Interceptor Guide

Hmmm how can you fly without anti-slower implants ? In this game too many slow modules. Guard stupid slowpoke module has 3600 m range.

Yeah, it’s 2900 on a regular T3 Mk4, non-boosted. It’s just ridiculous, tbh. I’d much rather have the old 1800 (was it?) range. It’s still  a massive boost on Range bonus Guards.

This is very debatable in a sense that you can have a build with micro locator or build without and both of these builds will produce distinctively different gameplay and role on the battlefield

 […]

In the end, both builds are viable, but micro locator will make you into more passive gameplay in direct encounters.

Indeed. Paired with the complementary playstyle, both are invaluable members of any team.

If you want to go for those direct encounters, or the 1v1s where you need every edge you can get in a straight duel, then absolutely get that restoration/survival. The guy with the locator is at a disadvantage in this situation, but to that I would say the mistake lies in getting into that situation at all.

Microlocator is almost useless. There are not so many ships with invis in the battle, spy bots are enough. Its beteer to take restoration/survival module for antislow and saving your a**.

Since others are posting their builds I figured I’d post mine and hopefully get some opinions on it. Before anyone says anything about using the shrapnel cannon I have already tried it and cant hit the blind side of a barn with it. I was initially trying out stacking thermal resists on my shield but as someone else mentioned earlier I was having issues with recons sapping all my shields away and bypassing my resists so I went for the flat increase instead. As for the hull mod I cant really decide what to go with and since my ricasso has so little hull compared to shields none of the current options really stand out to me as being a good choice. The only thing Im really having issues with is having to dogfight other interceptors. For the most part I try to stick with killing engies, lrf’s, and fighters but there are so many interceptors in every game that I inevitably have to dog fight a lot and to me interceptor vs interceptor fights are so annoying I just want to pull my hair out sometimes. Does anyone who has more experience than me have any suggestions on how to improve in these dogfights?

a) Go to Game options and find “Detailed tooltips” ? or soeme thing like that, and turn them on - it will show you full on stats for your ship on a mouse hover.

b) T3 Recons drain up to 13 000 shield during full duration, there is no way you can extend your shield that far, so no matter what you will be drain completely if you let them stay in your LOS for that long.

c) The way current role/build system works is that for most part you can not excel at everything, i find Ricasso is very good vs fighters and frigates (not so good vs Jericho Guards though)so i try not to fight vs intys if i don’t have to.

d) There are so many Recons in game currently that your camo is most of the time useless in most important moment due to drones/micro-locators and huge cooldown as well, i run another survival/restoration module on top.

e) CPU slot - vs fighters and frigates you don’t need it even at maximum ranges their hit boxes are still big enough to hit everything and vs interceptors you not really suppose to fight anyways  i would replace it for you personal likings (more crit or proton wall)

f) Energy management, in your current build you probably very enegy starving - due to ricasso pretty low native energy regen plus you reduce it even further with extra dmg in cap slot, you could fix it by using passive armor (Hull slot for energy regen) or replacing that capacitor slot for either more energy regen or even emergency barrier (getting rid of that penalty on energy regen will make it easier). I personally fly with passive armor+emergency barrier

Here’s a better screenshot with the stats like you suggested

b) since thats the case then would you recommend keeping the shield increase mods or replacing them with resist mods? Prior to the shield boosters I have now I was stacking thermal resist since the only things I get hit by in an interceptor are lasers, guided rockets, and pulsars.

c) i had a feeling this was the case. At least now I wont feel as bad for losing dog fights. Just curious but what ships are good at taking out interceptors? I keep seeing people say bubble gun ships or something like that but have no clue what they’re referring to.

d) what survivability/restoration mods would you recommend over the camo?

b) Yeah i would definately use at least 1 thermal, and for 2d either another thermal or expander/EM

c)Wolf-M is super deadly vs Intys, ECMs, Tackler suppose to but i don’t feel it personally

d)Either Shield regen or Shield resists or Both (instead of flares)

I must be missing something, why are the ranges on your pulse lasers so low?  I’m getting 1850m for T3 and 1750m for T2.  I don’t have anything for range boosting.

if you have these ranges, I assume your DPS value is under 2000?

