I was in a 4-man squad. :yes_yes:
Ouch, dat matchmaking
But you won. Which kind of proves it works…no?
But you won. Which kind of proves it works…no?
Only because of the game mode. I had one ship; I intended to not lose it.
The game directly afterwards, similar teams, we were utterly annihilated because we couldn’t eliminate their ships from play.
It’s the combination of these two games that made me question the system. A loss is a loss and I’ll take it either way, but I’m left to wonder how the outcome would have turned out if my team was playing with equal tiered ships. It’s not exactly a healthy environment. I don’t know if there was something I could have done differently, given that I was in a rank 2 facing T3s.
In a T1 match you could vanquish your enemies with only your own squad most likely, but in T3 you get annihalated…It’s kind of hard to do it i suppose
In T2 you would probaly still get annihalated
like the pach and new loot sys is nice… hate plasma gun nerf. now my purple guns feels just like my old blue ones… iv had a great week with my epix plasma now u cut it again. RF blaster stilll have same dps and feels more epic now…why you toment me? ohh well why bother… hoping for a fix next week.
keep up the good work…whatever.
Actually, I dont get the punish-good-players-theme.
Really, is it just me, or do I feel betrayed that if I play good I will be punished, while if I play bad/mediocre I will not get penalized…

That’s in essence what matchmaking is supposed to do. You play well so you get matched against people who also play well, to give you a challenge.
Even if the current system is probably a bit too harsh and simply doesn’t have the player base to match fitting people in the same tier, you’re saying that what you want from this game is to faceroll pugs.
Winning is fun, but easy wins are only entertaining for so long.

I want to play against other skilled players. What I don’t want is to get rolled by someone simply because I am in a ship that is 2 tiers lower than theirs.

Then you find your own opponents manually. That’s what custom games are for. Automatic matchmaking is about finding you an approximately equal foe one way or the other.

LMFAO losing to someone simply because they have better Tech, more survivability, more modules, etc… is not an Equal Foe. I had no problem with the MM the way it was. When I was in my R9, full synergy ships I would sometimes fight T4 ships which is fine, but an R9 against a T5 ships is not going to be able to do much. Sure I might get a kill or two, but they can destroy me a lot faster than I can hurt them.

As someone who played R10 ships solo against R15 squads and held his own leveling three different trees, I disagree. And back then it didn’t match me against baddies as it does now, it matched me against R15 ESB kill squads.
Admittedly, I’m not the type to whine about “why don’t I get skilled people on my team”, I just view myself as that skilled guy and do the carrying whenever possible. I have a big ego and a proportional amount of skill to back it up though. And if my R10 solo could do fine against R15 ESB squads, you can put your big boy pants on and handle R12 baddies that matchmaker will hand your R9 ships to eat through. You’ll also fail a lot, but that’s the point of the system - to either match you against equally skilled people, or to match you against people who are worse than you but have better stuff.
I died a lot against ESB too, and that was perfectly fine. You’re not supposed to be the unkillable ubergod (obvious lolguard caveat here) because matchmaking didn’t take your skill in account as it happened before. Your win/loss ratio should be 50:50 regardless of skill, squadding or gear. Current matchmaking does that much better than ever before, which is why this type of matchmaking is so widely used.
Unless they’re guards, of course in which case you just avoid them because they are broken OP and generally not killable without massive team effort. Think of them like raid bosses and just don’t aggro them, and kite and run if you do aggro them.

good luck on that… custom games do not work at all, you have to wait forever! automatic matchmaking assumes that you can compensate for xxxx on your team while facing enemys 2 tiers higher? instead of getting skilled enemys i have to deal with xxxx, tier rushers who WILL make you fail realistc matches and on the other hand you are also out-teched.
why? because my w/l ratio is 2.7 and i got 1400 dsr and purple weapons. guess skill needed nerfing? lol…
edit: and w/l ratio of skilled players is higher because the game fails in matching good players vs. good players. it depends on HOW the game tries to archive 1.0 w/l ratio you know? does it challenge you with good enemys or does it just punish you with unfair matches?
I appreciate the voucher increase on contracts but why weren’t all contract vouchers increased? As far as I can see the only contracts that got a boost are the ones you can only do once a day and those only got doubled (3k instead of 1.5k). Either double the voucher amount for ALL contracts or boost the amount you get from the daily ones to something like 8-10k
If I wanted to fly vs T5, I would fly T5 ships (if I owned them).
If I wanted to fly vs T1, I would fly T1 ships.
I don’t want to be flying T3 solo and have half of my team wasting space in T1s, nor do I want to be farmed by T5 when flying in a squad.
If I am in T3, I want T3 on all sides of the conflict.
That. Is. Not. Hard.
Also, can’t help but notice no balance changes to the Guard…
[…]
General thoughts:
- A good T3 squad can hold its own vs T4.
[…]
So… yeah. T3 squads (3-4 man) vs T4 randoms (1-2 man) is okay
That was fast. And you’re straying from the common line of “give me back easy games when I’m in a squad with good players!”
Just gonna metion something no one is talking about, LOVE the new Coil Mortar
What you don’t realize is that kill shots in a 3v1 are best with high damage weapons and not DPS, and the game gives a bias to a kill shot. But, it is a little more fun now, same reason I like assault rails on a gunship, it just feels good. I’m not sure I prefer the new style. Before it was easier to hit a target with high damage. Now it takes more shots and that can be harder when your target’s hugging an asteroid.
Agreed.
On a slightly related note, I thought I’d leave this here.
Evidently teamwork is still massively important, but I couldn’t help but to go into that match thinking, “Yeah, this is kind of ridiculous.”

You knew the game, you knew the match style, and you got a fear me. In a lot of realistic matches, it ends up being over half of both teams wiped out for mistakes while the surviving players only die once or twice. Your team won by skill. But, you only had one ship available? WTF?! MM’s not perfect, it has no chance of getting close until there’s a much larger playerbase. A lot of it is just how to define skill beyond DSR, efficiency ratings, and w/l ratio.
Anyway, you know how to use an always on module, play engineer please! Also remember, for you to go against T3 with the current MM system, it has to be bad T3 pilots.
Interesting how matchmaking mechanics discussion started taking a 180 degree turn.
And the most stupid thing is, even if i squad with my brother (2man squad) with T1 ships, and ended fighting against T3’s, and miraculously maybe we win we get the same money as a T1 battle, same synergy too, which makes me very angry cause we have to be even more carefull, and fight a terribly unbalanced match to get a xxxx money at the end.

You have T1 repair bills and T1 consumable costs.

I would like to see income increases as well when placed against higher tiers.
If you have to fight T3, why not give the T3 income…
