Visual Ship Customization: an alternative to senseless grinding

I don’t know how many players here have tried Hawken. I have, and personally the game gets dull rather quickly. But there is one thing they did that I found to be really interesting: their mech’s visual customization.

Rather than resorting to excessive grinding of reputation, loyalty, and credits to slow down player progress and add longevity to Star Conflict, why not expand the options available for players to spend their buckets of credits on?

I’m speaking of additional end-game content expansions and visual upgrades. Stuff that doesn’t affect actual gameplay, but is fun or pretty.

Right now Star Conflict has half the tiers of World of Tanks and even fewer ship choices. This can easilly be expanded by making ships modular, much like Hawken mechs. If a player doesn’t like the default wings of their Deimos 2, they can spend credits to swap them out for another wing design. Don’t like the red glow of your Jericho frigate’s engines? Pay some credits, and you can change them to Federation blue! Want a sleeker body for your Federation fighter? No problem!

Certain visual customizations could even be locked until the relevant achievement is unlocked on the player’s profile, thus letting players visually show off their achievements. I’m thinking special camoflage patterns or elite parts. Congratulation! You reached max loyalty for Raid? Here’s a special Jericho camo pattern with gold-accents!

Or for that matter, why not continue adding tiers of ships? World of Tanks goes up to 10, so why can’t we go up to 11! They don’t all have to be ready by the time the game is out of beta. Content updates are exciting! And they help you keep your player-base interested.

In conclusion, there are so many more possibilities for expanding the longevity of a game besides stretching the grind between levels to mind-numbing proportions. Please consider making credits and loyalty rewards less harsh and instead adding some more content to your game.

If not more ships possibly more modules for ships, or more tiers of modules instead of T1, T2, Military, Loyalty and Epic (note military and epic can only be looted as far as I have encountered). I agree the game has many possibilities and a bright future. However, I disagree about the harshness of the credit reward. At t1-3 I’ve found it rather fair. Loyalty, don’t get me started. But all things in time and perspective.

people pay alot for pretty !!!

Yes, yes they do.

I generally like this idea, the problem being is the current state of Star Conflict. Since we are players and can always opinion what we want in a game we hardly consider how hard it would be for a dev team to do this. TO implement this you need to come up with new game coding, mechanics, ship models / parts, and other programming to make it all work. Not to mention User Interfaces, animations, and then pricing the new content.

Star Conflict is still a beta- feels like a beta, plays like a beta, and content / fixes are implemented like it is a beta. Personally I want them to fix and balance all the core concepts, and FULLY test and develop content they want to add instead of adding a half xxxx poorly implemented system (Sector Battle) which has a bunch of screwy nonsensical things about it.

and yes I’ve played Hawken love it, but the problem is that Hawken was built from the ground up to HAVE parts changed from one to the other. Star Conflict was not designed from the ground up to have ship part customization so the resources to develop, code, design and implement it may not even exist right now.

i agree  im a big fan of custom individual designs  making it the way we like it  :)

i woud already like if we only can change the color of the ship but here are much more interresting ideas i did not even think of

we see the ships of other player in watch mode after we been hit and it would be interresting to see all the players different design  instead every same ship :)
