Visually cut off engines at maximum speed

It doesn’t really make sense to have the ship still burning fuel while sitting at max speed -in space- so turning off the engines when the ship reaches maximum speed would be a really nice looking addition.

Plus, it could maybe contribute to a stealth factor of sorts. No engine glare when traveling in a straight line.

Bruh it’s already hard enough to tell if you’re strafing or not since afterburners stopped showing for any movement other than going forwards. I’d not be surprised if a lot of newer players aren’t even aware Destroyers can strafe simply because the value is so miniscule you’d almost mistake it as leftover momentum.

The flight model in this game is fundamentally non-newtonian.

Doing a 180 turn, for example, doesn’t require you to accelerate again into the desired direction because the game engine conserves your forward speed.

So, disabling the engine effect at full speed may solve weird looks when flying in a straight line at constant speed, but it creates more inconsistencies when you manouver.

That’s why they should turn back on when maneuvering.

Plus, there are those little tiny engines (name for them slipped my mind smh) all over that still visually fire. They seem to be mostly correct in terms of actual movement.

They are not though. For example, flying in a circle at constant speed and radius will not have them fired, which doesnt make sense.

Also, their placement is useless on many ships. Elly ships dont even have them.

Still

They are called “vernier engines” aren’t they?