Weapon mod

Am i correct in assuming you’re using the curved reflector ammo with the r2 fed implant? I tried the reflector before but didnt even think of using the r2 implant with it at the time (im still pretty nooby XD). The damage boost is so tempting but I’ve become addicted to the jericho r2 implant + proton wall for those annoying ecm ships. I might give it another try since I havent been running into many ecm ships the past serveral games.

For Pulse Lasers on CO I recommend the High Frequency Oscillator mod (reduced heat). An extra second of fire (3secs to 4.1secs) provides more overall dps and less frustration. I’m pretty sure that Curved Reflectors are a dps loss, unless you get unreasonably close.

Overheat mod vs regular dmg mod vs curved reflector will boils down to who you are fighting against and personal preferences. But from my experience, I can not remember any good pilots/or they squad giving me a luxury of 4 seconds of interrupted fire on them, ever.

So I have been trying out recon lately and initially i felt like I was doing pretty good but the past day or so I have been feeling like Im either not playing right or am just being unlucky. I know reon is supposed to reveal enemy ships, decloak people, and lay down mines at beacons and I always do fine in this regard but where Im strugling is in interceptor vs interceptor fights. I play in t3 and there are always lots of interceptors, mostly recon on top of that, which is making some games a real pain for me. I try to avoid fighting other interceptors as much as possible but when you’re the only one at a beacon trying to cap it versus enemy interceptors trying to do the same you really only have two options, either fight or run. Not wanting to just hand the enemy free beacons I always choose to fight but its so painstakingly annoying trying to take down other interceptors that Im surprised that benny hill music doesnt automatically start playing when two interceptors get within range of each other. Is this just the nature of the beast so to speak or is there some strategy that I just havent figured out yet? I know not all ships are good at taking down everything but I was curious if anyone had any particular strategies they use.

MY strategy. Dog fight. Time your attacks. Out maneuver you enemy. I can handle 2 intys on me at once, I focus one, and dodge the other. Recons are the most nimble. Use that to your advantage.

i position my Empire Recons as anti fighter/frigs and it is a pain to fight intys, so if i am at the beacon i try to survive/delay enemy cap as long as possible for my team to come, but i rarely try to engage 1v1 as a solo purpose of a kill. While Feds recons have better mobility/agility and it is easier to fight other intys, in the same time due to lover survivability it might be harder to take on more tanker classes.

Recon (you) vs CO: Hold your fire and bait them into using their cooldowns, drain their shields and then go full attack. Uphill battle, if they know what to do as well, see reverse match-up.

Recon (you) vs ECM: Try to always face the ECM, don’t get Stasis with the ECM on your back. Same as CO, but even more of an uphill battle, see reverse match-up.

CO (you) vs Recon: Don’t use cooldowns while your shields are still strong, you have better crit. Once your shields are down (drained or not) go full attack. Make Orion count.

CO (you) vs ECM: Try to always face the ECM, don’t get Stasis with the ECM on your back. Go defensive during energy drain. Save Plasma Arc for Tachyon. Make Orion count.

ECM (you) vs Recon: Energy drain on cd, try to Stasis when you have a clear shot. Save Ion Diffuser for shield drain (it interrupts) or warp.

ECM (you) vs CO: Energy drain on cd, try to Stasis when you have a clear shot. Try to use Ion Diffuser during Orion. If you have E-barrier, use Tachyon BEFORE it triggers.

Regular +damage mod is pretty weak on Pulse Lasers. Curved Reflector will give you an impressive dps number, but what range are you getting that number at (optimal range is about half maximum iirc)? 500m at best (750m with implant?), probably less.

NOTES: R15 Jericho is for levelling, would go with R15 Fed. R13 Empire is for publics, I’d go with R13 Fed for competitive (I can elaborate if you question this).

NOTES: I stopped using Armor Plated Hull, ever since I had problems catching up to a Fed Gunship. Regen Hull is also fun for random publics. I’d go with Armor Plated Hull for competitive, would also like to try EM hull resist for bubbles and torps.
