You will always find a healer in every squad/team in any game. It is an unwritten law.
Liar. I’ve had a lot of moments where I took a lot of damage but got out alive only to find no engineer. The only options then: suicide, hide until the match is over, or wait to at least get shields back up and go back in. Engineers are rarer in realistic matches.
We’re also forgetting that in T2, some engies don’t have any mass heal modules for some obscure reason.
The number of engies fielded in a team also largely depends on the game mode. In detonation, an engie isn’t that useful. You can’t keep up with your inty allies that are carrying the bomb. But I’ll say it’s superb on the rare occasion where your bomb carrier flies a guard.
Now, where could those engineers have all gone to.
Ah yes. T3.

Oh look, beacon hunt!
Beacon hunt is frig ball land.
Luckyo, I know you don’t play T2 so let me fill you in.
Even after Engi’s lost their 5th and 6th turrets they were common in T2. Hydra 2’s in particular could tank well enough that they could fight most opponents 1v1.
Then healing ranges were nerfed, and engineer numbers fell. Mainly the weaker (read: Federation) frigates disappeared because now they were right up in the fray and were being torn to pieces.
Then range came back but healing dropped. Now those Hydra 2’s couldn’t tank any more, so they began to disappear. Federation Engineers learned that they were now too weak to survive a marauding Interceptor, so they left.
They did NOT move up into your happy little clique-laden Tier of choice. They stayed in Tier 2 and flew something else (I switched to Recon and never looked back) or they quit the game altogether.
This game is a pyramid. Tier 1 at the bottom, Tier 4 a the top. What people assume is you need to balance top down but this is false; T4 can be perfectly balanced and great fun to play, but if everyone gets pissed off at Tier 1 or 2 and leaves they’ll never see it.
T2 needs stronger healing back.
The Empire engineers should not be the engineer of choice. As in: the best T3 engy you can get should be a R9 fed frigate. Same with all the other classes.

lol, i have never seen that happen yet in captain. Then again, there is a quite easy counter to that

Successful counter? In T3? Without committing mass suicide in the process?

Oh yes, it only takes 1 person with the correct fit and role
I won’t tell you what though to keep it my little secret way of killing for a bit longer

You do that. After all, you’re the only one who has it, and clearly it has never been tested because someone would have seen it and copied it!
Heavy Weapons Gunship?
Dies long before it even dents a frigball to counter fire or just ends up shooting at barriers. That’s why ESB goes snipers against frigballs, it’s not a hard counter but at least you can dent them.

I hope to see a LRFrigball in the tourney xD 8 LRF or 7 LRF with a recon xD
I have absolutely no problem with an Engi Frigball, as long as they lack a Guard.

when there are 6 engies, and 12 drones, who needs a guard anyway.

nice, 6 hush hush with 1 nuke.

because engies totally can’t fly away from the nuke? o.O
On earlier conversation: I keep seeing 1-2 engies in T2 matches, and I usually have one handy myself lately for whenever it’s needed. I haven’t been playing a huge lot, but it seems rather balanced to me. You’ve got to be rather paranoid to not die immediately from focus-fire as soon as you get close to the fight (to try and support most of your teammates), but on the other hand engineers still seem very usefull to me for their team. When flying a ceptor or a fighter, I often find myself looking for the nearest engie to get back into shape. And I do (occasionnally) get help and support from my team when I’m an engie and am being rusehd by ceptors.
In short: I don’t feel like the latest changes were overkill for T2 engies, they seem rather fine to me…?
