In real life, missiles have to go a certain distance before they’ll arm, primarily to avoid catching their own plane in the blast or to avoid accidentally locking onto the fighter that launched them. In Star Conflict, however, missiles arm the second they leave your ship. While that’s okay for gameplay balance, it does require a bit of suspension of disbelief.
However, I was thinking about how adding in a new missile type that has a minimum range could be a neat addition. These could be good for long range, having good speed and decent turning capability, but can’t be used within, say, 1,000-1,500 meters of the target. So against an interceptor that’s dogfighting or circling you, it’s useless, but against that sniping LR frigate it’d be great.
I know the Doomsday missiles kinda work in this capacity due to being sluggish, but you can still hit someone at melee range if you’re within touching distance. This missile would be the kind that simply bounces off the target if it hasn’t traveled far enough.
Just an idea.
