Every time I try a significant ship change, or get a new ship, I prefer a practice match instead. I once tried stab rails on an interceptor, took them off the after the match. Custom matches aren’t that great, since you can’t pick your target. Why not a mode where you pick your 1v1 target, and then just come one after the other. If I want to practice against fighters, the enemy will only be fighters. If it’s frigates, then it’s only frigates. Then it could be easier to practice with a LRF, or taking out a LRF. My thought is just a one at a time onslaught. You kill the target, you heal and rearm, and the next target comes. Then you don’t need a time limit or distractions.
Interesting idea…
Custom Battles.
Not quite. Custom battles are a bit different than what he is suggesting.

It’s the answers the devs will give you.
So if I want to try against a frigate, I first have to hope the other side picks a frigate, and I get left alone with the frigate without fighters or interceptors barreling down on me? If I’m trying for a frigate in an interceptor and another ship starts attacking me, I’ll skip the frigate and focus on life. How’s that genuine practice? The last time I tested a gun in a custom match, I got messages from another player wanting to join!
No, you get a friend to use one.
