Progression, unlocking, and you

This thread is intended to get some feedback as to how important progression (ie: the act of unlocking / leveling up ships) is to you.

Try to answer honestly, and provide any information you feel is useful. I’ve given sample answers in the questions to help guide where your vote should go.

I like the current system. I love it. I just think it takes EONS to unlock anything of good for your ships. It really shouldn’t take this long to get to T3.

The current system is good.

But some things very closely linked to it are not.

like ship tree…which REALLY needs to get fixed.

Progression/Unlocking things is awesome - I just wish it was done in a slightly different way.

For example:

I have no interest in a lot of ships yet I have to buy them in order to fly others. This makes no sense to me. If this wasn’t the case, less people would complain about the ship prices. Just let us buy the ships we have the reputation for, and put ships in a more logical order in the ‘trees’.

I’d like to see MORE levelling of ships. Some people will scream and shout about having to unlock module slots on specific ships but I love it. It gives you a sense of satisfaction and achievement when you fly specific ships a fair bit. It makes putting focus on specific ships a lot more rewarding.

This is also a better way of easing into tiers than the current ranks are. Why not just use the same ships but have it get stronger / more slots as you fly it more often? That way - players progress into higher segments of each tier as they gain experience from playing, not arbitrarily from buying a ship further down in the tree which isn’t any reflection of their skill or experience in that tier.

Essentially by this suggestion, all (as example) T2 ships would start as ‘rank 4’ in terms of their strength and progress to a rank 6 equivalent strength as many synergy levels are gained. It will feel incredibly rewarded to use your ships this way.

Similar, I would love to see additional ‘ship bonuses’ unlock as you go up. A ship reaching maximum level should acquire the unique/ultimate passive bonus to the ship itself - giving players a real sense of achievement.

Some players will cry that they just want the exact same as everyone else from the start but those people have to remember that this isn’t Call of Duty or Counterstrike. This game is meant to have a sense of progression and is based on TEAMPLAY, not individual 1v1 fights. The fact you have a 20% bonus to something is very nice at a personal level but isn’t going to make or break the match for your team as a whole.

Anyway just my ramblings and musings.

agreed with ET (hehe).

i bought katana just to wait till i have 3.5M creds for katana-S… and with Kris its the same.

It would also make “old” players in those tiers insanely OP in comparison to “new” players.

Right now they got same slot, biggest difference is mk1 vs mk3 and skill. then it will be slots, mk1 vs mk3, and skill.

In SC progression unlocks you!

The most and annoying grind were the loyalty lvls 7,8,9. After that it felt easier (guess due to more contracts.)

Would really help to give us the ships without equiptment, this is a terrible grind, especially since I know that I will replace them with MKII to Mk III instantly.

If the match-making system did its work - it would try to split people by ship ranks as much as possible, which helps easing people through the tiers as they progress.

They don’t have the same slots now either, each ‘rank’ provides some additional slots, especially at early ranks/tiers.

Yup, the ship prices still need  to get fixed no matter how many people tell them it is a terrible system

correct, but someone can ship R4/5 and get R6 instantly and have the same ship slots.

Not to mention having to grind 13 synergy levels with just 2 active slots for a bit? … I wouldn’t even bother I think o.O

you are correct that the current system leaves much to be desired. But I personally don’t think your system would fix it.

I don’t like the ship tree right now, for example: Hawk needs a way to unlock Hawk-Eye too.

Or the Silent Fox needs a way to unlock Wolf. In my opinion the Federation ship tree is now very unbalanced

every ship tree is broken, and none are getting fixed right now apparently…

Don’t worry, issue has been raised half a hundred times already, maybe it’s somewhere in their backlog…maybe…

I kind of like the grind

I don’t really see it as a grind but as things that unlock as a reward for playing my ships a lot  Right now, flying any ships is kind of meh - it doesn’t really provide any long-term benefits.

I can see why some hate it, it’s just personal preference

Unless they fix this game, I don’t see that happening…

And I also don’t see the fix happening funnily enough.

Loyalty has become the least of my problems, the longer I play without a license. It’s a constant flow compared to reputation, and the daily login bonus plus loyalty loot definitely help. I agree, though, the loyalty grind is kinda painful until you reach somewhere around Rank 6 or Rank 7 in any sub-faction.

Buying new ships is another thing entirely. I’m glad I didn’t have to get the Acid Hydra when Sector Conquest kicked in, but man, oh man, the ship prerequisites. The mere fact that you have to get preceding ships every time AND the costs of said preceding ships kinda forces me to concentrate on single ship/class lines.

Credits are easy enough to come by as it is now. I find it hard to spend them faster than they come in.

I rarely queue solo though, I think I’ve tried that like, once. Ever. Just chain-queue with a half decent group and it’s pretty easy to make credits.

I have reached the point where I must get all loyalties from 9 to 12…it’s a horrible grind since 60% of my contracts are 1 day cooldowns! Its Bloody annoying. They really need to fix contracts so I dont run out of contracts after 2 matches!

I usually win half the match by myself…(combat recon/detonation anyway) so group is not the problem, it’s just i have a lot of places to spend cerdits at.
