Plasma is highly ionised and can be contained by extremely strong electromagnets. It also can produce an electric current and be manipulated in such a way that it generates an electromagnetic field.

What we need is another frigate. An Ion Cannon Frigate from Homeworld 2. Basically we can modify the Jericho Long range frigate with a new special weapon like this. The ion cannon can reach as far as 15,000 Meters, and its consistant damage is in EM. Though it only lasts for 5 seconds of about 2500 Damage per second with about 10 second recharge, In Homeworld, its balanced as the Ion Frigate MUST be guarded as it has no Point Defense turrets

I very much enjoy the fact that LRF got 6 turrets aswell, i only wish they had some way of using them better like a toggled active module that increse main weapon range (about 15%) and projectile speed (about 40%), possibly with a negative effect aswell as a energy cost if needed to balance it out (fire your own shields FTW).
Solution: Long Range Lasers with 3 Horozon modules = 17.7k range.
I don’t know if this thread is appropriate, but I’m suggesting some more types of missles/launchable things.
Inspirations from other games and shows.
Micromissile Bay:
A medium sized version of the Octopus, with more missiles with even faster speeds and turning radius. Damage per missile unit is small though and the range is very short for a guided missile. This can be a good type of missile weapon to fire off in close quarters turnfighting.
Multi-Missle Launch Vehicle:
A large sized guided missile that has the range and turn of a cruise missile, but upon a set distance from the target or it is shot down by the Antimissile Shield, 4 guided missiles are launched, each dealing the same damage as a standard missile.
Bomb:
A medium sized bomb that deals damage in a wide area, but considerably less actual damage amount than the Nuclear Weapon. Once released, the bomb will go on a staight path of the vector where the ship’s nose has been pointing on the moment of release and explodes after a set distance.
Cluster Bomb:
The Bomb’s larger cousin, with a larger 90 degree cone shaped damage area from the point of detonation.
Missile Sentry:
A deployable sentry drone that shoots guided missiles to anything in range, Has limited ammo and will explode once it has run out.
Cluster Trail:
A weapon that releases multiple bomblets from the rear 90 degree area of the ship, dealing a fan-shaped damage area from behind. Good for warding off people that tail behind.
And so those are my ideas for now.

an ion cannon frig is basically a huge gun. but it would look really weird, since homeworld AI always aims precisely, but people will swing those things around and turn the game intoa light show!@
Dude, I just want a weapon that literally acts as a tractor beam, allowing me to “briefly” throw a ship around in space.
In all honesty the Tesla gun suggestion up there is a great idea, and I wish it were implemented.
