Shield Booster functionality

I was recently contemplating more effective use for the “shield booster” when I thought, “Hey! It says ‘Booster’! Why doesn’t it boost shields??”

So I was thinking, why not change it so that it increases shield VOLUME, and fill it? So it would work like this:

Scenario #1:

1)The subject ship has 10,000 shield points with no damage done and activates the shield booster.

2)The subject ship now has 12,000 shield points and no damage done.

Scenario #2:

1)The subject ship has 10,000 shield points and only 8,000 remain due to damage. He activates the shield booster.

2)The subject ship now has 12,000 shield points with 10,000 remaining due to previous damage.

Scenario #3:

1)The subject ship uses the booster with damage to his shields, that brings the shield charge back to the number of the old maximum capacity.

2)The booster wears off and the subject ship is left at maximum shield capacity.

The extra volume would only last for a set about of time though, to prevent abuse like the old drones. The numbers, of course, are only examples, but they serve to explain my edit.

And questions please feel free to ask if I was not detailed enough.

So basically, what I’m hearing is that you want a buffer on the shield booster so that you can use it while your shields are still mostly full and not waste it. Is that right?

I mean, I don’t see why this is a bad idea, I just don’t see why it’s a good idea, either.

Yeah sorta. If it’s gonnastay the way it is, a name change to something like “shield charger” or something is in order. Cuz it sure as hell doesn’t “boost” anything the way it is now. XD

Absolutely not. These mechanics are pointless.  The shield booster does exactly what it says, it boosts them over time. Ofc it depends which ship you fly, but most shield boosters are generous with how much is repaired.

A better idea would be to switch the mechanics of the repair kit and shield booster, so that instead of shield taking 8 or so seconds to recharge, and hull taking just 2 or so seconds, they are reversed.  To me it makes much more sense to be done this way, since shields are not physical and can “more easily” be repaired.  Imo this is a much better option than your suggestion.

But that’s a nerf to hull heal and buff to shield heal – you don’t want shield heal to be better in volume, cooldown, and speed all at the same time. It’s fine as is, honestly.

As mentioned by the other posters already, the module already does what it needs to do. Your suggestion would only be to change the display of the effect.

And as mentioned by Administrator Error, it has been fixed.
