Hello,
Just watched the intro cinematic for the first time in a while, and I was noting how the Guard in that video showed amazing resilience and firepower in a certain series of moves. First, the Guard shifted a tremendous amount of energy to the “forward shield” and blocked the brunt of the attack. For the record, I do not really consider the guard special module to be THAT kind of forward shield. It increases resists to one type of damage, whearas the one featured in the cinematic seemed more powerful from the front of the ship, yet weak from the rear. Second, it seemed to perhaps retract its shield buffs/regen to power up its “turret mode” to then unleash a deadly counter-assault. These mechanics seem very interesting, and it is sad that what is featured in the intro cinematic does not exist in the game. Perhaps one must change, but this idea of “forward shields” seems really fun and dynamic. Jericho ships were known for their incredible weapons and shields, yet they yield much the same weapons as every ship and a broken shield system. Jericho ships can tank a huge amount of damage, no doubt, but the forward shield buff with a potential side effect of being vulnerable from behind might add some more dynamics to the game.
I could say more, but just watch the cinematic for yourselves and see how the guard is portrayed there versus what is actuality.
Cheers,
Engle
It looked like a Priest Bartle, LRF. It had also 6 cannons. Not sure if Guards ever had 6 cannons, I know Engineers used to.

Wait, what? How do you not know this? All frigates used to have 6 cannons. You can still see where two were removed on most of the ship models.
Then around the same patch where they restricted modules to specific class roles, they removed 2 from both Guards and Engineers.

When I joined the game Guards had only 4 weapons. And I don’t know if they have had 6 weapons at some point.
But I do remember Engineers having 6 cannons, and Guards 4. I’m pretty sure Engineers lost 2 weapons after guards.
Umm… there were no Jericho guards orginally. The original line of Jericho ships were LRFs with Guided Torpedos. The guards probably were introduced when I went inactive (which was also during the patch with constricted modules and weapons) as the phase shield belonged to commands initially.
2 words: Artistic License.
The video can do whatever it wants for the sake of looking cool, details or sense be damned.
Well, then let’s discuss the mechanic rather than the type of frigate. Let’s just say Jericho frigate, so large shields/resists/regen etc; what might the proposed mechanic look like? Impossible to take down jerichos? I feel like there might be a nice balance to it we haven’t seen yet.
Intro means almost nothing. It’s old as well and it the only thing this intro has in common is some similar models for T2 ships.
Main fact is, that it was made to draw people, who like that sort of thing. That’s all they had in mind anyway.

Ah yes, back during the days when all of the Federation fighters had the cloak module and Jericho fighters had the Adaptive Guard Shields. Those are bittersweet memories…
Long Range Lasers, you will be missed. Your Positron cousin just isn’t the same…
Ever wondered why the opening cinematic is set to off by default ?
It’s because they know it doesn’t reflect what happens in the game, and they don’t want to be accused of false advertising.
The opening cinematics of that guard frigate are just so unrepresentative of the real game, that it could be seen as misleading.
I have thought of starting a topic about this before, I just presumed it was comman knowledge that the cinemtic was not representative of the game, hence why it is switched off by default.
(When I started playing, and earned a Jerico frigate, I did wonder where my forward shield boost module would become available… after searching for some time, I gave up…)
Well, then, it should be changed because it’s preposterous to have such an old cinematic. Do they not have teams doing this kind of thing? I’m sure they’ve made enough money by now lol.

Mate, lots of games have a flashy intro cinematic to get the player excited. That used to be my favorite part about buying a new PC game, was that first time when the intro cinematic played and I just sat in my office chair, spine tingling as the audio/visual experience engulfed me.
That old intro cinematic also shows pulse lasers on a frigate that have to ‘reload’, which is preposterous. The video is all about setting the atmosphere, not showing detailed game mechanics.
Just enjoy it for what it is.
Take this video as an example. When I first watched this one, I could hardly contain my excitement. The mechanics in the video are clearly not the same as the game mechanics.
If they don’t want it to represent the game, then they should remove it entirely, it misrepresents what the game offers.

You sir, have entirely missed the point.
If you honestly think that this is more important than the developers working on bug fixes, game-balance, or fixing the misleading advertising in the online store page, then we are done here.

And you “Sir”, are over-reacting
Where did I say anything about the misleading cinematic being deleted, being more important that ANYTHING ? Anything at all ? (Please do take your time to point it out, do not add to your ignorance!)
I have always thought the opening cinematic was misleading, it was the first movie I saw when I firt heard about this game, I watched it on YouTube, before I even downloaded teh game to play.
Where did I say anything about the misleading cinematic being deleted, being more important that ANYTHING ? Anything at all ?
So if it’s not that important, why are you advocating its removal?
Someone would have to take the time to delete the code that plays the intro cinematic, and that someone would be a developer. And that developer would be taking time during their work day when they could be doing other things to sift through the database to find and delete the intro cinematic. Hence, one less programmer working on actual important features. So yes, you implied this is more important.
And as you pointed out, it’s on Youtube. Typing in “Star Conflict Trailer” pulls up several channels (mostly game news sites) that are not controlled by Gaijin that have this video up. So removing it from the game files wouldn’t solve the issue and make the video magically go away.
This doesn’t need to be fixed, as it is understood to be an artistic representation of the game’s universe. Not an “in-game footage” advertisement.
And in-case you are wondering, here’s a list of everything wrong with the trailer:
-
Empire ships using Chameleon
-
Empire fighter launching a cluster missile (not found in-game)
-
Jericho fighters and interceptors dying from 1 shot of plasma weapons
-
Guard frigate has 6 turrets
-
Guard frigate has long-range lasers (removed from game)
-
Lasers have to reload ammo
-
Guard is one-shotting all the other ships
-
The Jericho Guard is painted in Federation Vanguard colors
-
@1:14, Guard frigate is blowing up Jericho ships, in what was an Empire attack fleet
-
“All power to the front shields”
If anything, the feature most people are focusing on (the “all power to the front shields” bit) is closer in representation to the Guard frigate’s Modulating Shield module than most of the other stuff in the trailer.
Does octopus, firestorm, anniversary or spark missiles count as cluster?
Does octopus, firestorm, anniversary or spark missiles count as cluster?
If we’re being specific, no. Because in the video ALL of the missiles were fired at once, not in sequence.
If they can do it for War Thunder, and Star Conflict gets nothing, then xxxx Gaijin. Star Gem, find a new producer! We have the magical 1.0, make it history!
That trailer was very convincing… I think I will try out that game.
