About styx builds, I like a lot what u all expose here. I have tryed all u wrote here already, I think the best engineer is the alive engineer. U can get firepower, but when u play vs good players, an engineer shouldnt show its head if its not a good tank, you will not be able to use your firepower. I think thats the best tip I can give about engineers.
PS.- There are a lot of engineer builds, that depends of game mode, map, and ship vs u are playing with.
See you around!
And the “alive” engineer is…? Heh, well, I guess that depends on skill, your team, their team, plus luck ^^

He said about to change surbavility for firepower, yes u can get more firepower, but an engineer is not a good killer, even with the best fire build. Your work as engineer is to support, (heal+energy* restoration) and if u get any kill, great!, but there are a lot of difference when a team loses his engineer, the team begins to desintegrate (if no more engineers left).
*Energy: Very important, Ive seen lot of ships without energy emiter :S
There are many other funny modules, I used to use Energy Barrier; my friend yeahalex and me had many good games with our combo bouble Wolf-M + Styx with barrier. Funny vs middle playes, but top games u need the real good stuff.
wow I haven’t been playing with a styx for some time since I got an anaconda with 2xcpu & faster engines, but I’ll give it a go…
I haven’t got the best hulls, but its mainly about support… I use cooling ammo also, this allows the eclipse to be awesome for fixing as the horizon module makes no difference to the hull repair. Also slipped in a basic shield boost for own purpose… this can be replaced with a repair station…

Regenerative coating is great for some ships (see: certain interceptors), but certainly not for the Styx. You’re going to get approximately half of the heals you already get from the hull aura while sitting still, and approximately nothing extra at all while moving. Now, this means you get about 150 pts/sec (approximate, quite a bit too large) while still, and 100 pts/sec while still. Not exactly a huge difference.
On top of this, you could have equipped a galvanized armor instead. There’s a really useful dev blog about resistances on this forum somewhere that talks about effective HP and such. Equipping a galvanized armor would effectively multiply your self heals by 1.3 (an underestimate, at that) at all times, as well as effectively multiplying your hull HP by 1.3 at the same time. Now, that’s 130/150, or approximately 87% of the effective hull regen you have with the regenerative coating while still, and 130/100 is approximately 130% of the hull regen you have while moving.
For reference, if you stay alive for 10 minutes and constantly have a small amount of hull damage to heal while staying completely still, that extra 20 effective pts/sec with regenerative coating is going to account for a grand total of 12k effective hull points. Note that this is a completely unreasonable situation - generally one moves for a good portion of a game, has no hull damage for a significant amount of it, and does not stay alive if completely still. Note that this 12k effective hull points is a mere 5k effective hull points more than you would have from the effective HP multiplier from the galvanized armor. Also note that this effective HP is active at all times and all situations, and that you’re easily about ten times more likely to make full use of the HP from galvanized than you are from regenerative coating.
