Suggestion for the Bomb Planting Mode

I see this happens in the new bomb planting mode a few time: one team grabs both of the bombs (they already destroyed one target, so they are in a 1 : 0 lead), and they just flying around with those bombs instead of planting them on the remaining targets. They will do this all the way till the time is up. They just want to kill people instead of win the match fast. Perhaps they think this is fun, but the other team might think this is a waste of time.

 

I suggest there should be a time limit on the bomb. Once you pick it up, you have certain amount of time to plant it. If not, the bomb will blow up your ship. This should force the bomb carriers to do their jobs, instead of trolling around.

Sounds like a fair idea. When you hold the bomb suddenly your ship shows off loads of sparks, I imagine the bomb could just be an unstable prototype that, when placed near a power source (ship) for too long it detonates.

Interresting Idea. I already had this in mind playing the mode myslef. Destroy 1 Station and grab booth Bombs and hold them till time is up. Lets say the Bomb will short fuse itself if carried longer than 2 minutes. Thats more than enough Time to place it or steal it back.

Another idea for “Demolition mode”, make the time for planting the bomb longer. At least twice what it is now.

It is doable but often the carrier than just hides behind the spawn area for his/her team for the rest of the match, so they have infinite defense pretty much.

I’d consider that more of a tactic… Why is a tactic bad? I wouldn’t call it unbalanced either, consider it a mini commander mode. The Bomb carrier is the commander, destroy him to get the bomb back.

 

In-fact, I think holding it on your end of the map is a bad idea to begin with. What if you lose it? They are all that much closer to your beacons to plant it.

 

I honestly don’t think its unbalanced, or unfair. Its a tactic, one with flaws, but if done right, it works. Your job then as the enemy team, is to figure out how to compensate for their tactic…

You will not only need to destroy the bomb carrier, but also get the bomb out of there. Any tactic should have a counter which should be just as easy/hard to carry out as the tactic. In this case, you have a very easy and simple tactic which is hard to counter. Another reason is that while it is effective, it is not necessary fun to carry out and not fun to play against. Viable tactics should both be effective and fun to play with or the game can become rather dull to play.

I dont see a problem with how it is personally. Its no worse than an enemy captain hiding in their teams spawn the whole round (Which is also a legit tactic).

And sitting in one spot too long is just begging for a torpedo/cruise missile barrage. You don’t have to lug the bomb out, leave it “open” for long enough, it resets to the middle of the field, closer to you than the enemy. As Lady said, it’s all tactics and counter tactics, not simply fly around blindly and shoot everything that comes near (BTW would love a TDM version in Arcade). I’ve even seen an awesome 3 ship assasination by SKY, a frigate dropped a gate (?)/ Micro-warp right on top of the enemy captain and ripped him in under 3 sec. I don’t see why that can’t be used to kill a bomb carrier.

 

BTW, can a bomb carrier use Warp Gates? Never got a chance to try.
