Yes I have, and it’s a complete rip-off. The whole lot comes to around 140 Euros, which is insane money. The individual packs are all seriously over-costed, especially as of the six ships there’s only one that is really able to hold its own, and then at most two more that are alright if you have a good team at your back.
But moreover, the only good ship is a Tier 2 ship. Tier 2 is about as good as it’s ever going to get and didn’t need more ships. Tier 3 is a clusterfuck that some of us, foolishly, hoped the Pirate DLC might address.
But it doesn’t. They aren’t alpha-strikers who are going to smash the Frigball. They bring nothing new to the table, are under-powered or under-equipped pretty much across the board (with the exception of a single Rank 6 ship) and Gaijin is charging far too much for them.
To put it into perspective, let’s look at what DLC I can buy for the £60 pricetag the largest kit offers…
…Dragon Age: Origins: Awakening. That cost £40 on release and was an entire campaign. New map, new characters, new abilities, new equipment, higher level cap on characters and gear, new enemies and new plot. It was a self-contained game that let you carry over your old progress.
Disgaea 3’s “Everything” bundle. Again, about £40. It gives you new dungeons, a new campaign and an insane amount of characters who act as boss fights, and become playable when beaten. I never unlocked them all because, at a rough guess, it would take about 60-80 hours of grind to level up to the point you can take these guys on.
Compare that to what Gaijin is giving us. Three ships, two of which are lackluster and obsolete from the moment they hit the storefront, stickers (not exactly a high-cost item…), a custom title and credits. I’m sorry, but that’s a rip-off. For £60 I’d want all six ships, I’d want them all to be worth bringing, and I’d expect a lot more than just ten cosmetic stickers that take the art team five minutes to knock up. Frankly, for that money I’d expect to be able to reskin all my Empire / Federation ships into “pirate” colours!
