, both say they boost loyalty but do not.
the vets who think that we are whinning and believes that Mk3 equipment doesn’t matter can stay in their own dwindling exclusive club.
This is a cash grab tactic. They know its a cash grab tactic. That is to damn bad too… cause i was willing to spend when i wanted something i didn’t wanna wait for. Now i’m not spending another dime. I’ll let the Galactic standards i have go unused just to spite my own damn face. F2P is a clear shaft to anyone paying attention. With the previous method you had a choice, now you do not. And much as i dig this game, i am not gonna GRIND at that level. Perhaps because this game is still in BETA things will be changed to something less extreme. I am certainly hoping so, cause if it doesn’t, i am gonna decline to play, simple as that.
I do this kind of thing when i go to a bar to drink. I don’t run tab under any circumstances because somehow if i pay by the drink i don’t notice the 700% markup on consuming a whole fifth of liquor over a night. If i run a tab and get a 250$ bill at the end of the night i feel like i need to go to AA and call it quits on drinking cause who in their right mind spends that kind of lewt to be served the same liquor you can go buy for WAY less in a liqor store… cause the atmosphere sure as xxxx isn’t worth the price you pay in most clubs or bars
Its a game played with yourself to make yourself feel better about how your blowing your money out your xxxx.
And what i think sucks about this the most, is new people are not gonna come to the game, see the system as it is and NOT continue to play. WHICH SUCKS, i like this game and want it to have a good size community willing to participate and support it WILLINGLY because they see it as a quality game they are down to throw money at.
God Day/Night
What can I say as a new user ? This is insane move… Well I started to play this game for 2 easy reasons.
-
PvE Missions so I can work with friends and spend time
-
It was nice FtP alternative for WoT (and I need a break)
To day I got money for work and guess what ? I not going to buy DLC from steam as it useless now for my plan to grind a T3 Frigate.
This change need to be reverted or reworked as it is now I don’t see any reason to spend Money hire and just find something else to take hard worked cash from me.
ps.If you see me in the game, send a carrot instead of a bullet ^ ^
