Ship: Prometheus (Class: Fighter)
Weapon: Heavy Plasma Cannon
Got to T3 today and found that the T3 starting fighter seems to have a bugged flight model, has anybody experienced this?
Basically when I activate “Overcharge” i can’t control the ship (Happened on my T2 fighter too), and also on T3 the aiming system isn’t twitch based anymore, it’s more like a conventional flight sim where I have to line up my aiming crosshair to the target ( crosshair position based on which direction my fighter is pointing at that point ) there’s very limited firing arch.
I just wanted to know is this how the developers designed this, or is it a bug?
As it is now when i drag the cursor to one direction then center it, the ship bobs back and forth a few times till it gets in alignment with the center. When I activate Overcharge and have full thrust the ship just moves all over the place out of control.
The Turrets have a forward arch of about 5 degrees ± so aiming with the cursor is basically useless.
This is a ping related issue from what I can discern. When I’m in a game with a high ping (Bring it up with F11), games with a ping 300+ start to wobble, Overdrive is unmanageable, 400+ is unable to fly properly. You can manage on 200, but the overdrive can still throw you around a bit. It isn’t a turret issue, since this happens specifically in high ping games, and I use Pulse lasers,

Got the exact same problem. T2 Deimos felt awesome and very agile while having great firepower. Now that i moved to Prometheus i find the fighter to be “heavy” as hell. Tracking targets is hell. Overcharge and you lose all ability to dogfight whit anything above “avarage”. The nose just fail to follow my mouse cursor. From what my buddys tell me that’s only happening to Empire players. So i got the feeling we got some bug going on. I’m using Pulse lasers.
Also for the suggestion about high ping - i never get above 100 ping … And even if i did - i often play T2 mixed whit T3 and i never have that problem whit my Deimos II.
I had a suspicion that the latency is the problem, but i wrote that off because i can fly my T1 ships perfectly, T2 less so, T3… well… It’s like what SilentFear said.
Good to hear it’s not only me, and yea some official response would be nice.

Considering the way the game handles the actual battle, you should see a rough variance of 100ms depending where you live. Press F11 to actually SEE what your ping is, because this is much more prevalent and worse for myself when I’m up at 400.
I have the SAME problem. My Deimos is fully operable and agile, but when I got to the Prometheus, it’s like if I had inertia when turning the ship with the cursor, it’s really annoying. It seems that it only does that to this ship so far. Bug for sure, not ping related since I always have 50~ ping.
When in Overdrive the ship becomes sluggy, I need to stay back to shoot correctly, and that is with normal guns.
I’m glad this sounds more like a bug than a “feature” though
Its got to be a bug because i get it on my prometheus 2 whenever im trying to make tight turns in overdrive. The nose of the ship starts rocking back and forth like a pendulum that i pulled to one side and let go. Its gotten bad enough that i just don’t fly it anymore, as dog fighting is almost impossible.
The overdrive is the problem, it increases the ships turning speed but (as far as I can deduce) not its acceleration, thus it can’t stop itself turning, so it just flails around. It affects all the empire ships, but the Prometheus is a particularly guilty culprit.
Arguably this is to stop overdrive being totally OP (I still think it’s miles better than the cloak or the adaptive shield), requiring a pilot to be more careful about their manoeuvres. It DOES seem more pronounced on online battles, suggesting it’s partly down to latency, but it still happens on the practice battles.
My advice is to hold down wither A or D to strafe, as it occupies the thrusters on one side of the ship so they are not constantly overcompensating. It brings the nose back in to line more quickly, although there’s still a short wiggle to deal with.
See i would not mind the ship nose wobbling if it’s only in overdrive - that’s fine and it’s good balancing mechanic - however in normal flyght mode it just makes it very hard to position yourself as you wish. That’s even worst when it come to sitting in the blind spot of a frig ship.
As for the latency - the whole time last night i had put on my ping meter on ( f11) and not once did i go above 50. I havent tested the practice flight to see if that will fix the ussie but i will do so. And if in fact this is latency issue - it looks like it’s server side problem.
Bottom line is - nose wobble is fine in overdrive but should not be there in normal flight mode.
I have been having this same problem with my Deimos 2 (tech 2)… Activate the overdrive and the ship is practically uncontrollable. It even has trouble flying in a straight line, to say nothing of making tight maneuvers. I am reverting to T1 for a couple of games to test this to see if the same problem happens in the lower tier, it is possible this was just a patch problem.
Edit: I seem to be having the problem even in tech 1. This is very frustrating, and if it continues I might have to switch to another faction of ships.
***i didn’t read the whole topic so please forgive me a possible double post***
the overdrive increases your steering by 66%
a tier 3 fighter has a better / faster steering than a t2 since it can rank up higher in synergy / is affected by more pilot tree skill / implants
=> your manouvering speed is too fast for the game to actually display it correctly - if you fly neck breaking manouvres while in normal control mode and with active overdrive…
this can be fixed by switching your ship control mode to expert because the camera will be locked behind your ship

I tried switching my control mode to expert and the end result was my fighter was ridiculously sluggish. I have the 30% rotation speed implant. The handling makes it feel like I’m flying a frigate now… this is utterly ridiculous. I don’t know if they nerfed the rotation speed or did something else to make the fighter controls so unresponsive, but it seems like this game went from beautiful dogfighting to awful xxxx controls overnight.
