Realistic Shields

-Realistic shields : If shields were possible, they would not loose integrity due to incoming damage. Instead, they would just stress the shield generator, causing it to heat up rapidly. So instead of shield “durability” going -down-, shield “heat stress” should go -up-, until the shield generators overheat and are forced to shut down. This will change nothing in-game, but will simply make it more realistic.

Since shields aren’t possible, there is no way to proof that your method of shield operation is more ‘realistic’ than the current mechanics.

As far as you know. :3

There are magnetic fields that serve as shields against solar radiation.

There are magnetic fields that serve as shields against solar radiation.

But then you have to think about how it’s possible to reflect lasers with magnetic fields. Plus, then shields would probably have the best resistance against EM and worst against thermal, rather than what it is now.

Now that we are on the topic of realism, why can we see laser in space? And why does it have a maximum range.

Why do kinetic projectiles have maximum range? What is love? Baby don’t hurt me… Don’t hurt me no more…

Since shields aren’t possible, there is no way to proof that your method of shield operation is more ‘realistic’ than the current mechanics.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plasma_window just need scale it up. It lets laser fire go through tho, but if plasma stream would be thick enough, laser light should refract. Problem is as always energy usage, 20 kilowatts per inch. That “shield” is flat plane, but scientists proved that plasma reacts to magnetic fields, so maybe in future?

There is always hope…

Until there’s life, we can’t prove that some things are impossible.

There might be things we never thought about.

But yeah, I have to agree with you guys this suggestion can’t say what’s realistic and what’s not about something that don’t exist.

When the technology is advanced enough, it is indistinguible from magic.
