Hello, if you have questions about the tournament or event?
Or if you have an idea what you want to see in a tournament, you can post them all here.
And a decent conversation is always welcome.

Interesting Can we also get served beer here?
Well I had a question: how long until the next one approximately? (I missed the last one unfortunately)
that will depend on the events & tournaments from SC them selfs.
A T3 tournament would be nice again. This game needs some more frequent PVP events, to make squading and team-play more popular. Maybe some “weekend-fights” mini tournaments with some symbolic prize (around 50-100 GS).

I could not agree more on doing them more frequently,i think might help with Getting more Squads out there.I remember when it was mostly squads running out in PvP.You would have one or two people playing solo in a match of 10 or so people. And i might add,WITH OUT BOTS. And i am sure it won’t be long before the Next tournament rolls…Just saying…

Definitely. I miss the days of no bots AT ALL. I can understand putting them in to T1, cuz they are good for new players to fight against easy targets in order to learn how to play, but in any other tier they are pointless and should be removed.
I definitely support the idea of a T3 tournament, it would be cool to do a team battle tournament, and all teams must be from one corp, or we could even do a 12v12 alliance vs. alliance tournament (widely recognized alliances like CDF or NASA OWLLIANCE)
Has there been any thought about a tournament where you would restrict the team’s total “Pilot rating” to a set amount so you would vary the makeup of the team.
Otherwords if you set a 5 man team its total Pilot rating cannot exceed 23K well you cannot stack the team with 5 team members whose skill rating are over 7K each.

I believe the rating is too easy to manipulate, just jump into a T1 or T2 game and your ranking will go down, victory or defeat and even if you came out on top of the score board.

People would go to t2 for a couple of hours beforehand, in order to lower their rating, and still form a good squad. Some people have no pride like that.
You beat me to it Sephi XD

and what do u guys think about tournaments in open space ? for example…
and what do u guys think about tournaments in open space ? for example…
As far as a tournament in Open Space goes, it would take A LOT of organizing, as well as a lot of rules. It could definitely work though. I still prefer doing tournaments in custom games, this way you have no bots/AI’s interrupting.
well like u can see we’v done it befor… its pritty easy to do, aslong as every team respects each other flying towards the sector and so on …
But then again theres nothing like a good skilld, full teamd custom room !!
And about thows small events we’v thought about it to do somthing like “King of the Hill” (custom room) , VIP (open space) and so on.
and what do u guys think about doing small stuff like that without rewards ? if we start somthing like that and just for fun …
if it wud become big enuff i think its posible to arrange somthing like that.
then again for somthing like that we need to dragg all or allies & friends in it…
Tournaments? Why not just do organized sector sweep.
I’m seeing a distinct lack of tournament ideas. So have a couple half-baked ones.
Idea: Mixed tiers. Capture the beacons, but each person can only bring one ship from each tier, max.
Idea: Class warfare. Team battle, but both teams must only bring ships of one class.
Idea: Missile spam. Beacon hunt, but no main weapons or modules are allowed.
Idea: Submission. Domination, but 4 v. 8. Bigger team must use ships one tier lower than the enemy, and cannot have more than two frigates or ECMs at any one time.
Idea: Slow, but steady. Detonation, but only frigates are allowed.
Idea: Cruise engine, double drone, no-slow tackler. Combat recon, but the captain must be a recon, and all other ships are… Cruise engine, double drone, no-slow tacklers.

> Good idea, and we have already talked about it! I liked the large amount of tactical preparation required for this. Do we start low tier first, and increase? Do we go all in and bring our t5 out first hoping to secure an early victory? I think this has a lot of potential!

> ECM only fight!!

> Meh

> Lol! Fed guard ftw! This could be amusing to watch though

8 minutes of no combat
well like u can see we’v done it befor…
this might work in friendly idealistic matches, but you cannot do this in a “tournament”, which has to be heavily regulated in terms of rules. The more rules are “technically” regulated, the less rules each particpiant has to learn and respect “virtually”; after all the reality of us humans is, that “rules” actually create borders, which we like to get close to (and sometimes hop over), instead of keeping us away from it, since we “do it honestly” anyway. It would be just natural, that it would end in debates, bad emotions, and lots of cheating (braking rules without being noticed), mostly unintendedly or even on purpose.
Look at the 1v1 in this tournament. It was said to be a “champions fight”, arguing, that both participiants take some ship able to fight another ship in dogfight style, like a Samurai stand-off. It ended in one party choosing it is about strategy and countering the ECM with a LRF, making it not just different roles, but different classes against each other, in a predetermined tie fight if the ECM doesnt lose his nerves and go in or vice versa.
Definitely, what was intended was some fierce dogfight of two ships rushing each other, but it resulted in both parties just trying to get out without too much risk.
It shows that, in a tournament setting, there have to be rules for such an occasion, because it was not about “who choses the ship to win from his deck”, but about “fighting it out”, so the rules have to be set so that it becomes what you expect, and create a risk-reward and fairly equal chances in both parties.
I am not complaining here (was funny to watch anyway, and its over), it just shows very well, also because it is such a simple setup, how the intended “what we could get” ends up in “what we actually do” if it is about winning a match or falling out of a tournament, so I think OpenSpace for now is out of the question.
It is definitely worth some kind of “event”, even with some goals and prices, even as part of a tournament, but it would not qualify as “tournament” itself;
It’s definitely worth presenting tho, just imagine “All Guards and Engineers” or just generally mass ship battles testing the engine to it’s limits; so it can even help see things we usually dont see much, while it definitely needs some aid by the devs to make it happen.
On another note, I think, commentary and casting has to be timed better with the players. The commentators should be seen as equally important as the participating teams. They should wait for each other and start the battle together. So I think, the mindset, which already tries to get players from both parties into the game, has to be extended to view the commentator if present, as a third player party, who also has to join and be ready.
To create a feel of promotion, on a bigger scale, even two-people commentaries come into mind. See how Blizzard took up Grubby after he fell out of tournament and just made him co-commentator of SC2 tournaments, for the rest of the games, so even taking opportunities in good players who already fell out, in interviews and similar.
I know, this is a lot to organize; in fact, kudos to all of you for what it already was; so not criticizing the existing, only mentioning other areas we can improve a lot, outside of the games themselves. We do not need more “gamemodes” to tourney in, rather, we need to present the tourney in a way, even players can watch, who didnt have much Star Conflict yet, or even are completely randomly watching the event.
Too bad twitch has no studio mode, where you can switch between casts in a metacast.
Because a tournament is not just about the teams fighting, it is also about it’s presentation, and while small tourneys are nice to exercise, the “real thing” also partly lives out of that feeling of taking part in something bigger, and actually promoting the game itself.
We joined the tourney mainly for these two reasons: having good games, and helping the event to become “bigger”.
Okay casting this wall of text just leveled me up, have to spend my talent points now.
The XofjSA and JPHack double commentating was awesome! I can’t remember which tournament it was, but they did really well together. COME BACK JP!!
