I’ve heard complaints like this for a while, but today I had some moron friendly firing on me with a coil mortar to the point where I had to walk away from the TV and bury my head under a blanket until the pain went away.
Put simply…
YOUR GUNS ARE TOO LOUD!
YOUR SHIELDS ARE TOO BRIGHT!
Coil Mortar and Eclipse are especially bad for this. When I play on the laptop coming under fire from coils or eclipse on the darker maps result in a black screen with a big flashing light in the middle and I not only have no idea what’s going on, I’m in pain trying to find out.
Seriously, tone it the hell down! We do not need to hear explosions loud enough to burst eardrums and strobe flashes fine-tuned to induce an epileptic fit.
change sound volume and gamma settings
change sound volume and gamma settings
Neither works.
Changing Gamma doesn’t do anything. Changing sound means I. Can’t hear anything except the explosions.
don’t get hit by explosions.
This is how it feels when other people offer stupid suggestions instead of real constructive critisicm.
But Jasan’s suggestion is good and has sense.
i agree, the visual darkness is the worst, especially with pulsar/coil on a laptop screen, everything goes black apart from your ship which is glowing orange. suddenly it turns into a guessing game of where to fly. with the gamma slider on max and min nothing changes
Also for some reason, when you hit minefields you “get blind”. If it’s intended to work that way I’m ok, although I don’t know if it makes sense at all. But I find it pretty annoying too.
My screen goes black if i hit an object really hard or if i get hit by something very bright, eclipse, supercharger, etc
My screen never goes dark, must a be a bug… :dntknw:
curse of the mac book pro maybe
Yep i use mac to play Star C
Maps with strong glow effect (Threshold, source) to OP.

MacBook Pros are awesome.
On topic: I’m slightly less irritated by the visuals as compared to Jasan, but the audio is enough to make my eardrums flee in terror.
Don’t mind the visuals (never have my screen going dark, no idea what that’s about) but am flying with game sounds muted, way too annoying.
Suppsedly the ammo from the weapon is so bright that it makes everything else seem dark
Like when you go inside after staying outside on a bright sunny day?
   … NO.

This is exactly why we use computers, to compensate.

That means you’re easy to kill by nukes?
That means you’re easy to kill by nukes?
Nukes, guided torps since visual indicator was removed, you name it. I’m never an easy kill though if I don’t want to, just easier to kill than I could be.
