We’re doomed.
to integrate the game into EA’s powerful, scalable server architecture
lol.
Guys, this is just a joke:)
Guys, this is just a joke:)

I’ve seen something about the dogfight in Star Cotizen and i was really upset…I know it’s too sonn… but they got tons of money…
Ok nice stuff, the hangar, avatar walking atround, great graphics… OMG… But waht abot fights, flying, and fighting in the space…? Add another skeptical in list…
Now guys u should have alook at this…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VE8B4KptyVI#t=152
Then let’s talk again about star citizen…
Wish dreadnaught battes in star Conflict would be somethng similar to taht lol

I will laugh out loud in case this will be the biggest scam in the history of video games.
They said they wanted to be bigger than EVE, and that would be indeed a way to do it.
PS: I think they will bring a nice game, and their marketing campaing is epic, but you know, sometimes…

the only reason i knew about elite dangerous was chris roberts showing it in one of his early casts, and giving the elite founder quite some screentime; as a hardcore elite fan (i played that on a C64 with tape recorder), and just a mediocre wing commander fan, i was overhappy.
so actually they got tons of promotions by star citizen since then; back then their backer numbers were quite low.
where you see competition, i actually see quite a big friendship
i think you can’t fly the big ships tho in elite

Isn’t Eve also a big marketing machine?

I was talking about marketing the game, not IN GAME XD.

exactly. still… i can hear the amarr implants talking to me…
i can still feel the brainwash! also they do have advertisements now everywhere (fb, and stuff)
citizen does a bit too much startup-talk for me atm, watched their latest dogfight video to see some footage, but it’s very small and short (even if it looks like i wanna see more). always fun to see team troyka give some statement in this build the next gen starship thing, our brave russian star citizen designer team is now kinda the underdog there
but they made it to the last 12 teams…
and to give elite big credit: those lasers. those AWESOME lasers… burning a line into the enemy hull…
Ok, I have done it. I have pledged to the game. Shame on me, but it really, really begins to look awesome.
So now I can admire my own Origin jumpworks 300i in the hangar module. Hopefully in a month or so I will be testing the alpha dogfighting module.
More space pew pew :bomber:
Ok, I have done it. I have pledged to the game. Shame on me,
Hope you’ll enjoy it.
I may end up buying this game depending on what really gets released a year but for now it’s a question of principle for me not to. Back in the day you’d get a rebate for pre-ordering and free stuff for helping with alpha/beta testing. These days you have to pay for (pre-)alpha testing and everything is more expensive for you if you do. At least I should hope that the released game will be cheaper than the current 15.000 USD to pre-order all 14 ships…
Same reason that I’m not dropping money on Star Conflict with Steam prices 30% cheaper than Gaijin store prices and me not playing through Steam. I don’t like feeling scammed.
Hope you’ll enjoy it.

Well, I see my pledge as an investment. I’m going to buy the game hands down, and the full game was said to cost at least 60 € on release, so buying it now is cheaper for me (46 €) and I have access to the development stage. I’m not going to pledge more ships or so. In fact I was considering of buying the smallest package with alpha access (29 €) but at the end, I paid a little bit more for having the ship I want instead of the small ugly starter one.
That is the reason of the “shame on me” in my first statement XD.
Oh they’re not pulling the usual USD = EUR scam? That’s something at least. And as long as you end up feeling you’re getting your money’s worth out of it there’s no shame involved. Hope the game will live up to your expectations. I saw the dogfight module ingame scenes from the PAX presentation and it reminded me how much I miss that Newtonian flight model…

Euro payments are only available thought paypal, and yes, they have different numbers for euro and $$ packages. You can pay in dollars with Credit card, saving some good money (65$ => 46 € for a 52€ pack)
Yes, the PAX presentation was great, even with all the bugs, crashes and stuff like that that you have to expect from an alpha build.
Just watching the PAX stuff, and damn Americans and their fetish for controllers. Also, the ship movement looks nothing like real physics. I guess they realized it’s unplayable with the real stuff.
Imagining the huge effort of moving to double precision:
- typedef float FloatingPointNumberUsedEverywhere;
- typedef double FloatingPointNumberUsedEverywhere;
Yeah, i know it’s not so easy, but still, there should be only a handful of places that directly and naively depends on the 32 bit type. Also, who uses floating point numbers in 2014?

float and double are both floating point types. And I use float where it’s appropriate. Uses less memory than double and runs certain math faster.

I know it perfectly well, the question is, why use floating point numbers when you can use fixed point ones too? With fp you lose precision the bigger or smaller the numbers get. With fixed point you have a certain precision that is set. You usually know what precision you will need in your game, and having more in some ranges is a waste, and having less is… well, loss of precision. Fixed point numbers are even faster on some operation (like adding and subtracting are simple integer operations).

You use floating point math because it is usually easier to use, the precision is more than sufficient and you end up being able to perform certain operations faster since they are natively implemented in the FPU’s instruction set. In case of simple integer operations you do typically use integer types if those are the only operations you are likely to perform on those values, but type casting back and forth would be too expensive.
But let’s get back to Star Citizen.
