Ramming Improvement

This is a bit random, but Gunships have the ability to improve the effect of their shield’s pulse discharge if they increase their shield capacity.

So why not make ramming mechanics operate in a similar way?

Suggestion:

Increase damage dealt through contact (ramming) proportional to the volume of armor on the ship.

+More armor = more inertia

+More damage dealt against rammed opponents

-More damage received from colliding with structures and rock

+Collision compensator still reduces received damage

-Slower acceleration

-Lower top speed

your logic works good, the point is that we talk about +100dmg for ramming in comparison of +3000dmg for pulse discharge.

(by applying a 30% increase for both)

I dont think the magnitude of the impact can be recognized in game.

Happy to discuss

What would be fun is a better collision system.

So if you run with a Frigate into an interceptor, the interceptor will be sent far far away.

Damage are enough for me, more = interceptor buff.

It would have to be a computational collision system. Remember how ramming worked back then? yeah that was too insane. Put the slow and heavy type could literally ram your opponent if you catch them off guard.

2 frigates jousting? Perfect

Bounce all those plasma arc covops away!

I know ramming should be based on hull… but this makes it quite unfair for Jeri ships. Unless somehow you can ram people using shields + J9 implant…

There are times I collide with objects and don’t even take damage.

Your logic is 100% sound.

The trouble is would the time investment be worth the number of players that would enjoy it?

Also, it would create a larger desparity between skilled & unskilled players.

In short, how many people would stop playing because they have to learn to have more fun in the game…

Why does Mothership get his own bullet point?

Long story. Short version: He hates polls.

Bounce all those plasma arc covops away!

That.

Let’s play flippers!

No more need to flee against Covert ops! Launch them into a rock.  :00555:

That was kinda my thought. Although, consider that frigates already have more hitpoints (armor) than their smaller counterparts, so that alone gives them an advantage when colliding with another player.

Also keep in mind that if a player was going to try to build a ramming frigate, he’d be better off going with a Federation Frigate than an Empire one, simply because you would need all the speed and acceleration bonuses you can throw on to offset the weight of the armor. I doubt a 24m/s Styx will be able to ram anything very effectively.

We need a mode called.

“Hunker down” where you sacrifice your sheild to beef up your armor and you slow down taking a 50% speed penalty while able to tank approx 35% more damage.

That would be the special ability of the non-existent Empire Guard Frigate.

I really think weight of armor should be considered. Jericho ships should not be SLOWER than heavliy armored Empire ships. It does not really make any sense. Sheilds dont have weight, in reality the jericho ships should be near on par with federation.

You need machinery and generators to run shields. It makes sense.

Not really. Jericho ships are unmanned as well, they dont need life support systems at all, and they look like they are built for atmospheric deployment. I think they are the lightest of all the ships if you count raw weight.

One of the most annoying physics issues I’ve seen is with warping. I remember accidentaly warping into a swift in a zealot and it flew off and I blew up.

Just sayin.

I miss the days of being able to micro-ram the captain in my recon.

I’ve yet to see them nerf the warp-gate ram, fortunately.

You still can micro-warp kill

:fed013: Oh… OH! I hit a Jeri Guard last time I tried that, and he had the implant that absorbs collision damage on his shield and…

Wow. Do I feel silly.  :fed014: I thought it’d been nerfed.

Depending on ship shape and hull strength, ramming should do much more damage, as to be used as a last-ditch method of taking down a target. A ship like the Reaper, Razor, Sai or Sawtooth would do heaps of damage because of their “spears” that they have on the fronts of their ships. Other ships like the Raptor and essentially all other flat ships would do very little ramming damage unless warping. Warping ships should destroy any ship that they hit immediately, as they are moving much faster than any other munition and also carry much more destructive force.
