I discussed this with one of the GMs and the answer was “that T1 can save the game in Capture the beacons mode”.
From that conversation I was watching closely what’s going on.
Results: most of PvP games are “which side has less lower tiers, wins”. Simple as that.
The icing on the cake was a 5v5 game, T5, with two four-person squads on the opposite teams. One was full T5, second one had one Mammoth and… T1s.
No, their 11 T1s didn’t save the game.
I would put it on the mistake of the guy, who accidentally put T5 into the slot, going for a T1 game, but no. They did it the same next game.
So - if you guys don’t want to mix T4s and T5s in MM, why are you allowing T1s?! T2s cannot help much either - our corp did some testing on it. T3 help was only situational.
Look at this that way - a person who is flying T5, has to have at least two T4s as well. Let that person fly them as well - I have no problem with T4s in T5 - they are less powerful, but in skilled hands they are contributing to the team effort. But T3s - and lower? No. Simple as that. Let the player know that there is a mismatch in his ship combination and simply don’t allow him to get in the T5 queue.
