Very quick, fleeting idea for Reconnaissance

Let’s face it; unless your captain does something exciting like fly off into battle, this mode is a game of tug of war with the winners more often than not being those who got the most kills (how about some standard TDM, by the way?) by the end!

How about something that coaxes captains out of their holes? for example, there could be a point - let’s call it a “beacon” - that only the captain could capture. Or, maybe, they could simply provide a significant combat (not, necessarily, attack) bonus as long as they remain within a certain range of a certain point of a map. Possibly, even an A to B situation? These are just random, undeveloped thoughts, but I’m sure that I’m not the only one who feels that this mode could do with a little refining!

No answers required, although if you agree and wish to expand or just think I’m talking out of the wrong hole, please feel free to elaborate! To those who choose to do so in the latter regard, at least make it witty; I feel that I’m a little short on that virtue and so must experience it vicariously!

Cheers

I think something that’s plaguing Combat Recon right now is the instant Captain identification.

All it does is demoralise the player who’s the Captain, because for the entire game you’ve got a giant radar bullseye painted on your ship, and every single player on the enemy team is out to get you.

You might as well get in a spacesuit and sit on the outside of your ship with a big sign that says ‘Kill Me’.

Instead of doing this, require the enemy team to ‘identify’ the Captain, through single-target modules like the Spy Drones and the Target Painter. When an enemy uses one of these modules on the Captain, he is identified to that enemy player.

This would give the Captains a little breathing room, as well as encourage communication and teamwork amongst both teams.

That would be really worth testing, CaptainPipSqueek.

but in that case captain could hide and never be found nor identified.

Then there should be some kind of indicator, that ping enemy captain location once every 10-30 sec, or something like that.

True, but each Captain has the radar ping that allows them to see enemy ships at extreme distance. They would be able to notice if a ship was trying to hide, in which case it would only be a matter of sending an interceptor over to find out if he’s the Captain or not.

Of course it might be a normal player baiting you into a wild goose chase to try and split your forces.

If the enemy team doesn’t know who the Captain is, and doesn’t have a constant radar indicator, the radar buff that the Captains get must remain, or else it’s going to turn into a hide-and-seek stalemate.

You might as well get in a spacesuit and sit on the outside of your ship with a big sign that says ‘Kill Me’.

lol, priceless

as for the idea, i agree, as well as captains’ ability to see ships that are far

as far as getting the captains into combat, something simple like buffing all nearby ships in a 1-2-3 click radius should be a good addition

a bad point is getting a big mix of new players in the same match who don’t actually have an identification module, so that needs a sorting out - maybe a built-in scanner on the ship with a hotkey and taking a bit to scan, say… 2-3-4 seconds?

I remember when I was captain camping, I was a keyboard hero and told everyone what to do. Needless to say, our team won.

Though it would be better if it had a system of saying before the match. Do you want to be captain? Yes/no/I don’t Care
