Problems with Matchmaking.

I agree remove SR, but give some indication, “a medal” to the player so he knows if MM is ranking his current status as “pro” (giving him harder matches) or “in decline” (giving him easier matches).

Kind of like in Starcraft2, the matchmaker divides all people into “bronze”, “silver”, “gold”, “platinum” and so on categories according on how they are playing. Even as in that system good players are “penalized” by only giving them matches against other people of around equal difficulty, it doesn’t feel bad as they get the bragging rights that “hey, at least I’m playing in “platinum” group and not in “bronze” group”.

I don’t see how current matchmaker gives the player the bragging rights. Just adds the difficulty without giving (purely esthetical) reward to make him feel good about the fact that he is being given harder games.

Simple trick to fool players.

W/L it cannot be, or it should be W/L e.g. from last 30 days or something: it would take long for W/L ratio to drop if player has played over 5000 games…

SR is not such indicator, it just indicates “I’m afraid to die in the game”

To borrow the StarCraft example, we could have something like this:

Tiers match by collating people of comparable ratings. Rating is defined by looking at your WLR across your last 30 (ranked) PvP matches. The game then puts you into brackets. Sample brackets given here:

Bronze - <0.8 WLR. Players with less than 30 games are automatically put into Bronze.

Silver - 0.8 - 1.1 WLR.

Gold - 1.1 - 1.3 WLR.

Platinum 1.4 - 1.6 WLR.

Diamond >1.6 WLR.

Matchmaking will allow no more than two shifts to establish a match - Silver and Bronze will never face a Diamond player, for example.

Squads are matched by the strongest player.

Matchmaking can further subdivide to try for accurate matches. For example, if a Gold player cannot find a match within 1 minute it will look at boundaries - a 1.15 Gold will be pushed toward matches involving ~1.1 Silver, for example.

Matchmaking would re-evaluate your WLR every 5-10 games to decide if you need to move brackets.

This. If your WLR is less than one the game should try to match you with people who are also below one. Likewise, as you start creeping up to 1.1 or 1.2 WLR, you should be matched with people who are also climbing.

This system would organically find people’s actual skill level - the more you win, the tougher your opposition. Far better than the current model, which is “oh, you won three games… xxxx you! Here’s a team of idiots who haven’t even plugged their mouse in!”

That also wouldn’t work because you’d still be carrying a portion of your team that does jack xxxx all during ALL matches they played on. And they somehow got extremely lucky and managed to find folks that carried them onwards.

There would still be random stuff that is not ideal, but that will occur in any matchmaking system we use.

More important, I feel, is how this WLR system would end the “squad issue.” Killsquads win a lot, so their WLR goes up, which in turn means their matchmaking stats push them higher and higher.

The only catch is that people might deliberately tank their WLR to allow for easy farming, and the Devs would need to be willing to look into accusations of WLR tanking and take action against it.

Nice thought with the W/L system but would work.

a) it’ll countless matches for the w/l to change when you have a lot of matches on your counter

b) players that are longer with this game have sometimes a w/l of 2 and higher (because they played before MM decided to keep players at 1.0) they are punished for life

MM punishes you already when you 2 or three matches in a row and put you up higher in the queue

They can keep SR using for MM but some other value should be added like efficiency compared to others in your on team to pilot stats…

No no, the WLR works on the 30 matches as I said. The ratios I gave are not ideal, but the system could be set up to work purely on the last 30 matches, recounting every 5-10 games.

the problem as always will be the even more divided population. A full squad of diamond players would wait about 30 mins and since there will be none to fight they would prob be pitted against bronze for example.

Also, as someone stated, ppl can get to 1,1, 1,2 very easily by being carried by better players

And another category should be added: ESB, cause i think they are the only ones that the average w/l is above i dont know, 7.0

afaik no one has more than 5.X

hmmm, didnt know that.

hmmm, didnt know that.

The highest W/L I’ve seen is from ComradTroy, he has like 5.14 or smth like that.
