So I had some free time today, and was thinking of a way to get more squads out there in order to get matches faster while in squads. For this, I was thinking that there could be another tab for an option for a squad finder list. The goal of the squad finder list would be to allow for any player, with or without a corporation, to be able to easily squad up with other players. It would also allow corporations a way to find new recruits willing to participate in team play.
The way the new squad finder tab would work is very similar to custom rooms. There would be a drop down menu where pilots could select the tier of the squad they are interested in looking for. In this selection, pilots would be able to either create or join squads.
Squads created and waiting for more pilots would appear in an “Available Squads” list which would have the each of the pilot’s name/corporation, the user imputed squad name, the symbols of the ship classes that they have in their line up, and an optional description that the leader of the squad could enter. Any player with the same tier level can join the open squad and the ease of use would allow for greater numbers of pilots in squads.
When creating a squad, the pilot can choose if he or she wants the squad to be public or private. Private squads will not appear in the “Available Squads” list. Players can still be invited to any squad (Private or Public) as they are currently. When hosting the squad, there will be an additional option for the squad leader to enter the squad’s name (no foul language allowed) as well as enter a brief description to appear in the “Available Squads” list. There would also be an update button that would refresh the inputted information of the squad.
Once in a squad, the same squad layout and mechanics that currently exist will still remain with the addition of seeing icons of the ships that each pilot is bringing (as well as the additional options that the squad leader has). Also, if there is a pilot that the squad leader doesn’t want in the squad, and they keep returning after several kicks, the leader of the squad can ignore the pilot which will not allow him to join the squad anymore.
In addition, for being in a squad, pilots should be rewarded with not having to pay repair costs after battle. (if not that then a very small credit and synergy bonus). Having this feature with these bonuses will greatly increase the number of pilots in squads and result in better team-play and hopefully greater players in game. I’d also like to see the in game voice chat reworked to apply to squad mates so that players without external voice chat options would have a better way to communicate.

This is the real question: without voice comms, what good are squads except as farms for squads with comms? 2 or 3 randoms put together without voice comms don’t make a “real” squad and don’t have more chances against a well organized squad than the same amount of random players. So, this is the main issue with this proposal.
However, I’m not well versed in tha APIs available with the most common voice tools and how that could be made to work.
Being in a squad highlights your squad mates in green and gives you an indicator of their health. That is an advantage over being out solo. I also suggested in the post that in game voice chat would be reworked so that it will work very well for squads (the part you bolded). The devs already have voice coms implemented in the game… but needs refinement. And even if the “random squads” don’t use voice comms, they will still attempt to work together, even if not effectively at first. But its the notion of them trying to work together and team play more so there are better and bigger fights instead of random ships trickling into a massacre.

Be honest, using the game chat to search for squad members is a mess. Even if this needed a decent amount of resources it would increase a lot the activity of the game, specially the squad activity.
There is literally no reason to not implement this, just laziness. And no offense intended. We need social features like this one.
I agree that using in game chat to try and find squads is pretty… bleh. Too many trolls and white noise going on. But I understand that the Devs are working primarily on dreads ect… which is fine with me, but would love to see it in the future once they have more time on their hands.

Did you mean more population in the game in general?
Game chat is meant to communicate to things related with Star Conflict, or if you need to ask for any help or advice.

In order to create something you need designers, coders, testers and other resources.
Right now we are focussing on the next major update so these resources are not available. Therefore it is better to stick on the chat for squad search at the moment.

I understand. You meant to say, that it’s not a priority right now, but it might be later in the future.
