Remember the good old times

Some screenshots from old days when we didn’t need to grind like we do now, playing PvP or PvE was enough.

![:(:](<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/(.png “:(:”) so true, so sad : (((

You know, people say this and that were better in “the good ol’ days”, but its just because people remember the good things only, everything that was bad was forgotten, the game wasn’t all glitz and glamour in the past, monocrystals were much harder to get, and those modules were just upgrade kits that were random and most of the time not very useful, ships used to be much harder to craft for parts, but now we have events every once in a while that help out a lot, and OS was worse than it is now, defiler wings are easier to assemble and it takes less time to be done.

hm; maybe for some parts, but reconises that all  loots miss a little of surprises, a bit tasteless…

Those that are romanticizing the past make themselves feel bad about the present.

UGH I remember the sheer elation I felt when I found a full Mk4 item after battle. Dayum that was nice. I now wish they had kept the upgrade kits in PvP/PvE loot because the “just credits and nothing else” loot is miserable.

Of course in past: more game types, more players, better rewards for victories, more Tiers consequently no unnecessary low-rank ship bonuses,

no twisted modules that have less cooldown than module duration, should I go on???

How can I refuse since you are suddenly so polite?

No Focusing laser + Magnetic disruptor, no Cutter (aka other cov ops) that have 7sec immunity to almost all damage types,

No ECM that have 11km module range that has longer duration then reload time, no ONE ships that can suck all energy from all enemy ships in 4kn radius.

No Taikin that can reload Doomsday missiles in 3sec and reload Inhibitor Crystal in 12sec …

so many broken things here…really I wonder who is the main developer?

Stevie Wonder perhaps?

  • No penalty on stacking passive modules
  • No dmg penalties on Horizons
  • No tier overlapping equipment, everything is locked into 3 ranks in a tier
  • Painfully slow vertical progression
  • Implants locked behind faction ranks
  • Even slower loyalty progression, getting past mk2 equipment was a nightmare
  • Craft Doomsday missiles and Drones were equipable on T1 ships
  • Stack Missile pylons letting you spam Doomsdays like small missiles with a 30-second cartridge
  • Nukes on every single ships
  • Face nuking (nukes were flying forward and could have been detonated instantly like torpedos into an obstacle)
  • Face torping (EM-torps have no arming timer)
  • 8KM Beam LRFs suppressing stuff harder than focusing lasers
  • 5km+ Ion beams with 120 resistance ignore
  • 13-1 resets all cooldowns in 5 assists, including missiles
  • lololo-press one turn Key interceptors
  • 3x engine interceptors/fighters with higher strafe acceleration than initially released Tharga
  • 25000m/s Massdrivers at 5-6km range
  • 7km Destructor beam with AOE dmg cloud, which transformed into someone hit burn all energy in AOE beam
  • Ridiculous energy drain from ECM
  • Interceptors completely ignoring slows with 6 second 8-2 implants
  • 1-2 implant making crit hits do LESS dmg than non critical hits
  • Singularity 4 shooting em tanked guards
  • White dmg scatterguns on CovOps
  • Flux Phaser 3 shooting fighters
  • 12 000 dmg 3x Charged Gauss in T3
  • Initial phaser
  • Locked tiers where different ranks within a tier had more power difference than current joined ranks
  • 3x Adaptive federation guards with ridiculous regen
  • 12v12 Team battles with 2 kills in total, due to uber healing and tanking
  • t4 games giving you negative income with 1 death
  • Interceptors capable of one-shot ramming Jerico frigates
  • Pulse lasers with 12 second overheat time on covops
  • Reverse thrusters + perma cloak, shorter cd, no resist debuffs on activation, almost instant warp
  • less maps
  • ridiculously slow progress towards craft ships
  • every team content dominated by fed gunships with singularities
  • Dart and Gargoyle
  • Better players with 40 frags in a Combat recon in a gunships
  • 3x holograms on recons
  • unremovable spy drones by collision
  • 15k shield drain on recons
  • much higher base projectile speed on disintegrators
  • survival mode
  • less maps
  • 10x harder PvE
  • much longer PvE maps with less credit returns
  • Cruise engines everywhere
  • No diminishing returns on consecutive control effects
  • 4000 auras on Guards
  • auto-charging shrapnel cannon
  • 3 point kills on the respawn
  • incremental respawn timer on consecutive deaths
  • ELO

…and more…

and all of that before even Destroyers were released, oh and don’t even get me started on a matchmaker in the “good old days”

While most of those things were not present in the same time, they were continuously overlapping each other in the majority

Yet, all of these things were kinda better than present. Number of autoaim modules were very limited, ships were sticking to their role, no ridiculous damage without effort.
Maybe T3 pre 0.9. That was frikken laser show than actual battle. 6km base range lasers did damage at level of average laser pointer, but 5km slow barrel heavy lasers actually hurt.

hardly, they would be “better” in current realities, but in realities of that time they had as much or more influence on the game than current imbas are.

Good old dayS!

@kosty  I loved the auto charge shrapnel on tacklers! I’d love to have a modern, balanced version of that in the game! ![:)](<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/001j.png “:)”)

You forgot one :

Kinetic Weapon Bonus on Crusader S with Shrapnel Cannon V1.

That thing was One shoting everything in 2km range.

Like I did not include Bots in a PvP match, or Aliens dropping into PvP games

monocrystals were much harder to get

to be honest, while that is true, monocrystals were introduced to make a “new rare resource” for the new ships back then, and this was just continued. every time something got “eased up” in the economy, new rare items were added at the end of the line. so while it feels like, this has gotten better, actually the whole concept of introducing new rares and deprecating old rares by increasing the drops is just a trick, that has a huge impact on the image of the game, as any game working like this is quickly seen as “B-grade” and cheap.

if monocrystals were still the main resource to craft all kinds of ships, new or old, i would agree, that it has become more accessible. but in reality, it just got replaced by new carrots.

there were always events that helped out. only gotcha is, you had to have your basic gear and active playtime to make use of them. that has not changed much, but probably your reception of it changed, since you already geared up by now.

not sure, os is quite how it was in the beta, except the drops are worse. but at least the lovelessly placed alien spawns were toned down, and the map has a bit more exploration feel.

sure. because feeling bad about the present is only the result of forgetting that it was just as bad all along.

sure, because intentionally designed imba ships are much less painful by now than balance issues or bugs of the past, before the tharga era, where this madness began.

Ho god.

Why did you have to remember me this…

yeah, but it lasted for half a year and was over. None of the new ships is bat xxxx crazy, and yes I am tired of NY18, and it is getting nerfed soon, but, to me, the only 2 things that get on my nerve in a balance are NY18 and Focusing laser max range, well Cutter’s base dmg is the 3rd thing, everything else is just iterative flavors of the half a year, if you look at them individually. I may not like the meta with everything dying faster and more chaos, but outside of these 3 things, everything else is more or less “balanced” in the current reality and fits, but that is just my personal preference.

Progression wise, at least right now, I find it just fine, monos are used for everything and it’s raining monos, and all the latest toys coming out without new resource, and recycle Electrum, which became a monos 2.0, plus i can just buy stuff from the store or trade and save bunch of my time grinding.

I don’t wanna say now is good or better, it just “Ol’ Times” had plenty of xxxx and rarely had short windows when everything (progression, balance, misc stuff) was all more or less fine in the same time.

I can make a just as long list of good things about those days, it just does not mean it was better, well except Social part of the game, that was definitely better.

If they could bring back good old “Heavy Weapons” that would be nice.
