Sniper = 850+ dps, surely OP?

i agree it not hard to dodge as a interceptor, but they no counter for fighters and frigs.

 

and lets be honest, is it fair for 66% of team to hide behind a rock while they wait for few interceptors to HOPEFULLY find the sniper and kill it which in a good team will be well defended, so interceptor has no chance… and if its arcade god forbid it be back again soon.

IDK how people think the laser is better than the Torp.  Torp can be fired around corners, has a fantastic travel time, does not need LOS, Premature Detonation to blow it up in the optimal spot and has a massive AOE.

 

It’s much harder to get sniped in a dogfight than it is to be blasted by torps.  Dogfight and if they’re Jericho frig heavy, watch the participants eat 1-3 torps and all explode, during the dogfight.

If the enemy has three Jericho frigates that are torpedo happy they probably already lost the battle. Their travel time isn’t as great as you think, that said when launching they leave themselves open to attacks and enemies closing the distance. If you see one flying from someone you have an opening. At the same time during the long travel time of torpedoes (don’t kid yourself they’re NOT fast) they could do MUCH more damage with conventional weapons, it’s more of a niche weapons, anyone that spams them is asking for a loss as they aren’t properly contributing to their team.

I think the ‘snipers’ are balanced. Few pointers as why i think so:

 

  1. They deal only thermal damage. If you find their damage to be problem for you, you can just stack thermal resistances.

  2. Empire requires line of sight, Jericho torpedos can be shot down by missile defense systems.

  3. Neither can move while shooting as well as got limited view on the battlefield while doing so.

  4. Their dps or ‘volley’ damage is not that high either.

  - Fighter with 4 turret points and T2 rapid-fire plasma does 4*350dps = 1400 DPS

  - I’ve seen as high as 5k hits from fully charged Hail Plasmas on my T2 frigate (6 turret points). 

 

Yes, sniper got the range, but in the OP’s scenario that 850 DPS requires that every shot hits you, which they wont if you know how to fly, really. Don’t fly in straight line or be predictable.

 

And before anyone says it, i play federation frigates so i’m not trying to ‘defend my ship’.

 

 

don’t think thats true, if it was then tool tips are wrong, the number turrets seems to be just a visual thing, interceptors do as much damage as frigs, it just frigs have more life

 

I’m quite sure that is not the case.

Because long range lasers list ~200 dmg (190 dps) in tooltip and on a frigate with 6 turret points i see hits of  about ~1200 dmg. Also if that wasn’t the case, how would you explain the high dmg that my T2 mk3 hail plasmas do, while tooltip only lists 195 damage (210 dps) for them? Yet i’ve seen fully charged shots do 5k damage, and non-charged shots do about 1500 dmg?

Don’t fly in straight line or be predictable.

 

 

Here is the thing a lot of people have still hard time to understand. Unless you are driving an Interceptor, you are not dodging the sniper, it’s just him who is bad enougth to miss you.

 

No, you are not good because he miss his shots, and yes, you are just lucky cauz he apear to be bad.

As you said, there is braindead ppl unable to read, like you actually.

 

In theses 10,000 answer, there are not even one argument at least relevant.

 

And your comparisons with mmorpg is maybe out of range, or maybe just purely idiotic, you can choose whatever you like here.

 

 

Because I am a gentleman, I will remember to you than high tiers are not a fix, and do not change the gameplay flaw in tiers I and II induced by snipers frigates.

 

You will be very kind to notice that if this game is divided in large Tiers, like world of tanks obviously, that is not in the only purpose to play the only last one. Actually all tiers have a different gameplay, and most important, very differents design of nices ships. So there is a lot of ppl which have fun to keep playing with some particulars one in early tiers.

 

Moreover, the evident superiority of snipers, and their logical bad impact on gameplay, doesnt help any new players to fully apreciate this game.

I’m actuallly all for the Aces quitting early. Makes the game a nicer place at the higher levels. And yes, I differentiate between newbies and Aces. I was T1 too before, you don’t hear me complaining. Aces are more like those who refuse to learn and want everything handed to them on a platter, with a butler to feed them too. If I was really mean, I’d be calling them nancy boys. Learn to live, live to learn.
