Reaper "Bastion Shield"

Okay so I just recently finished grinding the hell out of those missions and got my Bastion shield. I am thoroughly disappointed. Not only does it only last 5 measly seconds, but it also only absorbs the damage of a single damn disintegrator shot. The damage resistance buff is a nice counter to not having a phase shield, but the functionality is still very low. In the stream I remember it scaling with your main weapon and being actually useful. This would make the module acceptable, but there is still much to dislike.

I suggest that the shield volume of the shield scale with your weapon like before, and also last for significantly longer. A shield that you must manually maintain using your energy would be okay, and would make the module much more usable.

I suggest the module be like the following:

Shield charge: 20,000 pts. (Scales)

Active time: 15 s.

Damage resistance increase: 40 pts.

Energy consumption: 500 en.

Recharge: 20 s.

Shield radius: 750m

This would mean the shield would be able to take more damage, and also be able to stay up to take minor damage for longer. There would be 5 seconds between the shield going down and being able to be used again simply for balance reasons. Given that explosives and piercing weapons bypass the shield this would make it acceptable.

So just how would you suggest it scales? Should it use some kind of formula incorporating your weapons DPS to calculate the capacity or simply increase with weapon rank?

Well it should scale however it did in the stream. Or like how special modules “Guided Torpedo”, “Plasma Web” and “Disintegrator” all scale with the main weapon.

20 seconds recharge? Nope. That means you can use it every 5 seconds (You use it, the countdown starts, but you still have the shield for 15 seconds, so when it expires you just have to wait 5 seconds to use it again)

 

40 seconds recharge seems more reasonable to me, considering the upgrade.

40 seconds would make it utterly pointless. I expected this module to be continuous use like the phase shield. Just with more vulnerabilities. Keep in mind that a single ship can take the current bastion shield down in a matter of 3-4 seconds.

Also keep in mind that it is a big bubble and ships can easily enter it to avoid it.

I was talking about your improved version with 20k shield points. Anyway, those 40 seconds would become 25 in reality. 

Don’t forget, that it fill your shields if not used(or?). So making it 20k+ is huge.

I do actually find it good as it is, the way you propose it would probably make it kinda broken, considering the low cooldown it can be a lifesaver for one of your teammates often enough, and a resistance increase of 40 to all your resistance continously + 13k HP all 18 seconds for 5 seconds, which allows you to use the regen shield as well under it, makes you regenerate a lot of shield. Combined all in all it is a great module as it is right now.

It does not restore shields like the “Regenerating Shield” active module. It is simply a bubble shield to absorb damage.

Also the increased resistances are not even a full counter to the phase shield module, where all resistances are reduced by 60 pts if I’m right. It only increases them by 40 pts. Swapping the shields does not remove the phase shield problem of reduced resistances.

Eh??? What do you mean by phase shield?

That of a guard? It’s selectable one-source resistance of 120 points.

To the bubble: Then one corpmate told me wrong things. If the bubble isn’t destroyed, then it recharge your shield by its (base?) amount.

 

All you need to do is hovering your mouse over the ship, Reaper, in ship tree while simultaneously pressing the “Alt” button.
