EMP Bomb Beacon Cheating

More and more players are stealing the EMP bomb and keeping it in their possession. I played a few games where a player takes the bomb and is then surrounded by their own frigates and no one can get to the bomb. This shouldn’t be considered a strategy because the point of the game is to blow up beacons to win NOT steal the bomb and win because your team sucks. It makes gameplay slow and frustrating and rather pointless.

My suggestion is place a time limit on the EMP so if it’s not placed on a beacon after a certain amount of time, it disappears and moves back to the middle or explodes and blows up the one who is trying to hide it (after a friendly warning). However, sometimes players get confused and move in the wrong direction. Please take this into consideration with a warning: “you are leaving the EMP area” type message.

Or , place a boundary around the beacons and if the bomb is moved beyond the beacons it explodes or disappears back to the middle (after a friendly message is ignored).

The goal is to prevent players from grabbing the bomb, surround themselves by frigates and making gameplay lame.

Or , everyone gets equal scoring and the match is a draw unless all beacons are destroyed on one side.

Or maybe just ignore that if someone have the bomb at the end, and instead of taking bombs as a secondary objective instead take kills. If both teams have same amout of beacons left, then the winner team is decided by kills, not bombs in their posesion. TBH i have won some games as well when our squad just grabs both bombs and find a pretty rock to sit behind.

This shouldn’t be considered a strategy because the point of the game is to blow up beacons to win NOT steal the bomb and win because your team sucks.

strategy

a plan, method, or series of maneuvers or stratagems for obtaining a specific goal or result

Goal–Winning

This is indeed a stretagy as it assists the team in winning

If their team suck, then i am sure u are able to get the bomb back with a few cooderinated teammates

But the whole point of Detonation games is now twisted. It could be called “Capture’n’Hold The Bombs” instead of “Detonation”. I’v done with my squads as well, and it is fun, but at the same time it just feels wrong.

+1

well you gotta figure it 1 of 2 ways. Either A 1 team ends up stealing both bombs and flying away and camping them with all their teams frigs. Or B, you play the objective, and when it comes down to the last site, theres still a half dozen frigates camping the objective.

Kinda like all those recon matches which the whole enemy team spawns in as frigs, and if you want to try the objective on that you’ve gotta go through 6 pulsars and 2 minefields (though I’ve had a fair amount of success with empire interceptors microwarping straight into the enemy captain)

i agree with the op, i have had plenty of games where both bomb carriers would just sit in the middle surrounded by frigs, while smaller xxxx would run around killing whatever gets past frig wall of fire.

Win by default.

I think its a bit silly to name it cheating.

It is a valid tactic although i dislike it myself ! actually it bugs the hell out of me :frowning:

no man, it’s an abuse of the game rules that aren’t specific enough.

The general idea is to plant a bomb, it’s possible to ‘circumvent’ the general idea using flawed rules, which is exactly what’s happening.

it’s correctly termed an exploit.

I’ve see corps do this to farm EFF.

EFF is currently broken for matches right now anyway. too much EFF gained from kills. not enough from the objective.

A form of cheating is to violate the rules. I’m not trying to be a b*tch about it, but the rules are simple: capture the EMP, plant it.

Sure you can call it a strategy, a lame lazy one at that, but again, that’s not what THIS particular game is about. Seriously, if you don’t want to get in there a fight to get the bomb and move it to the target (aka playing by the rules) THEN LOG OFF and play a different game.

I agree with Fatshoki. It’s an abuse of the game and rules.

How about this: instead of putting all your energy into NOT playing by the rules, put all that energy into playing by the rules.

But then again, there are no rules stating, that camping with bombs is not allowed. Blame the game for such imo silly victory conditions instead of players who use provided options to win the match.

Asking players to play honorably is one of the dumbest things you can do. Mainly because we’re supposed to be mercenaries. so that throws honor out right away. we’re concerned with personal glory and getting ahead.

To put it in more eloquent terms, I will borrow from one of my favorite quotes: Because you still have hope that this war will end with your honor intact. Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls, and ask the ghosts if honor matters. The silence is your answer.

Simply put, fixes to EFF are how to mitigate this. until that happens, corps will continue to farm EFF by doing this.

I’m not asking the players to do anything you MORON. I’m asking the develepors to modify the game so that idiot players who refuse to actually PLAY the game properly can’t do ruin it for every one else.

“Oh gee, oh gee. I can’t move the EMP to the beacon because I don’t want to risk getting blown up. What will I do? I know, I’ll just do nothing. That’ll show them! They won’t blow me up. Not sure why I’m playing though. But it’s not actually written down that I can’t do whatever I want so I guess anything goes! Let me think up more stuff that isn’t written down, screw the sprit of the game.”. Morons!!

Whatever. The game is lame now anyway. 4 maps over and over and over and over again. PVE? Even worse. 2 maps over and over and over and over again. Realistic? haha. 1 map over and over and over and over and over and over.

I will comment on this subject no more.

Bye.

Who gives a rats a$$ about RP point of view in a game like this?

Generally the developers. And generally the ‘hard core’ population of a game cares. it’s a minority.

But given that there were a couple questions that involved game immersion in the Q&A…it’s important.

so in short: more people than you might think. right now? like no-one. but there’s what…maybe 50 active posters on the forum? and thats extremely optimistic. most online, globally, was around 3k.

population is tiny. immersion is part of the reason for that. part of the reason people like to play games is because of immersion.

this is why people argue about stupid things. like grass. customization of color on ships. stickers for flags, etc. none of these are required. but they help immersion.

this is, sadly, true.

even sadder, is most people dont’ even notice/appreciate the small things till they are gone.

This is no cheating, but we will re-think about the current mechanism.

cheers

Although not a major issue it is quite a frustrating one.

My 2 cents

The point of detonation IS to destroy the Beacons, a team holding onto the EMP bombs till victory destroys the purpose and spirit of detonation mode.

I blame the devs for not implementing something to curb this tactic but at the same time i can blame the players that created this tactic. so here is my suggestion.

Have the EMP Bomb on a rot timer where it becomes useless after say 120 seconds after the SAME team holds onto the EMP bomb without moving more than 5000 meters TOWARD the enemy Beacons.

This would force bomb holding tatics to keep advancing (at least) towards a beacon, the timer resets after it changes teams.

It won’t entirely eliminate the ‘bomb holding tactic’ but this at least makes teams that do this tactic pick 1 of 2 things

A) let the bomb rot, pick up next.

B) Advance 5000 meters towards beacon.

When the bomb carrier moves away from the beacon the rot timer accellerates exponentially. Repeated abuse of the 5000 meter limit results in instant bomb rot.
