I was able to log into the game and forum without this two-step authorization. I’m not keen at all on using this, especially if it involves some google service - to the point where I would consider leaving the game, should that indeed become obligatory. That WinAuth alternative link returns a 404 and the mobile app has russian preselected as language in the url, but again it would be a hassle to require additional software in order to play the game or use the forum. I would imagine having something like this mandatory from the start could prove a high barrier of entry for new players, too.

Because I don’t want to give my phone number to random people that may use it for other purposes. And I also do not want to download this WinAuth thing. Shouldn’t it be my own responsibility if my password is secure or not? I feel like a child being given orders by an over-protective parent. Please remove this authorisation thing once and for all. If need be, force people to use more sophisticated passwords, but this is NOT the solution.

Yes, it’s really annoying. It’s just making the login process more complicated and forces us to install things we don’t even want.
Simply add smth like "Password must be at least 8 letters long, having at least 1 capital letter and numbers or smth, but not that…

Two-step authorization is a royal pain in the a$$. It is fine as being optional. If people are worried about their forum account not being secure, they can activate two-step, but for those of us who could care less about the security of our forum accounts, do not make this mandatory.

The point is (as always) security, Gaijin has implemented this to secure all accounts. We understand that it can be inconvenient, but you need to enter a code only 1 time per month.

The point that we have to enter it once is enough.
The problem also lives in the service of such methods.
Such information may go to any 3rd party and there is no guarantee, in whose hands it can get and what they will do with it.
It is known that some companies pay for certain information, which may include some statistics, or parts of your browsing habits and even more sensitive data.
Single step authorization is more than enough, especially if you do everything in your power to keep your computer clean and safe of any possible infections.
Strong and long passwords always helps, especially if you use a password, which never repeats on any other applications as well.
I still believe that single password protection is enough.
Double-step authorization just gets you the feeling, that Gaijin is unable to protect your account sufficiently or that at least, that it isn’t confident that it can provide such service to the full extent.
If that’s the case, there is another matter, which may be more logical.
I know that it is better to be safe than sorry, but nothing is guaranteed, even if you use such service.
It only decreases your chances or your account of being compromized, but it does not eliminate the threat, if it exist.

Well how is it enough for all of my email boxes which contain sensitive information, for my Facebook account, and for my bank account (although certain functions require extra authorisation)? Why should a forum for a game need to be MORE secure than all of the above mentioned Internet based services? It makes no sense.

This is not just a password for a forum, it is a unified account for your forum, gaijin store and game, and if you keep in mind that it is indeed have access for real money purchases, you might remember all “authorization” steps needed to perform for such services everywhere else. So all of a sudden 2 step authorization make sense to protect YOUR money.

There we go. That was the explanation I wanted. However you may then consider services such as Amazon. I have an account there, can purchase things, but any verification procedure is carried out by my bank, not by Amazon. I have never had to download something for them or receive confirmation text messages. At most a confirmation e-mail.
But anyway, purchases should be made secure by your bank or paypal or Steam or whatever, not by Gaijin. That’s how I understand online transactions anyhow.
