Remove The 700 M/S Speed Limit.

…the server runs as 30fps.

What does it even mean?

I dare you to shoot at any ship if the speed limit is lifted. Hitting 700m/s fighters is already stupid. Some ships would be even faster than missiles and projectiles.

I hit ships in warp ez. And cruising ships are by far the easiest to hit. They generally don’t turn much so it makes that pretty easy.

What does it even mean?

It means that the server is doing calculations at n frame per second.

Basically. it keeps track of where every ship is, who shot who, who got hit, etc every frame.

So each 0,03333 second it has to do a massive amount of calulations, prediction, checks, (raycast checks “if it does that”. physics checks etc). and so on. before the next frame comes along.

But the server is most likely not doing all this each frame.

Considering that clients can play with and vary with hunders of ms in latency (ping) in differance. some things might need more frames so it can predict things.

Do not confuse the server fps with, let say client fps. the stuff you see on your client.

This verry technical stuff and and without having more info on how the engine works it becomes mostly a guessing game.

Lol

Yes it is called server tick

Yes. or server fps. :stuck_out_tongue:
They both mean the same.
In some games its refered to as server fps and in other games server ticks.

Its what wiki refers to it ))) i have never heard server fps before

So why did you guess the tick is 1/30th of a second (and nope, it’s different here)?

@ Katovskiy first dedicated server that pops into my mind is “ArmA”… There server fps is commenly used, i know other use it too.

@ niripas , its just a wild guess. i said it before in one of my posts. dont know that the server tick/fps is.

The ticks vary based on how much load the server is under. if it gets to low it becomes a issue.

But i have no idea what the ticks on the server(s) are. so i just took the number 30 since its not a unrealistic number.

Anyway, i have a hard time beliving that the speed limit it a engine limiation, seen that objects can do well above 700ms and still do hit detection etc,

Where I’m from, FPS stands for frames per second and had to do with image rendering. Not sure about you

Tick rate is the server’s state update/packet frequency

They’re not the same

A frame does not need to be something visual.
When speaking about frames on a server. its more about the collection of data that gets simulated in the server backend…

Ever heard about renderfarms ? Its just a collection of servers working on rendering a frame/ “picture” or several frames for animation…
Its a good example of how a frame does not need to be presented virsual where the data is handled.

I dont like to use the word just “server tick”. because it has no meaning imo.
Also the name ticks  just makes me think of this and this

In a computer. everything is a tick. each time the cpu does a new cycle its a tick

When not refering to FPS i like to use UPS, (updates per second)
So in a sense. yeah they are kind of refering to the same thing.  (how fast/slow is the server working/handling the data.)
