Why ECM Complaining?

After flying out ECMs for the first time in a long while, (Jerico) I’ve been having a fun time with them. They’re now my favorite interceptor class of ship.

But why the complaining? Sure it’s a pain that I can disable your modules and guns for a few secconds, but I can’t kill you quickly.

That’s the part about this ship that’s hard, you can’t kill stuff. I think it’s perfectly balanced as it is right now.

Because they’re broken?
Did you try them in T4/T5 yet?
You’re basically unkillable if you fly it right?

And just the fact that you can so to speak “unplug someone’s keyboard” for seconds is just wrong in a skill-based game, it doesn’t belong here.

True however, you do less damage. Also, usually if people speak about “Interceptor” they mean Recon or CovOps or one of the weaker ECMs, while if they complain about ECM, they usually mean the broken ones, or their effectiveness when spammed.

They are low risk ships with powerful spells, evasion and tank, and get even more powerful with implants reducing their cooldown. It’s an easy to play ship by default, which is why there is not much respect from people who are skilled enough to actually use some riskier ship instead. They are also great for Doomsday troll kills. There is nothing wrong with most of them. Certain situations REQUIRE them.

Back in the Ceptor days, ECMs were party poopers, who basicly screwed up dogfights. We might never forgive them that either.

However learning it and enjoying it for a while is not a sin. At least once in your life, you want to stun an enemy recon to crash into an asteroid and die by collision.

Understood. Yeah I’m only in tech level 4 on ECMs so far.

added that. I mean on purpose. It’s hilarious. But it is also as far as “skill” goes for this role. It is very easy to play. Best Captain ship to have. But to be honest, to win a dogfight with ECM, for me the only way to be a valid victor is making the enemy crash in a loop. Otherwise, the sheer fact to fly ECM is basicly denying dogfights. Especially those with the “ECM module duration bonus”. So besides the questionable brokenness, it’s also a honor thing.

do you mean tech 4 (R10-12) or rank 4. It’s confusing since techs got removed.

Sorry I didn’t realize tech 4 was rank10+. I’m still working on how all that works.

I mean rank 4. Jerico ECM with only two modules.

So much QQ, so little Proton Walls. Seriously, people?

I mained ECMs and didn’t care what others thought. Don’t pay attention to the QQ, HBZK.

can confirm, some people are incredibly difficult to kill even for me. Then again I am rusty and it is usually on the russian server but I always find it impressive when I encounter them because I strip their shields, then they regen, then I strip their shields again, then they use their special module and regen, then i strip their shields a third time and get them to two thirds hull and they run away behind a rock where a friendly engineer is waiting… and they usually get one or two kills in the meantime. I mean yeah, they stay clear away from me unless i’m outnumbered but that’s not the point of tdm is it, it’s about who can cut down the most trees first. IDK if the teams I’m facing are squadded up or what but sometimes it is just plain difficult to do everything myself because one team has two or three competent players sticking together taking apart the steady stream of people from spawn to objective. Then again that feels like every game regardless of which team they are on.

Ever have one of those days where you just can’t stop your “teammates” from dying because their attacker keeps getting away? It’s like a horror movie.

Personally I don’t see what people have difficulty with. you use the implant that  gives you energy drain immunity and use a wall or two if you’re not a gunship. An ecm will never bother you again. Either because you outdamage them and kill them or they go pick on somebody else.

This is not QQ. It is about why there is QQ. I can kill you in your ECM all day if you want. With Proton Wall and Implant.

thats okay, since “Tech” is officially not really there anymore, I was more or less just asking for clarity. In those ranks, the power doesn’t really shine yet, in <R8 you will find a bit of a different meta. Frigates are barely more tanky than gunships, ceptors mostly are not energy stable, lots of modules still locked, and most ships are small anyway, etc. This changes.

Aside from being extremely annoying and imbalanced if used in great numbers (which is anything above 1 tbh  ![:p](<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/004.png “:p”) ), the tank on those ships is insane. Just yesterday, I played some T3 to scout for some daily destroyer kills, I encountered an ECM while flying my Ira Deus. It took two over 9000 dmg crits to just take down the shields (I asumed the player used a shield booster after the first hit, so that would make about 14k-15k shield points on an interceptor… At higher tier, I sometimes hit an ECM with a torp and it only takes down half of the shields. I personaly find ECMs dishonourable and abstain from flying them so I am not familiar with any specific builds for ECMs above T3 but still. A ship that makes you as easy to kill as an ECM should be easy to kill as well. IMHO it should be a high risk, high reward ship, not a low risk, high reward ship. Perhaps the balance would be in the fact that they often need a teammate to help them deal some real damage but then again, DOOMSDAY Missiles.

There is a crew slot that you can use to avoid the ecm modules for a long amount of time and that alone is enough to make ecm balanced. If you use that and the cpu mod then its even better. I don’t use it on my dessy at all and without the crew slot its bad but when I set it then much better so I would suggest setting your crew for that.

For some guns there is crit ammo and lock on time never is really an issue for me… Set a crew specific for pvp or class then. I don’t know how to solve your issues; I just know that’s how I did it and it may not work for you…

Totally OT, but thanks Mecron. That chart (or actually the original one) explains why I lost 2 days when some moron gave me 500mg of Tramadol, while I was on MST… No one wanted to explain it to me.
