Star Citizen

So… just 1 and a half years to go huh?  Seems like I’ve been waiting forever lol…

Anyone else psyched for this game?  There’s probably already a forum on this, it looks promising on paper tbh :stuck_out_tongue:

Already donated 200 dollars…

Im practically counting the days.

I have no words that can describe the awesomeness of this game.

It’s an extremely ambitious project. I’ve never seen so much hype for and development of a game, nor have I seen a developer tap into the zeitgeist of modern PC gaming as well as they did. Based on what they are releasing so far, they basically took EVE Online, made it first person, shoved a joystick in your hand and said “I hope you understand Newtonian physics, pilot. You’re going to need it.”

That said, a lot can happen in a year and a half. Make sure your expectations are properly managed.

They also have a ton of funding, not even a year since the kickstarter started, they have 10 million from players… that’s a lot of funding, not tied to a large company/backer etc.  I’m hoping it will go well, I bought the constellation ($275 value) which I normally don’t pay over $100 for a single game lol.  But yeah, a few things worry me about this game such as how the instancing works… Yes I know instancing is required for server limitations, but just how from getting from point A to point B you have “random encounters based on levels/load out”  so basically a loner won’t be able to come across 2 people… This takes away the diversity imo, but on the other hand you won’t be getting griefed by 30+ ships.  I only hope that the instancing will end up having large variation, such as how a loner can come across 3 people, but not 30.

I agree that this company has a lot of backing and support from many thousands of people and is highly expected (even worshiped), but keep your expectations reined in anyway. A year and a half is still a long time and many things can happen. Don’t forget Duke Nukem Forever.

Pre-Alpha version of hangar module is available for download, you get to see hangar and your ship(s).

Will it be free to play and on mac?

Will it be free to play and on mac?

Yep, you will have to buy the game (60 $ unofficially when they release it) also now (pre) you can buy some of the packs(pledge) for 30-40$ which will give you alpha/cbt access to the game + one ship. Ye, both Mac and Linux :)wt

Could be nice if someone post pics of their ships and hangar if they have one.

Hmmmm… I might do that

Some cool videos of the hangar, ships, weapons…etc:

Another interesting game to look at is elite:dangerous, same type as star citizen.

Also crowd funded and in early alpha but dogfighting module is avaliable to download.

I’ll update and grab some footage for you.

Game will be great, but I dont like that I need to have powerfull comp to even walk in hangar. Gameplay > graphics.

Sad to say that I have to save up buying a new PC instead of the new consoles just for this game.

But one asks, when the game comes out, what will happen to the player base of Star Conflict?

I don’t think they are the same games. Star conflict is an arcade, is just fit and play, and it is free.

Star Citizen will be a retail game, and it will be a Sim.

Also, not everyone will be capable of affording the minimum specs for that game, while SC can be run in almost any decent hardware.

I’ve seen nothing that indicates that Star Citizen will offer any PVP experience comparable to Star Conflict so if anybody stops playing Star Conflict for Star Citizen they were probably just here for the PVE gameplay anyway and you will not exactly feel their loss.

Why do I see that as a very good thing? *Bazinga!*

I sure hope that you guys are right, and the game comes out awesome, but i believe that high expectations tend to ruin the game. Not that the game is ruined itself, but basically i think the game will be only half as good as everyone thinks it will be. And that battles will be kinda boring, and there will be lots of complaints about the game at its start.

Like that game from the creator of Doom some years ago (maybe a decade), i think it was called nirvana or something. Everybody was blabering about the game, how awesome it would become, that the AI would be awesome, that everything would be awesome. The game was lauched and was a fiasco.

Just dont get your hopes to high or you may get disapointed.

Nevertheless, it would be a game with prob low population (i mean, will never achiev Eve online parameters or world of warcraft’s in terms of number of players) since the system requirements are VERY high for the vast majority of the gaming comunity, so…
