Also how will ship role change affect gold/dlc ships? People (including me) bought certain ships because of their ship bonuses and special modules, and won’t be happy if it changes to be completely different from the reason they bought those for.
I think this will haooen too. My problem now is that the special habilities make a race different from the other. If they do this, then all races will be the same?
There are many things they can do to make the races different of than just stylistically. We know that each race has different ship characteristics, like empire having more hull and less shields, fed has more speed and energy regen, and Jericho has higher shields and less hull. Each race also has a different amount of ships per role, like the empire has 8 command ships while the feds have 5 and Jericho only 4. This could change of course. But there could be better versions of your preferred role in a different race. They could also make some of the ship bonus characteristics of each race, like mabye +100% range to command modules is an empire specialty, while the other races can only get a +60-80% range bonus. There are lots of ways they can go, it might take some time to see them all. It is beta, and I understand they are doing their best.
I see a lot of people worried about all the races being the same, but I feel that if they make the special ‘F’ abilities of each race in the abilities you get based on the role of your ship you have a lot more options in the race you pick. I started as the Federation because I love speed and nimbleness, but switched to Empire to get Overdrive because it’s amazing imo. Each has its own special benefit and they are all situational. I now play Jericho because I want to try the phase shield, get some of the awesome implants, and see how the inty ability works. If all the special abilities were per role and not race, I could have explored these other abilities without having to change race. I see this as giving us way more options in the race we pick. And thus making a much better game. If the special abilities go per role I might just switch back to fed lol. I like it, I hope that’s what they do. And with the announcement of adding a new special ability diffusion shield and with them potentially removing the sub faction versions of special abilities by saying that all special modules will be used in their basic versions, it seem more and more likely they are moving in this direction.
Comand ship is to survive the front line buffing the allies with shield res, hull res etc.
Want do a lot of damage? use a gunship! want be durable? use a comand ship!!!
Whant be OP with firepower+high durabilit and speed? No more :yes_yes:
ps: My covert ops interceptor have no more a stasis and i not complaing, i think this is good to make player divesify their builds instead hae a stasis as a must have

It doesn’t diversify builds, it makes ships with certain roles useless or useful in 1 of the many game modes.
I don’t like it because the different faction no are no longer that different. I wish that the faction all had there own special module that no other nation has.
Is it just me that finds it slightly ironic that the image of a Engineering Frigate is a Jericho ship, and Jericho has exactly 0 Engineering Frigates in the ship tree?
Hmm, someone can tell me what guard frig do in battle (T3 frig)??
For yesterday dmg nerf i say ok, this is guard frig…so the guard must protect the party from missiles(missile shield module), lower the dmg receive (there is a module but i dont remember) and block afterburners—there is no more modules for protecting the party and if i put this modules in my guard frig then i dont have space even for any shield booster which is important if i must stay in battle…
So in my T3 guard frig i can only put this 3 modules and fly for team, being an easy target without the survival modules(dont have space for them) and maneuver…oh and i forgot that i can puff puff with my nerfed dmg some
I’m right??
if yes then this is not a game where i can fly big ships and fight with others big ships (like i want when i start to play SC) dont interested in flying int and fighters cause it requaire the reflex i dont have.
Or again, always want to play a game where i fly in space in big ships and shoot other big ships is the right game for me??

You have 8-16 players per team, so there will always be more then 1 frigate in battle and you won’t need to pick every module.

I know that i dont need to pick every of the guard module (way of being help for the team) but there is no need in picking others because they support “attacker” way of play in guard frig (bad idea cause of nerfed DMG)…“attacker” way for guard frig is a bad idea, no manouver, little puff puff dmg

Guard frigate has still 4 turrets, same as a normal fighters. You still deal enough damage to hurt the enemy and for fast ships you still have your slow field.
Even with the slow field, some ships can still easily out maneuver the guard ship. Why not make it so that its turrets have a wider firing arc? So that the four turrets can cover most if not all of the sides of the ship. Excluding the above and below the vessel.
I have to just say I LOVE the new patch and content!!! It has made the game so much more fun for me. I like the fact that there are only two of each role per faction! I think it really helps define each race, I know people really liked having special racial abilities, but I honestly like this better as it’s way more balanced imo.
And yes they changed a lot and I think steam users got a blindsided by this. I think they need to add a news section to the log in part.
i just got into T3 with a katana command fighter, put energy regen and enery capacitor modules and convert damage to enery modules on it…it still feels underpowered…the hull and shield and valkyrie buffs just don;t feel like they do much for the team at all, and i have no killing power. Sure Diffusion shield is OK…but when ganged up on, they still shoot right through it and blow me up. I have no resists or shield buff modules to make up for all i spent into buffing my energy Diffusion…I’m disappointed.

You can -hurt- ships all day, but if they’re killing you instead… well then I guess being able to hurt them is essentially pointless for you. Until you base scoring on dmg done instead of just kill/assist, those ships unable to kill their opponents will require twice the work of others that can. I realize not all ships have the same issues due to specific stats, even amoung ships in the same roles, but you do have several that are foundering across several tiers an races.
You have 8-16 players per team, so there will always be more then 1 frigate in battle and you won’t need to pick every module.
Granted, but having that many on team doesn’t guarantee the teamwork that is becoming more an more necessary to make some of these ships viable contributors. Go fly engy, or sniper frig in T1 for a while. Let me know how much focused teamwork you get. In my day to day battles, very little aside from luck that’s as random as your team members, unless you set up a squad of experienced pilots.
I just started playing and the roles seems kind of fitting. The idea of one ship doing it all, is just laughable. I have played a lot of games and never seen one ship be able to do everything, that is kind of the point if you made a real do everything ship it would have to be the size of a capital ship and yet again trade strengths for weaknesses. Ever see a real life navy, or army, they specialize, from the big bad retired battleships, to the lonely grunt in a foxhole. I enjoy pulling out my frigate that heals shields in captain matches and assisting the captains defense, I like swapping to a gun ship or something faster to hunt down that sniper on the other side of the map; although that was resolved when I got cruise missiles on my frigates a tiny bit.
Now if you are scared of no teamwork, well do these steps right now. Unplug your modem, stomp it into little pieces, uninstall every game you own that lets you play with more then 4 people, then call your ISP and start your new job of trying to get them to refund you for all the years you lived in the hopes that you would never have to group up, or invite friends to play an MMO. Seriously the number one reason I move on to a new game is lack of people to play with, its a constant variable in any game with more then 4 players and no single player mode.
In the first page some one compared this to SWG terms, what they didn’t tell you is NGE was actually more popular then the original, which was only great to people who thought it was a hang out for them and a couple of friends who liked being able to do anything. When you could do everything on one toon that game was rude as hell, every one had tight nit groups like it was high school all over again, and they gave new players hell, and refused to acknowledge them. Why would they need fresh blood? They had 3 friends that could do it all, they didn’t need a full group to pvp, just 3 oped characters to face stomp new players who thought they could pvp with them. Meanwhile as SWG found out thanks to WoW stealing their customers who got bored of being gods, letting you form do it all super teams of 2 or 3 people led to horrid profits since lets face it either you grind to that status get bored or rage quit your first week. I for one welcome strategy, even if I have to add variables for PUGers, and yes you can do it, I made charactors in WOW who specialized in PUGing.
