Any time!
This is not an offensive build but the standard for Diffusion Shield Tanking. If you want an offensive build I would do like what I do with the Katana S (if you search in the first pages of this thread you will find it). Just change the energy regeneration modules for Iridium Heatsinks to have a faster Assault Railgun. You could also change the strafe speed Engine for a Shared Cooler. For the shield just put Thermal resistance instead of the Compact Shield Generator. But I would keep the Passive Armor for regeneration because the 3 Heatsinks will leave you with your base energy regeneration which isnt THAT good.
Thanks for help!
Can I go Multiphase shield instead of Gravi Scaner?
I should go 3 Heat sinks?
And can I go EMP Missiles? With Katana I would fire the missiles, get their shields and then finish their hull with assault rail.

Yes, you can. I use Gravi Scanner to help the team to move from beacon to beacon for example, or to scape from enemies. But you can play without it.
-
You can put 2 and be perfectly fine, but if you want to feel like a Gunship overdriving all the time 3 Heatsinks is very fun. I use it on Katana S

I always use EMP missiles precisely because I use Rails so they help me taking down the shield much faster.
> Flying Command
> Not using silence missiles
I don’t think I’ve ever used a Command without those missiles. They are just so damned handy.
Could we see a Templar AE build please? Possibly one with an emphasis in heavy gunship role
Nobody asks me for JLRF builds ;-;
Nobody asks me for JLRF builds ;-;
Do you even have a thread?
I don’t need one. Sometimes I make threads for specific ships and others add their own ship builds. That’s how it is supposed to be for easier access to those who want to know. It’s harder to find specific ships in personal threads.
It’s also harder to ask someone personally for a build. So, uhhh
Yea and residente’s builds have been really helpful for me to develop. LRFs have been a pain for me to level
Blindshock what is your IGN? I wanna 1v1 you in JLRF gunny-style.

There’s not much you can do with Templar AE because of it’s rank. With Ira Deus you will have a better time but this is what I would do if I wanted to play Templar AE as a heavy gunship.

I chose Coil Mortar because it helps a lot against frigballs, but I honestly think any weapon you like will do the job here, after all you have 6 weapon turrets.
Verniers to have a better rotation that will be needed when enemy interceptors come close.
Acc Coils because Coil Mortar’s projectile speed is pretty low. If you can deal with it I’d suggest you an Emergency Barrier or some energy regeneration.
For the shield slots I’d go with the classic resistances. You could put directly raw shield and use the Multiphase to protect you from attacks.
Cor the CPU it would depend on your weapon, but since you only have 1 and the Templar AE is so weak in terms of hull and shield I’d go with weapon range just to shot from a safer spot.
For Active Modules use defensive ones. Shied regen and resistances to survive interceptor or other LRF attacks and the Scattering Field also for defensive purposes.
Here is my build for the Templar AE.
Ship Modifiers:
Engine - Shared Cooler (Can you get it in Tier 3? I haven’t played it in a long time); if not get the Vernier Engines
Capacitor - Pulse Discharger or Emergency Barrier for Offensive or Defensive respectively. I’d use the Pulse Discharger.
Shield - Same as Residente’s
CPU - Infrared Scanner
Modules:
Same as Residente’s
Weapon:
Heavy Blaster w/ the ammo that increases damage but with a drawback of decreased range
Why?:
It maximizes the offensive abilities of the JLRF enabling you to absolutely shred unsuspecting frigates and decimate fighters and interceptors. You can only do this if you know exactly what to do.
The EM Field will allow you to get close thus negating the need for an Electronic Guidance in the CPU slot and instead using an Infrared Scanner to further maximize damage output. This also goes along with the additional critical damage bonus the Templar AE gets as a ship bonus. The Multipurpose modules are self explanatory. The Shared Cooler will allow you to keep moving from target to target for as long as possible.
You want to move at max speed hidden behind the enemy’s view if possible. Then you want to cloak and guide yourself beneath your enemy only using your mouse cursor. Do not lock on to your enemy or that will alert the enemy that someone is about to attack. Choose a target who you can reach who is at the side of back of the group. Wait until your enemy is preoccupied with one of your allies or until your enemy is shooting somewhere. Then attack from behind and beneath if possible.
I should post a video about this.

Don’t forget to mention that the special module is basically airbrakes! Because if you try to slow down any other way, you’ll break cloak.

Yes. What he said. Although I only do that on a stationary target like an LRF in scope. I don’t want to give my cloaked position way too much.
Is it better to use LRFs are heavy gunships or campers? Do some do this better than others and what makes a ship good at being either?

Depends on the matches. If you can find a spot away from the main action to hide behind, lob Torpedoes at enemy lines and use your weapons/missiles with caution. If you don’t care, just go full Hv Gunship and storm the front.
I’ve used my Ira Deus as a mix of both, actually.
I simply find a hiding spot away from enemy LoS and path and kept friendlies under my guns range whilst lobbing Torpedoes everywhere. Plenty assists and kills, enough for Maniac medals before you’re noticed and viciously destroyed.

Depends entirely on what you like better. I, personally, am bollocks at using the disintegrator and think that the guided torp is amazingly situational (and probably better when used near the second line, anyways). So I use them as heavy gunships.
Builds for heavy gunships will usually include standard tank on shield and hull slots, and extra mobility on engine. This is the kind you’ll probably want verniers on. Capacitor slots go first to energy stability and then to extra damage. CPU can be changed up a bit depending on what weapon, but probably more crit and range. Active modules, you’ll want two multipurpose for whatever tank you’re using - hull for empire, shield for Jericho. I personally use the other two as tachyon and IR pulsar, but whatever floats your boat, there.
Builds for campers will look a lot different. Standard tank will still be on on shield and hull slots, but instead of the verniers, you can usually just throw on auxiliary generators, but you might want to look into catalyst injectors if you’d be energy stable and have faster average speed than you would with just auxiliary generators. Capacitors can go in more or less any direction, but shield regen is a bit sketchy. CPU is whatever, really - I’m sure proton wall would help in the event of a sudden ECM, but anything else is eh. Weapon range might be a good thing to invest in if you still want to use main weapons. Active modules, you might want two multipurpose, but you can get away with just one. EM scattering is practically a must. Tachyon and overcharge are both great - you might want both, but it’s really up to you. Missiles are almost definitely going to be minelayers, since that’s the best protection against interceptors and such.
I’ll leave it to Residente to actually provide examples.
Reverse Thruster is ok to use now since it got nerfed. It’s no longer unfair.
I use EM, Shield Booster, MPSA, and RT on my gunny style JLRFs
