Ship Stickers: Remastered

1: Porn, I’d try it just to see if I’d get banned(hopefully temporary).

2: Showing pride

2A: Squadmates vs teammates, I say no.

3: What’s my fragile sticker give me?  I’ve bought it just so after I get an enemy kill, the person has to look at my fragile sticker!

4: Sharing for credit has legal liability, I doubt it’ll happen, and I hope the devs focus on more important things.  Sharing for free is another story.

Until the patch, I was only able to really see other’s stickers after they’d kill me.  Who’s getting that close to the enemy trying to kill them and goes “hey, that’s a nice sticker!  I want one!” instead of focusing on their hud and the kill?

Your gonna have to explain better, I have NO idea what you are talking about…

Thats why i want to paint my entire ship xd

Stickers are just… small simple logos that denote… no idea what. Corps dont have unique representing ones, where they should, and they are too small to be noticed until a death cam. Well, about small, most times you don’t even have a proper view of the ships unless you kiss their hull, just a display of box brackets and a shadow of the ship.

I would SO paint my ship to make it look like a race car…and maybe even make my own symbols. I foresee a huge system like forza motorsport with super custom paint work that are sold in the millions…

Your gonna have to explain better, I have NO idea what you are talking about…

If people design their own stickers, they’re going to add in a lot of offensive stuff.  Even if it’s approved by people, which is expensive, you won’t catch everything.  Did you know 88 is racist?  The number refers to the alphabet, HH, Heil Hitler.  Want to bet someone, sometime, will use it?  Want to bet it will be missed by people moderating?  Porn was just an obvious example.  People will take pictures of their xxxx and try to put it on their frigates.

Corp stickers wouldn’t be an issue really, it’s really just showing pride in your corporation.

If people are marked differently in battle, it will help create an atmosphere that when you’re a loner on a team with a squad, the squad won’t care about you because the squad will focus on itself.  If squads were only squad vs squad, it’d be ok.  Sersiouly, if you’re on a corp squad, you see a teammate getting attacked nearby, are you going to help, or let him die?  If you can look at the color to know the difference, will it affect your judgement?

If stickers give a benefit, what kind of benefit do they give?  Is it sticker specific?  Can you buy dozens of stickers for shield immunity, or limited to one?  You’re talking about it like a booster module, but is it permanent for a permanent sticker?  Decoration is fine for me, counting it like a booster module would complicate things a lot.  The game already has booster modules, and I think mixing it with stickers would complicate things.  What if the benefit you want is from a sticker you don’t like?

Designing paint jobs and stickers can turn into an app store.  What happens if the sticker’s removed?  Are refunds given?  Can star gem be sued?  Although it initially sounds like a good idea, the legal complications would outweigh the profit possibilities.

My spartan answer failed.  I tried to keep the paragraphs matched up.  I hope this helps explain my view.

Hence why we have a report system and we have hard core moderatiors for that. I doubt it will be a problem.

Yeah, I get you.

Actually squads already only care about each other. thats a given. though stickers, lets say corp stickers, are visible only even with out being a squad, it will enable people to differentiate who needs help.

I can see your point. It would add unnecessary complexity to the game.

Well the system in Forza is the Design is always with you. It cannot be removed and is specific to the ship. You buy designs with normal credits and you only pay real money to use the system as a one time fee.

Yeah, I need detailed stuff. I’m a designer by trade and I need details!

This is why i belive only option 2 would would be a decent idea.

Since each sticker you apply has to be a texture in the game on your ship model, you have to either distribute them each patch to all clients, or create some way to build the model cache, which again could make additional loading times, or errors, so a custom sticker per pilot would have also technical issues to get around.

Corporations do cost money, so trolling with stickers could be expensive, why this might be a good idea. Again, however, the texture problem has to be solved. It does work in Arma games, where the logo must be a 3d file you generate with one of their tools, and your clan is a xml file somewhere with linking to that picture, and that picture is on every car you get into. I don’t know if this technique has influence on performance. Of course in SC it should be either a web based service or ingame.

Creating logos out of “smaller parts” of logos works well in NFS Online on your cars, or in Eve’s corporation logo designer, D3 banner creator, GW1 clan logo designer. It has the upside of a limited set of pictures, which do not have to be distributed further and combine into a new picture, just by 3-5 individual layers which can have different hues applied, and has also the upside, of not so creative people being able to design their own logos. I think such a system would even work “per pilot” pretty well, as an alternative to preselected logos, or a corporation logo, so I would simply implement ALL OF THIS :D

I would not want stickers to have effects, tho, I’d rather see more depth into the fitting system.

Thats a WIN. That is an explanation of the fine details WIN

as per another user’s comment, custom stickers will slightly increase loading/patching times, but i don’t think it’ll affetc the game all that much. can think of countless games that do this and run just fine.

however, i think the real problem with decals, colours and cosmetics in general is that there is no PERM option.

option 2a: no, a squad system should be implemented separately, otherwise it will be very limited. ie: cannot change squads without re-equipping a sticker, etc… also other must own the same sticker… etcetcetc… problematic to say the least.

option 3: NO UNIQUE STATS… this smells of WoT camos already… P2W.

option 4: NO IN-GAME TRANSACTIONS. we don’t need a gambling house aka auction house. a game is a game, not a financial tool. keep it that way.

Checkbox voting, ALL CHECKBOXES CHECKED!

I voted 1 because it would be easy if the corp want its member to fly with its logo to share it on the corp forum so every member can use it. So it combine options 1 and 2.

But as said before, the stickers are different files that needs to be on everyone’s computer or downloaded at every game loading… could be problematic.

About the colours, you should be able to chose from a hue/sat/lum chart as in Homeworld 2. An RGB value is much lighter than a custom sticker ;) And I see it more like a paint job than a price for each colour. If you paint your ship with any number of colours it cost the price of a paint job, and it should be lower than it is atm.

Someone in the patch comment tread was comparing the price to the lol skins, but lol skins are permanent once you get them, EVEN if you switch to another one. And also those lol skins are no more simple recolour, but different designs and some have improved 3d model and specific animations and particles. Here we have for now basic colour change with not much decent color choice.

So at a lower and fixed price for a paint job, and with as much choice as we see in this Homeworld 2 example, with the possibility to enter an RGB value for sharing corp colours it would be more appealing, to me at least

Maybe the corp colours could be available in a drop down menu at lower cost, or credit cost, since if a corp ask for its member to show its colours, they should not ask them to pay real money for something that not all members necessarily want.

Edit: I just remembered Dawn of War that used a similar system as Homeworld! and god knows how many badges and banners I created lol and those badges and banners were visible to everyone in online games if they wanted!

Now those who want their Pink ships could get it lol… and be easier to target :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Im a Homeworld Addict. Thus, you have received my approval and trust. YOU WIN.

I like 2, but if the idea of 4, where the corp could make custom colours for the player. That would be cool… however the members of a corp should have the option to place the corp design on their ship or not… so that individuality still remains.

Otherwise the 2a… i don’t mind, but i don’t care either…

Option 1 is a bit boring… and 3 would be really bad for balancing!!!
