Reputation: Grinding coming to a snail-like crawl

Haven’t seen a topic on the new-patch and Rep yet.

Last week, grinding for reputation was manageable (1000 generally). People complained about that (Loyalty too), but I guess we just managed.

Now it’s downright ridiculous. 800 Reputation for a match? 1400 if you’re lucky? Usually 500 or 300? I’m using a License, so those numbers are of course higher than what “non-Licensed” Pilots are getting.

I’m not even Rank 8 in any race yet (started the week it was announced for Mac). At this point, you have to spend most of your waking moments playing to hit T4 or T5. I’m not doing that.

I truly loved the game before the last two or three patches. One of my favorite things about Star Conflict was that leveling up didn’t truly feel like leveing up; you just had fun. In games like Pokemon, you had to consciously think of leveling to get stronger. Previously that was not the case in Star Conflict; you just played, and eventually you got there (without spending ridiculous amounts of time on it). Now, I’m more concerned with leveling up than actually doing any objectives, just to keep up with all the T4 players with all Purples or Blue modules.

tl;dr : As of this week’s patch reputation makes leveling up any Race come to a slow, snail-like crawl ; giving players that already are in completely-outfitted T4 ships (you know what I’m hinting at.) an advantage. On top of that, is the ironically mismatched"matchmaking system" (where we clearly told you that we did not want intermingling tiers fighting each other via in-game Poll).

I was about to drop some money on this game, but that was before all of these negative changes (via last three patches) happened.

Yeah, I’m really wondering what the office situation was like on this one

Mismatched ships - check

Mismatched gear/mods - check

Mismatch implants -  check

Halt progression in half - check

Abandoning the entire tier system which this game seems to be focused on is insane.

If you want to add the mismatching of everything, add a game mode, don’t change the entire game.

I think this is bugged for T1-T3? I got 4k rep from T4 winning, and 2k from T4 losing after patch, but about 2xx for T2.

I enjoy using my T2 ship. They are nice looking, fun to drive and have enough buttons to keep me satisfied.

The situation now is, that if I use them, the “reputation” I am gaining is so minor that I have no progression towards unlocking the factions. If I want to gain reputation, I need to use the less fun, not so well equipped T3 ships I own.

I don’t see what the benefit is for the game to be in this state. Why picking the part of this game that is more fun for me results in not being able to unlock parts of this game I have not yet experienced.

ofcourse maybe the T3 ships will become more fun once I kit them properly. I certainly have my eye on a number of fun modules to put on my fighter and I’ve been promised a sweet deal on two pairs of assault plasma cannons. But with credit gains being as they are and ship prices going up with every patch, kitting my T3 ships “to enjoyment levels” (blue gear unattainable nonetheless) delays progression towards level 9 ships and tier-4 considerably.

Answers, anyone?

too many thing is broken now last 3 weeks get worse and worse and no body say they will fix. Maybe this game is lost.

They’ve fixed lots of things, but they have also tried many new things that broke the system. Betar is Beta as someone who likes to criticize internet games would say (misspelling intentional). Personally I would wait for final release of this game before judging it too hard.

Most games these days are beta, really just polite way of saying we haven’t done everything we want but you can play. But if you charge $ (and they do) then destroying gameplay/rewards is not acceptable.

Beta is not an excuse if you charge $.

the moment the first euro changes hands the developers lose all beta privileges.

ofc you can still have the game “in development” and be non beta. That’s a good thing.

For max reputation gain, you must fight in higher tier ships. For example: if you have Rank 9 in Empire you must use a rank 9+ ship to get large values for your reputation gain.

I experimented with this by taking a T2 ship and grinding rep for Empire (where I am rank 10). I got 200 reputation.

I took the same T2 ship and switched grind to Jericho (where I am rank 6). I got 2000 reputation.

Fly a level of ship appropriate for your current faction rank to get the most out of each battle.

Thanks for the explanation, making sense now.

The level of ship that is appropriate for my faction rank is a decision that is exclusively mine.

You can fly whatever rank ship you like. But it is up to the developers how much reputation gain you get.

