title says it all.
I’m on windows 7 and the star conflict taskbar icon flashes when the game starts. That should be enough to get your attention
Repeatedly bounces from the dock on OSX as well.
@ thread title “people do other stuff while waiting”
I wonder what these people are doing that’s so distracting… maybe checking on the ecm weather forecast?

I rather wonder how you’ve got so little going on in your life that you wouldn’t do other stuff while waiting. Are you actually sitting there looking at the timer waiting for a game to happen?
Hello, this is not a bug.

I sometimes open up chrome and go running through the forums, either that or open up the other game that I mainly play…
I can understand the issue described, but personally not a problem for me.
I have two displays, and I always see the other screen.
Also the sound is quite loud already.
Also the task bar title blinks.
There COULD be a small additional tick with the timer like in many other games. Like last 5 seconds could go with small tick sound: “tick”, “tick”, “tick”, “tick”, “tick” *game starts*.
Biggest issue is when in captain mode. There should be audible sound when you are selected as a captain. BOTH when waiting the game to start, and mid-game.
Being captain is the only information I might regret not checking if doing something else when waiting for game to start and it goes all the way to the in-game already when I’m back focusing to the game.
Well as far as Windows users are concerned, two words: Volume Mixer.
Lower all other sources and leave SC turned up.
That said, the taskbar does flash and the sound is very distinct to begin with.

Yes, we are doing exactly that.
Sarcasm detector fail much?
It was an inside joke obviously, and uhh of course our fellow WPK members participate in optional minesweeper tournaments while waiting for matches to start. Looking at the timer tick was really fun only for the first couple of months of playing or so, than you slowly have to find something else.

The bold threw me off!
Actually, that bold was put there completely by accident, it was never intended! Just noticed now.
So weird…
Hello folks, thanks for the feedback, I see that I need to provide a little more detail. (Also, thanks Rakza for correcting the post category.)
I really don’t want to hear the hangar noise while watching tv fullscreen on my computer. I just want to hear the Triangulation sound.
So windows volume mixer doesn’t work for what I want.
And icon bounce or flash doesn’t help because other application is fullscreen.
Triangulation sound should have its *own* volume control within the game – so it can be just a little louder for people who are, say, chatting ingame while waiting, but it can be very contrastingly louder than the rest of the game sounds for people watching tv fullscreen. Given how long Q times are, there are very likely other people who would benefit from this minor enhancement.
Thank you.

I would. I’m always doing something else while I queue. Catching up on academic readings, making coffee, washing my coffee cup, doing work, cleaning my table…
But while I would like to see some changes, I do believe the devs have more important issues to handle. This is an inconvenience, yes, but it’s a minor one that I can bear with.
@Jacxis - Your use case is different than mine. you’re afk, and you dont mind hearing hangar noise as well as triangulation sound. I’m at my computer and don’t want to hear hangar noise, but only the triangulation sound.

I do mind hearing hanger noise. That means I can’t listen to my J-rock, which can be very loud and does drown out the triangulation beep. I stopped listening to my own music because I couldn’t hear nukes beeping.
That hangar noise… is actually really soothing. Could probably not stand the silence if it wasn’t for the noise, there’s just something about it. I know they made a lot of additions to the hangar sounds during the patches, but I never really gave it much tought before. It is actually really well done.
But yes, maybe it would be a good idea to just add option mute hangar sound if you’re doing something else at the time and don’t want to miss the triangulation.
They just need to do it like other games do it - mute all sounds while the game window is not active (we already do have that option and I use it), but once a match has been found give an audible alert regardless (that’s what we’re missing).
Necro post time :>