That’s a different issue. I disagree with their decision.

Why? So players with full blue/purple setup a can farm new players? Along with mm system, this is meant to be another deterrent to push vets into higher tiers

this is only so that farming blue would stop being feasible.

You want to pimp? Either farm for months or buy this gold mod, it’s that easy!

Why? So players with full blue/purple setup a can farm new players? Along with mm system, this is meant to be another deterrent to push vets into higher tiers

You’ve got it backwards.  The vets are already waiting at higher tiers with their max levels from a totally easier grind, their unobtainable and overpowered modules, and teir T4.2 ships ready to roll.  The problem is that nobody wants to play on such unfair footing, so nobody played at the higher tiers.

This patch is meant to push the FOOD to the higher tiers so the vets have some fresh meat.

Only a few corps had such gear, I am a rank 11 player with 4 mk1/2 fit tier 4 rank 10 ships, doesn’t mean I get Rolf-stomped at tier 4. And I can agree pushing players to higher tiers with higher repair costs can seem unfair, but it is better than full purple players at tier 2 dominating.

I disagree with their decision because I enjoy flying T2 and because I feel I am being pushed now into a higher Tier that I enjoy less if I want to have future access to game features. Because I need to prepare said access now through reputation farming.

Essentially I am being given a choice: Either I pursue playing this game in the manner that is more convenient and fun for me OR I am given future T4 access. For being given future T4 access, I have to pay by playing this game “the way the developers want the game to be played”, which is to me a less fun way to play.

But here’s the thing - shouldn’t the developers make T4 more accessible for me? If there’s a real issue with not enough players living in that sweet T4 world, why isn’t there an effort from the company to make sure the current players gain access?

I resent having to make such a choice because I feel it is unfair to me as a player. I got them T2 ships and fitted them with blue gear because I found them to be fun and exciting, not because I felt they are a convenient stepping stone to higher tech. I definitely expect to get the most out of my investment.

As for tier2 blue gear. It’s a lot easier to attain than tier3 blue gear. Even with this new system, it’s still in the attainable realm (I only have level 6 in 3 factions atm, btw. the rest have 4-5).

I don’t believe people refuse to play tier4 because it is less fun due to new guys having to fly mk1 modules VS a full blue/purple setup.  I’ve played VS t4 teams on my T3 interceptor with a couple of buddies on teamspeak and we’ve had a pretty fun time.

I do think there’s a real problem with not enough people playing it and tier 4 ships gathering dust in hangars because of it. Letting some tier3 mix into tier4 is a good thing.

There are two issue at this moment that keep people from tier 4. I think the most major one is waiting to launch time. Since there are not a lot of people who play tier 4 the waiting time when you press launch are considerable. So a new guy getting his tiger presses launch and has to wait 10 min and the 3rd time this happens in a row he says “f_ck” this and goes back to play tier2/3. When another guy comes along with his brand new tiger he still has the 10 min waiting time because the previous 10 guys didn’t start playing tier4.

Another issue that keeps people from tier4 is the grind factor. People have to get lots of credits for a tier4 ship and half way through they kinda think they are not gonna manage getting a full roster to play with so they might as well get another tier2/3 ship that they can get more out of. Take me for instance I can save credits for the tiger, it’s gonna take me a month of playing or I can jump faction and go buy the dwarf-2 and get access to a whole new play style with the microwarp and it’s gonna cost me only a week of playing.

P.S.

I understand there’s a 900 warehouse space limit at the moment. I’d personally like to see a pay only option to extend that space limit.

Not really, no. The game is incomplete. If you are willing to pay for an incomplete game without realizing what you are getting into, that is YOUR problem, not the dev’s problem. It is in beta, and holds the right of being called a beta. If you don’t trust it, don’t pay for it. It isn’t that hard :stuck_out_tongue: But this game has a lot of potential for change, so nonetheless, wait and see. And don’t pay for it till it is officially minted as a fully finished product (unless your trusting or have money to spend and don’t care or whatever).

I actually do want to spend some money on this game.
